Humanitarian aid for Haiti. in World ·
Hannah Hill3 said:Sometimes, doing nothing is better than throwing money at people you can't actually help.
I'm sure many of you will jump down my throat immediately.
The issue is that this earthquake in Haiti doesn't mean everything was perfect before it hit.
It wasn't. Haiti has always been a mess. Now, the American Red Cross has suddenly remembered they can make a profit off it.

The truth is, you'll donate your hundred bucks and feel like you've saved the world. That money will never actually reach Haiti; in two months, we'll all be wondering what happened to them. Meanwhile, certain executives at the American Red Cross will just see bigger bonuses.
In two months, Haiti will return to exactly how it was before the quake, and all that "big-hearted" sympathy for the poor will vanish during summer vacation.
As for the money hitting the Haitian government's accounts? It’ll likely be diverted to pay off debts to the IMF and the World Bank.
People will still be starving, and absolutely nothing will change.

What you said is ugly, and the way you said it is worse. It’s pretty obvious you have no clue how the Red Cross actually operates. Instead of picking fights on a forum, it would be more human to at least pass along a donation hotline. You aren't going to die from $2.00.

And don't forget—we live in a seismically active zone too. This could happen here any day. If an earthquake hits on the scale of this one, no country on Earth can handle it alone with its own resources. That's why we should be thankful for solidary people and nations.

Sponges have been extinct for ages... which explains why Elaine had to think so hard about who was actually sponge-worthy. 😉
swiftbison25, there’s an entire thread dedicated to Mirena if you want to dig into it. After switching to the pill, she kept insisting it was the most reliable birth control out there. Honestly, given my age, I'll probably be moving off Yasmina soon too and making the jump to Mirena myself.

Hazelnut tea.

There’s also this herbal blend in tea bags called Tussimont; it worked wonders for my kids. It’s made in Austria, and I’ve spotted it for sale in pharmacies all over Chicago.

Bump on my labia: what could it be? in Women's Health ·
It sounds pretty ridiculous, but honestly, you’ll probably just end up with a pimple at the end of it all. 🙂
Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
I don't play games with this stuff... I've always taken my pills under a doctor's supervision, following whatever they tell me. After all, they spent years in med school while I didn't 😁

So if they say I need an IUD once I hit 40—then fine, that's the plan. I'm not exactly thrilled about it, but I'll deal.

I’m holding out hope they might change their minds and grant me some "extensions." 🙂 It’s not like being 40 makes you ancient, right? And honestly, I know people who hit 44 or 45 and were still stuck in that same boat...
Virginia and fungal infections in Women's Health ·
I’ve been on the pill for 21 years now—with the usual breaks for pregnancies and breastfeeding—and I’ve never dealt with yeast infections.

But man, pregnancy was a different story. Every single time I was pregnant, the yeast showed up, and it wasn't just the vaginal stuff; it hit my skin too. During my first pregnancy, it was like an uphill battle—no cream in the drugstore could touch it. It manifested as these angry, red, dry patches on my nipples and one massive patch right on my neck. But once I actually gave birth? The yeast vanished like it was never even there. 😉

Look, I’ve always been a bit of a skeptic when it comes to condoms; honestly, they didn't exactly inspire much confidence back in my younger days either. And now, after what feels like an eternity of marriage, if you actually manage to carve out the time and find the energy 🙂, the thought of worrying about whether a condom is actually reliable—or having the mood completely killed by the whole ordeal—would just ruin it for me. That kind of thing is for the kids; at my age, I'm already well past that stage of life 😢
Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
Hey, I have a question. I’m hitting 40 soon, and my doctor is suggesting I should probably phase out the birth control pills by then—though honestly, I’ve been taking Yaz for the last few years without any issues at all. He’s recommending I switch to an IUD instead.

I’m feeling a little anxious about it. I trust the pills 100%; I’ve been on them for 21 years now and haven't run into a single problem. I’ve had three kids, so I think I’ve checked that box enough times.

I don't smoke, I don't drink, my blood pressure is fine, I haven't gained weight, and I stay in pretty good shape... Does anyone know if age (and specifically how old) actually dictates when you have to stop hormone therapy? And how reliable is the transition to an IUD? Is there any chance I can stick with the pills for a few more years?

If anyone has dealt with this exact situation, please let me know what your experience was.
First Communion gift ideas? in Students & Teens ·
My kid has his First Communion this Sunday. Since he’s already got an illustrated Bible for teens and has a massive thing for comics—he practically devours everything from Marvel to Big Black—I figured we’d hit a home run with a Bible comic. It’s probably going to be one of those situations where I send him to the local library for a school book report and he ends up coming home with a handful of Bible comics instead. 🙂
Where can I get allergy testing done? in Health ·
Ethan Cook45 said:There’s a diagnostic lab called Labor Party. It's at 4 Bukovčev Square, phone is 212-555-0150.

Your best bet is just to call and ask. I think they're scheduling their teams right now, so those tests probably happen toward the end of September or maybe early October...

Good luck!

It's actually Bukovčev Square, not Vukovčev. 🙂

Maybe the correction doesn't matter much, but still—nobody wants to be wandering around lost because of a typo in the street name.🙂
Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
You shouldn't mess around with hormones; they aren't exactly something you can just pick up off a drugstore shelf without a prescription.
As for delaying things—there isn't a specific "period delay pill." It’s really just about using hormonal birth control, like >, to manipulate the cycle. You can speed up the onset by stopping the pills a few days early, or you can try to push it back slightly, though in my experience, delaying it usually just results in much lighter bleeding during the next actual period.

My humble suggestion? Go talk to a doctor. They spent years in med school and residency for a reason, after all...
