Psoriasis [PLEASE READ FIRST POST!] in Health ·
So, here’s my report! I finally made it to the dermatologist this morning. Honestly, the consultation was a bit of a wash—the doctor couldn't give me a definitive answer on whether I actually have psoriasis or not, mainly because I don't check all the classic boxes. As it stands, my skin is just "only" thickened and tends to get incredibly itchy every once in a while. Following their advice, I picked up some Uriage cream and a Keratosis treatment with 30% urea. Hopefully, that does the trick and things clear up.
The doctor did mention that we could take a skin biopsy from my elbow to send off for further testing, but they didn't think it was really necessary at this stage. The plan is to wait and see; if the skin starts peeling, turning red, or acting up more significantly, then I'll head back in.
Essentially, my current status is: maybe I have psoriasis, maybe I don't. 😬

Chris Morgan67 said:Maybe do a little more digging online. For those of us dealing with psoriasis, it isn't that the immune system stops working; it's actually doing its job way too aggressively compared to everyone else.
The whole reason we deal with that scaling is because the immune system mistakenly decides there are wounds on certain parts of the body—even when there aren't—and starts cranking out skin cells at an absurd rate. That’s where the flakes come from.😬
That said, royal jelly shouldn't cause any harm, much like vitamins and similar supplements.🙂

Let me know how the appointment goes.

It would be quite a miracle if my immune system were actually functioning properly... I feel like I've been catching every bug going around for the last few months. Anyway, I'll check back in on Friday once I have some actual news from the doctor.🙂

I have an appointment with my dermatologist this Friday, so I’ll be sure to check back in with you all then to let you know if I am officially 😬 Vance. I know from reading your stories that this can be a tedious process at times, though it's never truly catastrophic. If it seems like I'm making light of this condition, just know that's simply my way of processing it.
Does psoriasis flare up more frequently when your immune system is down, or is there no real connection there? I actually picked up some royal jelly today because my mom insisted it was great for boosting immunity—she figured since it couldn't hurt, I might as well give it a shot. I am fully aware that there is no magic pill or miracle cream that will make psoriasis vanish into thin air, but anything that helps soothe a flare or dial things back is a win in my book!

Anyway, I'll touch base again on Friday, and I'll also give you an update on how this royal jelly "therapy" is treating me...

Does anyone have a recommendation for a dermatologist in Miami who specializes in psoriasis? I’m also curious if anyone there actually goes for phototherapy sessions—I'd love to hear some firsthand accounts or general experiences regarding how effective it's been for you. 😕

I'm actually wondering the same thing—does anyone have a recommendation for a solid dermatologist down in Miami?

Lawrence Ramirez3 said:Making radical shifts in your diet can actually trigger a flare-up. Think of those extreme fad diets—they often backfire. You’re likely dealing with this now because it typically makes its debut between the ages of 25 and 35, though it can technically show up whenever. As far as I know, there are genetic tests available to determine if you have a predisposition to psoriasis, though I'm not sure about the cost or if insurance covers it.
If a dermatologist has already handed you a diagnosis, there's really no need to bother with all that testing.
Best regards,

Thanks for the reply.🙂

We really do understand our own kind. 😁

Well, here we go... after spending enough time in the gourmet foodies, the heavy smokers, and the non-smokers clubs, I guess I’ve finally earned my membership in the psoriasis club. 😁
You really ought to see a dermatologist before things get even messier. And here’s another one of those seemingly ridiculous questions: can psoriasis actually be triggered by changes in your diet? I can't help but wonder why this decided to flare up on me right now, just as I'm hitting my late twenties. Is this something you simply carry around like a silent passenger for your entire life, only for it to suddenly decide to make an unannounced appearance on the surface for no apparent reason?

So, I have a question for you all... maybe I’m just overthinking this and spiraling unnecessarily. I realize I really ought to see a dermatologist to get an actual diagnosis, but I thought I might be able to lean on your collective experiences for a little guidance.
Over the last two or three weeks, these little bumps have started popping up on my elbows—they look a bit like mosquito bites, just slightly larger, and they itch quite frequently. There isn't any redness or peeling skin involved. I've been applying some chamomile soothing cream, but honestly, it hasn't done much of anything. Could these be the early warning signs of psoriasis, or am I just imagining things? I've never dealt with anything like this before, though my late grandmother did struggle with psoriasis.
All in all, do you think there's a chance this could actually be psoriasis?

