Venus in Fur — such an interesting erotic drama, especially since it's actually based on a play.

Truman — phenomenal Darin absolutely killed that role.

Both movies look pretty intriguing, I'll definitely add them to my list.
Speaking of American cinema, this
was the last one I checked out.
I'm guessing it served as some kind of inspiration for Money Heist, right?

Noah Roberts46 said:There’s a massive amount of them out of Los Angeles. For me, The Long Goodbye is easily one of my favorites. You can't talk about this without mentioning Heat either—specifically that intense driving sequence with Pacino following De Niro on the freeway during New Dawn Fades. 🙏

Mulholland Drive and The Big Lebowski belong on that list too. 😬

For me, Heat is first and foremost a visual masterpiece. You can really feel Mann's signature style throughout, but the cast is incredible, the plot holds up, and that tense soundtrack fits perfectly. It’s just a flawless movie.

It’s honestly great to see there are still fans out there for To Live and Die in L.A.—it's such an incredibly underrated movie, isn't it?

I mean, I totally agree—the issue with *La Confidential* is that it lacks that one iconic, legendary scene. That’s probably what cost it more awards, too. Personally, I think it’s a bit unfair that Kim Besinger was the only one walking away with an Oscar

Arthur Moore97 said:This film is just one iconic scene away from being an absolute masterpiece. It truly possesses all the essential elements of greatness: the narrative structure, the performances, the depth of the characters, and that unmistakable atmosphere. Personally, if I had to pick my favorite film set in Los Angeles, it would be this one—though, if I’m being honest, Chinatown still holds a very slight edge in my heart.

I’d definitely toss To Live and Die in L.A. onto that list too.

Speaking of great American films https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411272/—I've got some warm recommendations for you—and honestly, there’s a second part coming too.

There was some bug involved, but honestly, I can't quite remember how much it actually matters to the plot.

Yeah, and there's even a movie based on Red Dragon out now.

He was actually in Manhunter. I remember there being a trivia question at a local pub quiz once about who played the very first Lecter. If I hadn't seen Manhunter, I probably wouldn't have realized it was Brian Cox.

I already dropped the link for Manhunter, but I guess nobody was really listening to me😠
I'm just glad someone finally recognized the movie!👍

Here's a good one where Defoe does more of the narration (he doesn't pop up on screen quite as much):

In the one I linked, the plot features William Peterson—you know, the guy who played alongside Gil Griss from CSI. This was actually his first big movie role.

Terry Wilson5 said:Remind me—John Wayne, the absolute legend of Westerns, passed away from cancer, right? Apparently, they were filming something where there was some kind of radiation exposure... but John Wayne basically said he kept doing it because he just loved acting too much to stop, even if he ended up paying the ultimate price like so many others on that set.

Speaking of him, I really have to recommend the movie Trumbo. It covers the whole Hollywood Blacklist era back in the late '40s and early '50s—and interestingly enough, John Wayne actually stood behind it wholeheartedly.
