Kidney ultrasound in Health ·
Megan Patel47 said:I was in Cleveland waiting exactly a month for a kidney ultrasound. I went up there one day, booked it, came back a month later, had my ultrasound at Johns Hopkins Hospital without any issues, and got my results immediately. I don't know why you think you'll have to wait that long—did you actually try to schedule anything yet? And no, I didn't have any special connections or pull to get it done.

Back in November last year, my doctor gave me a referral for an ultrasound because I’ve been having this pain in my right kidney—basically feeling this intense, sharp pressure. When I called the Mayo Clinic, the woman on the phone started grilling me about my specific kidney issues. I just told her I needed an exam because I felt like something was wrong. Apparently, she needed a formal diagnosis first (which I didn't have, obviously, I just had symptoms), so she told me the wait time was six months and that I should just show up with a referral that explicitly stated the condition.
Naturally, I just gave up. And yeah, my kidney still feels sensitive.
So, what was the actual diagnosis listed on your referral?
Why does my belly button hurt? in Health ·
Gary Miller61 said:I’d love to know exactly what kind of belly button you have to dig through until you're bleeding just to get it clean enough😬
🤣

Just so we're clear, mine is actually pretty top-tier
I can drop a photo if anyone's actually interested😁🤣

Despite all the guys here acting surprised, we’ve actually reached a bit of a consensus. It turns out there really is some mild irritation when you're cleaning out your navel. And from what I can tell, it’s mostly happening to women. At least that's something to keep in mind, right? 😁

Gary Miller61 said:well, why on earth would anyone be digging around in their belly button anyway? 😕
😬

I mean... just like how we clean our ears,
you'd think you should probably clean your navel too (even if it's way less frequent).
To me, it's just basic hygiene.

Anyone actually got an answer for this??

Thanks for the heads up, 😉 but honestly? It’s not even about pain. It’s more like... an annoyance. Like, it just gets in the way. For me, it's mostly just a nuisance. 🤣

am I losing my mind here? 😛

I mean, honestly—when you're going inside him, you know, if you just linger there with your fingers for a while... if you catch my drift...😛

Why does it actually hurt when you poke at your belly button? Like, why is there sensitivity there when you're just messing around with it? It’s always been a total mystery to me. 😁

So, my doctor handed me a referral to head over to the Mayo Clinic, but let’s be real—the waiting list there is a total nightmare. There's absolutely no way I'm seeing anyone there for at least six months, if I'm lucky.

Is it even worth trying to get this done through a private practice instead? And if it is, does anyone have a solid recommendation? I'm based out of Cleveland.
Antidepressants: General Discussion in Health ·
Susan Diaz91 said:Since I lost my baby about 20 days ago, I've been prescribed Normabel at 5mg, three times a day.

I'm honestly terrified of taking this... what if I get hooked? The label explicitly says it can be addictive.

Has anyone here ever used this stuff? What are your actual experiences with antidepressants, Normabel, Xanax, or anything similar?

Man, that is just heavy. I am so incredibly sorry.
I've never touched that stuff myself, but I know people who have.
If you want my two cents? Don't take it. Instead, try tackling this head-on with these methods—you'll see they actually work:

1) BREATHING EXERCISES. Every single day, set aside at least 10 minutes. Turn off the TV, kill the music, silence everything, and just breathe. If you can, do it in natural light or even out in the sun (that spring sunshine is good for the soul). Deep inhale, long exhale. Do that at least a hundred times.

2) RUNNING. Try to go for a run around 1.2 miles at least twice a week. You’ll be surprised at how much it lifts your mood!

3) GET ACTIVE. Try hitting the gym, doing some Pilates, dancing, or whatever helps you build physical strength. Just remember: when you strengthen the body, you strengthen the mind too.

Personally, since I deal with hypothyroidism, I went through a bit of a depressive funk a couple of years back. But between hormone replacement therapy and everything I just mentioned, I'm totally back to my old self. It just takes persistence and serious discipline. As for those chemicals? Honestly, I don't buy into them. Good luck!

You don’t have to follow the rules to the letter, but sticking to a few core principles really saved my skin.

Wait, are you talking about that book *The Zone Diet*? Is that what you mean?

quietpilot87 said:Even milk is perfectly fine if you're careful about what you mix it with and how much you drink. 🙏

So, quick question for the group—do you guys usually grab whole milk or go for the lower fat stuff? If someone's actually struggling with digestion, should they be switching over to skim or light milk instead?

jadesailor14 said:If my two kids ate fresh cheese, they’d probably need a week just to recover from the sugar rush. Getting older definitely makes these things hit harder, doesn't it?

Every doctor I've ever talked to has told me you can't really go wrong with some fresh cow's milk cheese. Personally, I think mixing it with a bit of cream works pretty well too.

As for the tea, what's the logic behind pairing mint with chamomile? Just asking out of pure curiosity. I know mint is supposed to be soothing, but honestly, it's just not my thing.🙄
I can't stop snacking before bed—help! in Health ·
What makes you think we’re looking at a psychological issue here?

I’m the exact same way—if I don't eat, sleep is basically off the table. I usually have to have a full meal about an hour before hitting the hay just to settle my stomach. That said, I don't go overboard; I'm not exactly grabbing a greasy hot dog or anything like that since that's not really my thing. Usually, it's just some toast or maybe a bowl of cocoa or something light.

You probably just have a crazy fast metabolism.

So, what’s everyone’s diet looking like lately?

It feels like every "nutrition expert" on TV has a different rulebook, right? One guy says milk is fine, the next one swears it's poison. One says go nuts with citrus, the other says stay far away.

