What happened to film buffs on this thread? Looks like everyone's ditched us for AMC Theatres... 🤣...
Mean Creek (Redemption on the River) in Movies ·
If I weren't feeling lazy about making comparisons, I’d probably bring up 'River's Edge'—that's an 80s flick, right? Watching this actually made me think of 'Lord of the Flies,' too. If you mashed those two together, you'd pretty much nail the vibe of 'Mean Creek.' It’s also fair to say that in movies, rivers always seem to mark either someone's breaking point or their fresh start. Throw in a killer soundtrack and some great cinematography, and you've got a movie that ultimately doesn't have to mean anything at all. Not that any of you care, but whatever—it matters to me. It matters because it feels like a memory of a long afternoon that never actually happened.
It reminds me a bit of being in a relationship where, for just a split second, you remember why you even cared... assuming you can imagine being in a relationship with American cinema.😁

Ramblers said:Man, just start a separate thread for your signature so it doesn't hog half the screen 😉 nobody's actually reading it anyway

...honestly, I might... though it’d probably still be smaller than the space occupied by your brain cells...🙂 😁

If you guys are this obsessed with Medox, just start a dedicated thread already...🙄 ...
Sex and violence in movies in Movies ·
Richard Hernandez13 said:Sorry, but that’s a pretty dumb take.
First off, the thread isn't titled "Sex and Violence," it's "Sex and Violence in Film." Those are basically the two main reasons why old guys on censorship boards start reaching for their scissors.
So, why do they lump sex and violence together, and why do they sometimes seem to have a problem with one more than the other?
Person, I was hoping this would actually be a decent discussion; Person was really just the catalyst here.

Man, Richard Hernandez13, at least you were being reasonable for once 🙄...Look, the whole point of this thread is talking about sex and violence in movies, right? Do I seriously need to quote the exact title for you to follow what I'm saying? I was just pointing out how stupid it is to constantly pair those two concepts together—which is exactly what those "old guys on censorship boards" always do, just like you said.

I just hope you aren't that local drunk who thinks he knows everything... god help us.😵 🤣 🤣...

Mount Rushmore said:I didn't even bring up sex. I was talking about violence—murder and rape. I don't group rape under the category of sex.

Exactly... screw grouping 'sex and violence' together... as if they're just one big happy bucket.🙄..
sex and violence... what's next? 'breathing and incest'?
Richard Hernandez13 said:Just an inside joke from my circle.
Once you figure out how to photosynthesize, you've basically transcended materialism because you don't need cash (or its reproductive cycles) anymore. 😬

True, though I wasn't really going there 😁...I just meant capitalism will wrap itself around any ideology as long as it turns a profit. :-)

Thomas Diaz6 said:I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby. But I am watching you play dumb right now. It’s about as exciting as sailing Into the Deep. "Destiny"? What kind of destiny does a guy have when he’s just counting down 28 years until he dies? He doesn't have a destiny; his destiny is just hitting the grave. And honestly, if we're talking plot—is this that "poetry from hell" book or whatever? A poem for a son? Give me a break. I could be dying right now and asking to be put out of my misery, and sure, I'd write great poetry. It's cheap and overcomplicated. That's the problem with the movie—it tries too hard. The only good part is those two dogs moving for like two seconds before it's over. 😢

you're just rambling here 😁 😁...
Richard Hernandez13 said:You know, Castro's (and Che Guevara's) Cuba isn't exactly a shining beacon of social justice and equality.

Oh, thanks for the epiphany...😬...
....what photosynthesis? What are you even talking about? 😕 ...
Beyond that, I think the filmmakers made a conscious choice—if you want to call it that—to focus on the unblemished, ideological side of Che Guevara's life. It was actually pretty smart, and honestly, a decent move. They avoided playing the controversy card, which could have hyped up the movie but ultimately would have ruined it. Dealing with the contradictions between Che's ideals and how Fidel Castro actually ran things in practice is a mess (and yeah, practice usually ruins everything 😁...). Instead, they made South America the main character, and I'm actually a fan of that approach...

Richard Hernandez13 said:The movie is also an American co-production, for that matter.

...could be... wouldn't surprise me one bit... the only ideology capitalism has is making money, which is why it's such a nasty beast. :-)

...man, I am absolutely obsessed with these little clips..😍...
And honestly, if I never drink another glass of Cabernet Sauvignon again, it'll be too soon. 🤣...
Walter Lee7 said:It would be way too ironic if they were the ones who made him, considering they actually ended up killing him... then again, Americans always have their hands in everything (and their money, too).
What a bunch of lowlifes these Americans are... I mean, what do they actually do to decent people? The man just wanted to build a better world, and instead, they killed him, cut off his hands, and buried him in some unmarked grave. They’re the ones responsible for all the left-wing versus right-wing chaos we see down there today. 😠

First off, you need to realize that Americans are the ones who get to decide what a "better world" actually looks like. 🙂 😁😁

blueranger12 said:That would be a pretty twisted sight.😁 It’d totally kill the vibe inside. There’s that one song... what do they call it? "Sex is much Better When The hooker is crying."😁 Like that mindless band singing "The roof is on fire, the roof, the roof..."

🤣...so you see, he’d actually be setting the mood... people might even pay to have you back next time...😁😁

..if you've already reached rock bottom, 186 miles you might as well walk in there even if you're sobbing. 🙂 😁

...I’m trying to dig up a specific memory from one of these movies, but I’m coming up empty. With >, I can't even recall if I actually liked it—maybe I was just desperate at the time. And >? Nothing. The Coens had such a brilliant run, but > felt like the end of an era for them. Not a glamorous or revolutionary end, either; more like an old guy telling a stale joke and then groaning. To me, > feels like that weird sensation of people who claim they've seen the afterlife. Is there anything out there? What's it like? My only answer is: I have no clue. I don't remember. All I can see is some bright light cutting through the dark in a theater...😢

* A cough is basically a death sentence.
* A detective can only crack a case if they've been suspended from the force.
* You can pick any lock in seconds with a credit card or a paperclip—unless you're trying to get into a burning building with a kid trapped inside.
* There's absolutely no need to say "hello" or "goodbye" when you start or end a phone call.
* You can see the Eiffel Tower from almost any window in Paris.
* One guy shooting at twenty people has a better shot than twenty people shooting at one guy.
* Local news always manages to air a story that hits you personally right when you turn it on. And of course, heaven forbid you flip through a few channels; it’ll always land on the exact station showing that specific news report.

....good 👍...😁😁...
...🤣...now that I think about it, I don't recall anyone in movies actually using a KEY to open anything or enter a room...!!!!....
