It’s got that in Rainbows muzika i melodija 7 Seconds vibe from Youssou N'Dour, but honestly, I'm not complaining.

How do you engineer the most massive historical crash of the dollar? Easy. You just blast out headlines in every single news outlet claiming the minimum wage hike is the biggest jump we've seen in fifty years. Back in June 2016, it was worth about $560—now? It’s barely hitting $240. Way to go, big guy!

Just look at how the state-run media, Sabah, is spinning it: "Millions are finally smiling."

Which version of Nathan Drake do you prefer?

It’s Nathan Fillion, obviously. No contest.

I caught the trailer for this at the local theater yesterday and, honestly? It looked pretty decent—well, aside from the tiny little detail that Tom Holland is a total miss for the role of Drake.

Actually, it was Berat Albayrak. Erdogan put him in charge of Energy and Natural Resources first, then later moved him over to run the Treasury and Finance Department. While he was running things, he basically gutted the central bank by bleeding out a massive chunk of the foreign exchange reserves. By the end of his tenure, about $128 billion had just vanished from the treasury—and then, suddenly, he resigned citing "health reasons" and completely disappeared from the public eye. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? ☕

He’s also famous for that one time—you know the one—where people were freaking out about the dollar losing its value and sliding straight into the gutter. His big defense? He basically told them to suck it up because it doesn't even matter. His logic was that since they aren't getting paid in foreign currency and don't have loans pegged to the dollar, they shouldn't be losing any sleep over it. As if that solves everything... right? 🙄

Even Erdogan went as far as saying he might actually appoint him as Secretary of State. Just kidding—but seriously, can you imagine? 😁

Taylor Walker9 said:Can you actually explain what Erdogan is doing wrong now that he wasn't doing back in 2012? Back then, the lira and the economy were holding steady. Did he just wake up old one day, or has this decline been a slow burn?

Look, I already told him—democracy is basically just a subway train; you ride it to get where you need to go, and you hop off at the right station when you arrive.
Back in the day, he was just playing the part pretty well. He had competent people running the major state agencies (some of them still do, I guess) and foreign investors were actually lining up to bring money in. But the act is over now. He’s lost his grip, gone rogue, and started making some seriously questionable calls. Especially with that whole scandal involving his missing son-in-law.

I don't think he'll live long enough to see the entire country collapse, but honestly? It wouldn't be a shock if the Republican Party loses the next election.

😁 Not really—just three years ago, the dollar was trading under 3 TRY. What I’m talking about, when it was sitting at 1.5, that was probably 7 or 8 years back. It’s just a slow, steady slide toward total disaster.

1 USD - 6.93 TRY 😲

I swear I remember back when I lived over there—or maybe I’m just dreaming—but $1 used to be less than 1.5 TRY. 🙄
What defines a "heavy" movie? in Movies ·
Henry Campbell5 said:Yeah, I guess I try to dismiss anything that just bores me or isn't my thing. But Lars isn't one of those.

But why? If we're just talking about personal taste, does that mean if I can't stand country music—and trust me, it's not my vibe—that it somehow lacks value? Not at all. I can totally tell when someone is actually talented even if their style isn't for me, versus when something is just straight-up garbage.
Personally, I think von Trier dances right on the edge of being incredibly pretentious and manipulative with his audience, but I get why some people dig it, so I usually just steer clear of debating his movies altogether.

BTW, I just remembered another movie that is absolutely brutal to sit through—Threads, that one about nuclear war and the aftermath.

For me, nothing hits harder than those movies that lean into gritty, realistic violence—stuff like Come and See.

Then you’ve got the ones that just leave you feeling emotionally drained and heavy, like *Lilya 4-ever* or *We Need To Talk About Kevin*.

Some are tough because they demand a lot from you mentally, but honestly? They're usually worth the effort—think *Winter Sleep* or *Pi*.

And then there are the movies that are just... difficult and, frankly, a bit tedious. Like anything by von Trier. I don't personally care for his style, though I can respect the craft he puts into it.

It’s actually kind of wild how easily I can be moved to tears by any little sentimental cliché now. Before I got pregnant, absolutely nothing touched me unless it was something hitting my own life directly—I was pretty much bulletproof. Now? Give me an Olympics medal ceremony or some cheesy romantic subplot in a Netflix series and I’m a total wreck. 😐 On the bright side, I was pleasantly surprised that I haven't dealt with any nausea at all.
The absolute worst part, though, has to be the unsolicited advice and the constant commentary on every single detail of this pregnancy. I’m living abroad in a country where superstition is practically a national pastime, and honestly, I don't even bother smiling politely at the nonsense anymore; I just flat-out tell them I don't believe in that kind of stupidity. It’s just exhausting how pregnancy becomes such a public spectacle—everyone thinks they have the right to chime in, touch my stomach, or comment on things that have zero business being their concern.

The war scenes are top-tier, really gripping, but that whole romantic subplot? Total cliché. Feels like drinking lukewarm lemonade.
School Reform: Thoughts? in Students & Teens ·
It’s not like the American education system doesn't need a serious overhaul or anything. It absolutely does—but we should probably start with how we hire teachers, the way they’re trained, and making sure there's actual continuous professional development instead of just... whatever currently exists. We also desperately need a standardized grading system. And I don't necessarily mean just slapping a number on everything, though if we do go the numerical route, it really needs to be rooted in actual written exams and projects with clear, objective rubrics.

As for the curriculum itself? Yeah, it needs some tweaking too, but honestly, things aren't quite the total catastrophe people seem to think they are.

If there's one thing that really gets me about a lot of the posts above, it's this mindset that education is just a tool to land a job or pick up specific technical skills you'll use at the office. That's only one tiny slice of what learning is supposed to do. Those "useless" details we were all forced to memorize back in school? They actually helped build critical thinking skills. Even pure rote memorization has its place in developing cognitive abilities—it’s not all wasted time.

A solid general culture is vital—and let's be real, for many people, it's what actually puts food on the table. Plus, someone with a broad, well-rounded education is much less likely to end up as a mindless political puppet without an ounce of their own opinion. It feels like that's becoming a bigger problem everywhere in the world lately.
Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
restlessheron51 said:I'm wondering if there's any kind of "old wives' tale" remedy to get my period started? I'm three days late, but I really don't think it's pregnancy—I actually just went to my OB-GYN for a routine checkup a few days ago, and since then, there was only one protected encounter. I did start a new diet recently, so maybe that's throwing things off? I haven't had any PMS symptoms, and I'm not feeling anything unusual right now either...

Just give it a few more days; starting a diet can definitely mess with your cycle. If you're looking for ways to speed things up, some people swear by Vitamin C, strong parsley tea, even certain herbal supplements, or fennel tea...

I can't help but think of Lucas's American Graffiti, then there's Linklater's Tape, Before Sunrise / Sunset, Waking Life, followed by Lumet's 12 Angry Men, and even Malle's My Dinner with Andre...

there's actually a whole lot going on in all those movies, 🤷