I’ve realized it’s basically a total crapshoot—everyone reacts differently. Like, I have this coworker who can’t even catch a whiff of pineapple without his stomach doing backflips. And honestly? I’ve noticed the same thing about myself; pineapple just doesn't sit right.

Whenever I eat something that triggers me, my tongue goes crazy—it gets these weird little dark spots all over it. It’s a nightmare. Now I have to dodge coffee and raw onions like they're radioactive.

How do you guys handle it? Is there any specific food or drink—besides maybe yogurt—that actually helps prevent inflammation or at least keeps it at bay? I heard someone mention thyme tea, but honestly, I’m pretty skeptical about that kind of stuff.

Where’s the best place to go?
Honestly, trying to get any actual information over the phone from the Mayo Clinic is basically impossible, and I have a feeling if I wait for them to call me in, I’ll be waiting forever.
Does anyone know where they handle private appointments? Like, does every single OB-GYN office do this, and what kind of prices am I looking at?
I’d really appreciate some recommendations here.
Thanks

Robert Newman5 said:Look, I know this isn't exactly the most pleasant topic to dive into, but I’m curious to hear what everyone else's experience has been like. What are we actually dealing with here? Like, how does it even happen in the first place, how do you treat it, and what actually works to make things better? Any insights would be appreciated.
I spend way too much time sitting around lately, and I’ve been dealing with this nagging stinging sensation around my anal area whenever I hit the bathroom. It’s especially bad if I’m using rough toilet paper, and honestly, I’ve started seeing some blood on the paper too. Is it just a simple case of skin irritation from being too rough, or could it be something else entirely? Who knows, right?
Thanks everyone.
P.S.
So, I stumbled upon this link:
I was scrolling through some health info on Plivazdravlje earlier, specifically looking into the section on diseases, and it got me thinking about how much information is actually out there if you know where to dig. It’s one of those rabbit holes that starts with a simple symptom and ends with you questioning everything you thought you knew about wellness. Ever feel like that? Like you're just one Google search away from a full-blown existential crisis regarding your own biology? Anyway, I'll leave the link here for anyone who enjoys that kind of deep dive.

Listen to me on this, and actually believe me for once:
At the end of the day, the absolute most important thing is just getting moving—you know, actually committing to some kind of sport or staying active. It’s that simple, really. Why make it more complicated than it needs to be? To start things off, running is actually a great move.
Prilosec and chronic gut motility issues in Health ·
So, I’ve been dealing with stomach issues for about six months now—probably stress-related, plus I had an issue with Helicobacter pylori. A few times, my GI doctor put me on Prilosec, which helps for a bit, but after two weeks, everything just goes right back to how it was before.

The main symptoms are this dull ache in my upper stomach and a lot of discomfort if I eat anything too acidic or spicy. And when life gets stressful? Yeah, it gets pretty unpleasant.

Well, here’s the deal. Since things have flared up again lately, I didn't feel like making the trek to the specialist, so my primary care physician prescribed some Prilosec—two boxes of the 40 mg strength. The pharmacist told me to take one tablet in the morning and one in the evening.

What’s bugging me is that the label on the medication doesn't mention taking two tablets a day for any condition, and if I remember correctly, I used to only take one pill once a day. So now I’m wondering: did the pharmacist mix things up, or did my doctor write the script wrong?

Basically, is it actually okay to take 40 mg of Prilosec twice a day?
I'm feeling this massive pressure in my stomach, so I'm honestly a little worried about accidentally overdosing.
Zoloft and thyroid issues in Health ·
Zachary Torres5 said:You can also get by on whiskey; honestly, it’s even cheaper.🙂

Heh. Yeah. I mean, sure, you can—assuming your stomach can actually handle it. But there's a massive difference between just boosting your mood and actually boosting your ability to function. Personally? I'd much rather go for the latter. 😉
Zoloft and thyroid issues in Health ·
fadedhound69, everything you said hits the mark. I never actually suggested I’d take an antidepressant just to fix my thyroid issues; I meant more along the lines of using it as a "boost" if things get rough because of the hormone deficiency (is that really such a crazy way to put it? Haha.). For now, though, I'm not looking to go down that road, so I'm just checking to see if anyone here uses them to help level things out during those dips. Thanks, thanks much! 😁
Zoloft and thyroid issues in Health ·
Maybe I wasn't being super clear. Look, I'm not jumping on antidepressants just yet since my T3 and T4 levels aren't actually in the danger zone. My TSH is up and my thyroid is feeling a bit swollen, but nothing crazy. I once saw this woman who had massive TSH spikes and rock-bottom T3/T4 levels, and she swore after taking Zoloft she felt like a whole new person—like she finally got her life back on track. I didn't really get a chance to sit down and have a long heart-to-heart with her about side effects or anything, though.
Honestly, I definitely need something to give me a boost because I’m still not quite feeling like my old self. So, I'm doing a little digging.
Zoloft and thyroid issues in Health ·
Thanks for the heads-up, Grace Kelly44.
I’m actually staying off Zoloft and any other antidepressants for the time being since my thyroid levels are slightly elevated.
That said, I deal with occasional arrhythmias even without the Zoloft—though honestly, I doubt the heart stuff is even linked to the meds; a thyroid issue can trigger those palpitations all on its own, right?
My hair has actually improved a bit since I started taking Synthroid. Pro tip: just getting it trimmed once a month helps with the volume, at least a little. 😉

steelfalcon21 and Zachary Torres5, I hear you. I know people who swear by these meds and say they’re a lifesaver. But if you ask me, there isn't an antidepressant (or an antipsychotic, for that matter) that doesn't take as much as it gives. There’s always a trade-off, whether it’s physical side effects or something else entirely.
That’s why I want to exhaust every other healthy option before I even go down that road.