Good grief, I hope that actually made sense; I feel like I've phrased that terribly. I'm hoping you can follow what I'm getting at. 🙂
Heroin addiction treatment in Health ·
Heroin essentially rewrites a person's entire personality. I have relatives—both my cousin and her husband—who have gone through rehab for Narcotike addiction, and you honestly cannot fathom the types of conclusions they draw or the dark corners of thought they inhabit. When you talk to someone under its influence, there is an immediate, unmistakable sense that something is fundamentally broken; it is difficult to put into words how unsettling it feels.

On the flip side, I know someone who managed to keep their mind relatively intact, yet their physical health was completely decimated in the process. Even two years after quitting heroin, they are facing massive liver issues; the damage is total.

If you are genuinely looking for insight, I would suggest speaking with someone from a local support group or a recovery organization—perhaps a former addict who has lived through the wreckage.

I came across this information online:

The long-term effects of heroin manifest after frequent and repeated use. The consequences of multi-year heroin abuse include vein degradation, heart valve infections, cirrhosis, and liver disease. Pulmonary complications, such as pneumonia, can also arise, stemming both from the user's overall poor health and the depressant effects heroin has on respiration. Furthermore, heroin on the black market is often tainted with additives that do not dissolve easily, causing blockages in the blood vessels leading to the lungs, liver, kidneys, or brain. In short, heroin abuse is linked to severe medical crises, including overdoses, spontaneous miscarriage, collapsed veins, and infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. The warnings regarding the harm caused by heroin are not exaggerations; they are clinical realities.
What do Americans think about Russians? in Miscellaneous ·
On one hand, I’ve always had a hard time with Russian politics, mostly because they’ve historically prioritized their ties with the Mexican people over everything else.
On the other hand, my life would be significantly duller without the works of Lermontov, Tolstoy, and Gogol; there is an undeniable allure to the Russian language. I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting a few Russians who were incredibly outgoing, open, and genuinely cheerful.
p.s. Is the whole "everyone drinks vodka" thing actually a reality? 😁
Jason Morgan2 said:The issue is that you can actually see it in her, and you can hear it in the way she sings. How is it that we didn't see that during Karanov's debut? (I can hardly believe that I am even him being cited as a positive example 🙄). Everyone is terrified during their debuts, but when you're an established icon, it doesn't show. To be a great singer, you essentially have to be a star. You need the ear for it, but the actual voice—well, that’s almost secondary.

🙄

Oh, please, where is the logic here? Of course she HAS stage fright; they dropped her right into the middle of American pop royalty, and now we're expected to act like this self-assured young woman is going to prove she knows more than the legends... how would you feel at twenty years old, performing alongside the biggest artists in the US? Once she's had fifteen years of industry experience, then maybe there will be nerves, but by then, it won't be visible. She has massive potential, but she lacks that certain "soul," and who exactly has that at twenty? Who can convincingly and emotionally sing about tragic loves and profound longing if they haven't lived through it themselves?
If she had sung a song by Vane or Mineja, people would still find something to nitpick (hmmm, hmm, her teeth aren't quite right, her hair looks off...)

Whether she's foolish or a flirt, she has the voice, and that part is indisputable!

p.s. Since when have you had a problem with flirty airheads? Or are they just not your favorite type?
Honestly, Natalie Portman is just in a league of her own!
Need advice, I'm desperate in Health ·
Look, you really should go see a doctor. Stop messing around with all this drinking. I don't know how old you are—you’re probably in those reckless years where you think you have to experiment with alcohol just to feel something—but it's not necessary. It isn't that you need to quit entirely, but there is absolutely no reason to knock back five or six beers in a single sitting.
Go see a doctor!
Contact lenses in Health ·
Andrew Hernandez said:I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU ALL!

