My period is late and I have no idea why in Women's Health ·
Perhaps you ought to consider seeing a physician?
It is entirely plausible that you are dealing with some form of inflammation that has extended to your ovaries, which would certainly explain the delay—are you experiencing particularly painful cycles? Do you find that you suffer from those sharp, sudden pains in your pelvic region without any apparent provocation?
My period is late and I have no idea why in Women's Health ·
It could be stress, or perhaps just a matter of timing.
However, judging by the fact that she isn't taking any pills and remains quite active...
What about other forms of contraception?
I find myself harboring some rather profound skepticism regarding that suggestion.
In all my experience, I have never once heard of anyone being advised to take such an approach.
Furthermore, I harbor serious doubts about whether Deep Relief could even be applied effectively, let alone meet any reasonable standard of hygiene.
If you are getting a tattoo, you simply need to grit your teeth and bear it; I trust you are grown enough to handle it.😬

I find the sensation of needles far more tolerable than having some massive weight crushing my neck. However, we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves by jumping to conclusions; we need to wait for the lab results to come back, and I am desperately trying to convince myself that I won't have to undergo any further testing. 😁
Mantra, mantra, mantra.

Nacy, why don't you try starting with some chamomile or something similar just to see? It certainly won't hurt... and maybe some herbal tea as well.
By the way, that antiseptic wash isn't quite as revolting as I had anticipated, though I did nearly choke on the smell. 🤣

My ideal ambient temperature sits comfortably at a steady 86 degrees.
It is most likely nothing more than poor circulation. Even when my home reaches that 86-degree mark, I find myself sitting there huddled under a heavy duvet.
You really ought to go see a doctor just to be safe, especially since you're experiencing these sudden bouts of feeling cold. It won't cost you anything to get checked out, and it's better to be certain. 🙂

Indeed, I share that profound sensitivity regarding my neck; the mere suggestion of someone touching it fills me with an intense aversion. The very thought of undergoing a thyroid ultrasound is quite 😱
I made a trip over to the Mayo Clinic today, though the experience was rather taxing from the start; I managed to lose my way within the sprawling hospital corridors, only to discover after much wandering that I should have scheduled an appointment since it was my first visit. I looked utterly bewildered—which, truth be told, I was—so the nurse simply offered me a look of pure pity before directing me back downstairs. The entire procedure was over in five minutes, and they’ll be mailing the results to my home.
Now, I am supposed to gargle with this Betadine to soothe my throat, but the damn container is stuck! It simply refuses to budge, which is infuriating.
Susan Vaughn46, perhaps we are looking at a common virus rather than allergies if your throat has become so inflamed. Did the doctor even bother to examine your throat during the exam?

Look, your brother is the doctor here, not me, but I find myself in complete agreement with his assessment.
The statistical probability of you developing melanoma from just two bouts of sun exposure is incredibly slim; had you told me that a mole had been scorched only to subsequently change color five times and triple in size, I would have been telling you to get to a clinic immediately.
However, if this burn truly continues to spread months down the line, or if it undergoes any significant discoloration, then by all means, go see someone.
But in any case—your brother is the medical professional! You should probably listen to him. 😁

Once again, my thanks to briskbison27 for providing the Vinogradski details along with those other helpful instructions. I had assumed my gratitude was already quite apparent, but it seems I was mistaken, so please accept my apologies through this medium. 🙏 🙏
Anyway, enough small talk; Susan Vaughn46, what exactly did the doctor have to say about your situation?

briskbison27 said:But Maca, you don't actually have hyperthyroidism!!! All you have is a primary care doctor's suspicion regarding an enlarged thyroid, which might not even be anything at all. If you were truly suffering from that level of hyperthyroidism, your symptoms would be far more aggressive than what you're describing.
Either head over to Washington, D.C. tomorrow morning to get your hormone levels checked—though I suspect they might not be ordering those tests just yet—or simply go to a private clinic, of which there are plenty throughout the city, to test your TSH, T3, and T4 so you can finally have some peace of mind.
Feel free to use Betadine.
If you have a referral for a thyroid ultrasound, schedule it at Mayo Clinic (though I believe you'll likely need to see a nuclear medicine specialist for an initial exam first).
Just please, stop panicking again.

