I would simply point out that locating someone through an IP address is only possible if you work directly with an internet service provider; they would need both the specific connection timestamp and the exact IP used, especially considering how dynamic IP addresses were back when older posts were made.

Not quite; it’s actually more of a middle ground.

The affected users are just regular community members who were accidentally deleted during our recent server migration and software updates. They weren't banned, nor are they those inactive accounts that sign up without ever posting; they were simply lost in the shuffle due to a technical error. 🙂

The Security section, located within the IT help service subforum, essentially refers to safety—specifically, it can be interpreted as computer and cybersecurity.

I honestly feel this is unnecessary. We could easily just open a single dedicated thread—among several others, of course—where regular users can hash things out. As I’ve mentioned before, we already have PDFs covering everything from web programming and cybersecurity to advanced user guides. Just because some people on Reddit don't bother looking at those PDFs because they aren't interested doesn't mean we should change how things work. If someone is actually interested in hacking or security, they shouldn't be able to just type "hacking" into a search bar and have a massive list of related topics dumped on them.

I believe we are looking at unique visits to the specific link or thread itself. It shouldn't matter whether a user is registered or not; what counts is simply who opened the topic, provided we are indeed measuring unique visits.

If they have any interest in it, there's always a search engine out there ready to guide them toward that topic.

There is currently a Hacking thread within the Web Programming subforum where people discuss various aspects of hacking and security measures. In my humble opinion, there isn't quite enough engagement there to justify spinning it off into its own dedicated subforum just yet. 🤷

Even if the FBI were after him, they couldn't just force a complete change of his username. The only thing possible is a purely and strictly aesthetic adjustment, such as removing hyphens, changing capitalization, or stripping out numbers.
