Have you tried just killing Norton and restarting it? Maybe your internet connection dropped out while the update was downloading. When does the license actually expire?

The idea isn't bad. But I'm assuming that option would end up being added to the postbit area right next to the avatar and user info (location, post count, etc.).
I actually dug up an example on a vBulletin page showing where that sits, just for anyone who isn't familiar with how that works.
This thread would be a lot easier if there was a poll with maybe three options so the forum members could actually weigh in and make their voices heard.🙂

Regarding the bold text, it sounds like the browser is essentially "caching" it or remembering it somehow. If it's only grabbing 5 kB on the initial load and then just 1 kB for everything else after that...
Yeah, but your browser is already struggling to load things fast enough anyway. For example, when you click on a thread, you already have to wait a second or two just for all 40 posts to properly line up. If we added these video tags, it would take way longer. Every time you try to play one of those clips within a post, your browser takes a bigger hit; you end up having 10 to 15 different video clips running in a single tab, whereas on YouTube, you’re usually just dealing with one at a time.
But looking at it realistically, using tags would basically be the same experience as loading images in a thread. From what I've heard, though, this kind of hack would eat up memory on the forum itself—not to mention potentially slowing down the whole site or messing with its stability. This server still crashes randomly from time to time, and it'll probably start breaking down even more if we start installing more hacks.
Regarding those video tags—assuming you’re talking about embedded clips—it’s honestly better to just leave them out. It would only drag down the thread loading speeds (I mean, waiting for every single clip to buffer feels like an eternity), plus it starts eating up the forum's storage capacity. Even though we have plenty of gigabytes to work with, that data adds up faster than you'd think.

Honestly, it's a good thing that so many features on this forum haven't been working right since some updates over a year ago. The admin team probably feels like there’s zero point in rolling out any new changes when things are still broken 😁
What kind of "insight" are you talking about? You mean being able to see which users are just farming reputation points...? Look, you can give those "points" to other people normally, and technically you could boost your own original account if you were using a burner account to give yourself a thumbs up. But you can't just directly inflate your own reputation score.
As for "favorite users," we basically already have that feature through contact lists. We've got block lists and friend lists, but with the friends list—or "favorites"—it’s more convenient because we don't see their posts; we just see the pluses next to their nicknames on the homepage. It makes it way easier to spot when our friends are online.
And all that stuff about highest ratings, most popular users, or 5-star rankings? Honestly, it's redundant. Sure, there are some forums out there that use those features just for show or because they found some obscure vBulletin hack that isn't used much, but here, it would just be a playground for spammers and trolls. It wouldn't serve any actual purpose.

Yeah, that's exactly the point, and that's how it should work.
It’s not quite like Facebook, though. On Facebook, you get those threaded replies to comments, whereas here on the forum, quoting is just the standard way to go. What we're talking about is basically just that function where you upvote or downvote someone's reputation.
As for the list itself, you'd have a list of users who gave that person a Thanks or a groan, and normally, that would just show up in the little window directly under the post. The size of that window would just depend on how many people actually used the feature. So, for example, if I drop a funny post over on Marketplace, you might see a whole bunch of users listed right under that post indicating whether they liked it or not.
Yeah, that would basically show up right under every single post (assuming you actually click on someone's comment). And when you consider there are several thousand active users on this Forum, those likes are going to start piling up under every post pretty fast.
Maybe she could cut back on those annoying quotes, but then you'd just end up with a massive pile of names under every single post showing who gave them a "Thanks" or a "Groan." It would basically make every single thread on the entire site look just as cluttered as the main landing page, specifically that online user list at the bottom where you see nearly a thousand different handles scrolling by. In other words, it would be a total mess and feel way too crowded.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. Some people just lean on that stuff purely to boost their popularity on the Forum. They treat those "thumbs up" and "thanks" buttons like they’re some kind of status symbol for their reputation, which, honestly, is totally pointless to me.
And then once they start throwing their weight around with that feature, you’ll eventually see status updates popping up like, "[Username] is highly esteemed by the community."

That's the truth. The only thing is that once those 40 days are up, they want you to buy a license. You'll get that pop-up message, but honestly, you can just ignore it and keep on doing your thing just fine.
This trailer doesn't really give much away, honestly. It feels pretty similar to how they handled the Cloverfield movie, which was also centered around those mysterious creatures. We'll just have to wait and see how this actually plays out in the end. Time will tell if it's going to be a hit or a total dud.