Is it really a matter of inducing panic just because I am asking where or how I should go to have my hormones tested? I am perfectly inclined to believe that this is nothing, given that I am genuinely experiencing no symptoms, but I would much rather wait a day than inadvertently compromise my results. As for the remark about avoiding Betadine in cases of hyperthyroidism... that was merely a passing thought. Of course I intend to use it; my only intention was to ascertain the proper timing and location for bloodwork to ensure the data remains untainted, as I previously stated.

Furthermore, I never once suggested that I was presenting any symptoms of hyperthyroidism, so it is quite illogical for you to conclude that I have it, just as it is equally unfounded to assume I do not. It is the same principle by which I cannot draw any conclusions before the lab results arrive. briskbison27, regardless of your sincere intentions to be helpful, for which I am indeed grateful, you are behaving as though I am a small child in need of soothing. This attitude is neither justified nor particularly pleasant. So, please, let us move past it.

I just left my doctor's office after a quick examination of my throat, and she concluded it’s likely just some viral infection causing all this inflammation. She prescribed me a Betadine antiseptic rinse to help manage the soreness.
Then, while checking my neck, she manipulated my cervical area and decided that my thyroid might actually be enlarged. Just wonderful. Naturally, she handed me a referral for a full hormone panel.
However, I am currently reading the instructions on the Betadine packaging, which explicitly warns against its use if one has hyperthyroidism, and further states that I must wait at least two weeks after using it before undergoing any hormone testing.
Does anyone here have any insight into how one goes about scheduling these specific tests, and more importantly, what the typical wait time is for results? If you happen to know, I would appreciate the information.
Oh, look at that, a storm is rolling in. 😁

If you ask me, this infamous "globus hystericus" sensation is essentially nothing more than a metaphorical lump caught in your throat.
It typically manifests as a direct byproduct of intense stress or as a lingering consequence of anxiety, most frequently observed in young women.

It is quite fascinating, really, how many of us seem to be struggling for breath here.😁
Grace Fisher31, in my case, the sensation sits at the base of my neck; it feels as though I desperately need to burp, yet it simply won't happen—there is this relentless pressure, as if the entire internal passage (whatever that anatomical structure is actually called, since I am certainly no medical expert) has constricted, whether due to some internal dysfunction or an external factor that is difficult to put into words. Now, my throat is burning and swallowing has become a chore. I am actually just heading to see my doctor now, so I will update you once I know what is going on, though I suspect it is merely a simple sore throat.
Regardless, I shall inquire on your behalf as well.😁

Good grief, I assure you, I am not on my deathbed.
It is merely a sore throat, though it arrived with an atypically strange onset that caught me quite off guard.

@jadesailor14—yes, yes, I suppose you are right about that. 😉

fadedmarlin402, please, spare me your mockery! My discomfort is entirely genuine! 🤣
Fainted / Passed out in Health ·
I experienced one truly catastrophic collapse, and let me tell you, it was harrowing: a sudden wave of nausea, the entire world blurring and warping before my eyes, the overwhelming sensation that I was about to vomit, my legs simply giving way under my own weight, and a cold sweat breaking out over my skin. I managed to stumble off the bus, practically slamming myself against a parked car, and sought out a nearby pub because, despite the circumstances, I still possess a modicum of decency and needed to vomit. I somehow managed to ask some women where the restroom was located; they handed me a key, yet there I was, standing right next to the toilet and unable to actually see it, so I had to ask them again for directions. They pointed it out, at which point I began spinning around like a lunatic, frantically asking, "Where is it? Where is it?" before finally just collapsing onto the floor. 😁
As for what follows—if I am standing still, I typically have about half an hour before the next collapse occurs, especially if it is hot or if I have eaten anything recently (unlike some of you), though even then, I tend to eat very little.