My contact lens literally snapped in half this morning! And right there in my eye!
I've been wearing soft lenses for years, and I honestly never imagined such a thing was even physically possible.

Here’s the deal: for a few days now, my left lens had been feeling a bit irritating. I assumed it was just some protein buildup, so I popped it into the case with a cleaning tablet. It seemed to help a little. I put it back in yesterday like usual, but while I was out for the evening, it started bothering me so much that I had to take it out and wrap it in a paper towel. When I got home, I soaked it in solution and tried putting it back in this morning. Within minutes, I felt this bizarre sensation—almost like something was fluttering against my eyeball.

When I finally pulled it out, I was in total shock. All I found on my fingertip was a tiny fragment of the lens.???

I tried searching for the rest, and thankfully, I managed to fish out the second piece.
Unknown

I had absolutely no idea this could happen. This is a first for me.
I wear soft lenses that have a 12-month replacement cycle.

These particular ones were at the 11-month mark. I was planning to switch to a new pair soon, but I never dreamed they could actually crack.

I don't really get it. I wear soft lenses too, and there is zero chance of them snapping. Mine are made of such thin silicone and sit right over the iris. Once you take them out, they are incredibly pliable; you can bend them, squish them, or do whatever you want—they aren't going to break! Maybe you're using a different type... I really hope your eye is doing okay!
Contact lenses in Health ·
I'm not entirely sure what kind of lenses you're rocking—standard soft ones or those silicone hydrogel varieties. I’ve been wearing contacts for seven years now, starting with the basic soft lenses, and honestly, I haven't run into any issues. You can pretty much do whatever you want, provided you don't decide to go skinny dipping in the ocean while wearing them. I mean, you technically could, but I’ve gone free-diving without a mask a few times and ended up losing a lens 😁
. And of course you can wear sunglasses! One doesn't preclude the other. There have been times when I’ve left my lenses in for three or four days straight. I actually brought it up with my optometrist once, and while they mentioned it isn't exactly the gold standard for eye health, they said nothing catastrophic is going to happen if you do it occasionally.

If I were you, I'd suggest picking up some artificial tears—something decent, maybe something like $13, which you can find at any local pharmacy or CVS. It’s a lifesaver when you start feeling that "dry eye" sensation. You can use them even when you aren't wearing your contacts, too.
It would also be a smart move to grab some multi-purpose cleaning tablets. You can pick those up at the drugstore as well. They work by stripping away proteins and enzymes from the lens surface. They cost a bit more upfront, but they're worth the investment; think of it as regular "preventative maintenance" for your eyes.

Since you're a girl, I'm assuming you probably wear makeup. Just a tip: always put your lenses in first, then do your makeup. Otherwise, you end up creating a total mess, and trust me, I know from experience.😁

stormytrucker21 said:I’m honestly wondering how much of a health risk this actually poses and what the damage does to your wallet.

What kind of precautions should someone even be taking here?

😕

And is there any restriction on donating blood afterward?

When you walk into a legitimate tattoo studio, they’ll hand you a waiver to read through and sign, which usually lays out all the fine print quite clearly. If you’ve chosen a reputable shop, you don't really need to lose sleep over disease transmission, though theoretically, things like Hepatitis or HIV can be spread via contaminated needles if standards aren't met. As for the cost, it’s a bit of a sliding scale; it depends on the dimensions, whether you’re sticking to a single color or going full palette, and just how intricate the design is. I personally had a black dragon about five inches in size, and it set me back $167.
If you have a low pain tolerance, you might want to reconsider, because let’s be honest—it hurts like hell. But if you happen to be a bit of a masochist, you’ll probably find the sensation oddly satisfying and end up wanting more (personally, I’m already planning my next one, maybe something around 🙂).

Regarding blood donation, the standard rule is that you have to wait a full year. That said, I wasn't exactly following the handbook myself; I went ahead and donated blood only a month after getting inked, which was probably a pretty irresponsible move on my part.
From dusk till dawn... honestly, when I walked out of the theater, I was absolutely buzzing, totally swept up in the experience. But now? I have no idea what actually happened to me. It’s highly probable they spiked my popcorn with something 😁