Sam Hall15, really? 😕 Are you perhaps making some sort of obscure allusion to those antiquated theories regarding wandering wombs? That is the only logical connection I can draw from such a statement, though I cannot say I am certain. 🤔
I have come to realize, however, that a globus hystericus is an entirely different matter altogether... 🤔 Now I find myself quite perplexed... Sam Hall15, do be more explicit! 😁

Indeed, I am scheduled to see my physician tomorrow afternoon. I have finally dismissed any notions of hypochondria and concluded that this is a straightforward case of pharyngitis. To be blunt, swallowing has become an impossible task. I find myself practically jumping out of my chair every single time I attempt to swallow my own saliva. And the pain is absolutely 🙂

I categorically reject any notion that my issues could be thyroid-related, despite the fact that people have been relentlessly questioning me lately—particularly those who suffer from thyroid conditions themselves.
Given the sheer volume of problems I am currently grappling with, a thyroid diagnosis is quite literally the last thing I need on my plate.
I find myself much more inclined to accept a diagnosis of anxiety. *Globus hystericus*. That settles it.
I think I'll just stick to drinking some green tea. 😁
I appreciate the advice.

That thought crossed my mind as well. The sole distinction between myself and a true hypochondriac is that when I visit my physician and describe my symptoms, we actually conclude that something is legitimately wrong. It isn't some figment of my imagination; it is a physical reality.

Though, I must admit, this shortness of breath could very well be serious. My thanks to briskbison27 😬

For about two weeks now, I’ve been dealing with this persistent sensation of choking... it feels exactly as if a piece of food is lodged deep in my throat and simply refuses to budge. To make matters worse, whenever I touch my neck from the midline downwards, the choking sensation intensifies along with a sharper pain. I haven't the slightest clue what might be causing this; I initially suspected my tonsils, but the discomfort seems to sit much lower than that. Does anyone have any insight?
Yes, I am well aware that I need to see a physician, and I fully intend to call for an appointment tomorrow, though I expect the wait times will be significant. My dilemma, however, is that I am genuinely reluctant to visit her if this turns out to be nothing at all; I see her so frequently that I would feel utterly mortified, fearing she might dismiss me as a mere hypochondriac. 😬
It is truly fascinating to observe how these people insist on presenting their "new" and "revolutionary" discoveries as if they were groundbreaking, despite the fact that I had already mastered the subject last autumn, much as previous generations did long before us. Honestly, I could probably post such an observation myself... for the tenth time in a row. 🙄

The only places where I have ever encountered such utter nonsense are within certain religious pamphlets and similar publications. According to their logic, bacteria are introduced far more frequently than they ought to be, and they claim that vigorous sexual activity somehow damages the cervix or the uterus itself, eventually necessitating surgical removal. That is the narrative I have heard, though I suspect the actual causes cited by my relatives are entirely different and perhaps carry a modicum of sense. Or am I mistaken?

My mother insists with unwavering persistence that tanning is perfectly healthy, so I simply tune her out, regardless of our biological connection. One always seems to find the most misguided individuals within one's own family tree.

If you have already had children and have no desire for more, an IUD could truly be your best option. I sincerely hope you have access to a competent gynecologist, but before your appointment, I suggest you do some research online so you can vet their advice and ask the right questions. As I mentioned, there is a wealth of information available on the internet if you take the time to read through it.

I can’t help but laugh... I am still laughing... honestly, it’s just constant laughter at this point...🤣 🤣 🤣
You really ought to believe these two individuals; they clearly possess more insight than the entire medical establishment combined, let alone those poor souls who have managed to crack open a textbook or two in their lifetimes.🙏
brightowl13, no, that certainly won't result in you losing your uterus, much like how masturbation won't cause hair to sprout from your palms, nor will it blind you, and it certainly won't land you in hell just because you enjoy pleasuring your boyfriend.

As for IUDs or birth control pills—just look up some information online, though I suspect the right choice depends heavily on your age and the specific nature of your relationship. Even modern IUDs are designed to flood your system with hormones, and while they might be safer than older models, I personally find the idea of swallowing a pill far more palatable than having an implant lodged inside my body...
