Congratulations to the fighters; stepping into the UFC octagon is no small feat.
It's a shame about Sancic; he just hasn't had any luck lately. Relying solely on Kyokushin makes it difficult to succeed in the UFC. Even though Sancic worked on diversifying his skills. That's why I appreciate the sport—a fighter needs to be versatile.

A bit of electricity, some ultrasound, a little physical therapy, and now everything is feeling great.

Everything revolves around the government these days. It’s wild to think about, especially since I'm still so young. 🙂 He got his term quite quickly.

In any case, I’d recommend having a professional take a look at that shoulder. They can give you the best advice on how to handle it.

There you have it. Now you’re back to being a ninja in full gear. 😁

No, no... I don't think so. It doesn't feel right.

placidbison20, is it true? Do you have any verified info regarding whether this forum will start charging fees? I was just reading that serious discussions are happening about it over on the Pets forum... let me know. 😲 🤷

Alright, so I finally made the call. I'm actually going to start training some kind of combat sport. Spent way too much time weighing my options between Muay Thai and MMA, but honestly, MMA just looks more fun, so yeah, that’s the move.

Problem is, I'm living right in the middle of the city, so I'm torn on which gym to hit up: the one over in Dubrava or the one in Trešnjevka. I know Trešnjevka is closer to me, but I'm wondering about the actual quality of the coaching. My buddy trains at the Dubrava spot, so I could head there, but then again, Trešnjevka is right around the corner. What do you guys think?

Just a heads-up though—I've never actually stepped foot in a ring or anything. I've just watched a ton of fights on TV, haha.

Basically, it's the same organization, just operating out of two different locations. Robin Palmer3 will likely reach out to clarify things for you.

Yes, along with Mark Hunt, I would probably also mention Chef, as he isn't particularly tall either...🤷

I believe the question is being asked quite seriously, so: one can certainly possess a stance, and indeed a wide variety of them, provided that stance serves as a foundation for a subsequent move or a decisive cut—essentially acting as a preparatory position for something else. However, as a standalone skill involving such stances, I don't think it exists.

That’s essentially why I didn't train at all before, and why I haven't picked up where I left off with my old routine back in the city. I guess that's just how it was.
I have to admit, I held some prejudices regarding karate. Maybe I was wrong.
I suppose I have a few more.
It’s a bit more intense, I suppose. Maybe less so for Kyokushin, though—it feels slightly different there.
All of this just gives me more reason to leave. I suppose I might try to convince the good ones to stay and talk some sense into the bad ones. Maybe.
😬

I suppose I am looking forward to it. Maybe.
I was planning to head out sometime this fall, but... college happens.

You see, I had those same prejudices toward karate too.🙄 I thought it was just a bunch of weaklings tapping each other, barely making contact. I didn't know much about Kyokushin back then; everything was a blur, just a vague idea that it was a slightly better version of karate. Then, I show up, they hit me like an idiot, and I realize these are the toughest fighters I've ever sparred with. They are strong as horses, hitting with full power, and they never seem to get enough training. It's truly incredible. And since then, I've been one of them.😁

p.s. sorry placidbison20, I won't [do it] anymore🙂

Kyokushinkai is typically translated as the "society of ultimate truth," which I suppose sounds just as cryptic to an American as it does to anyone else in the West... But, it really is exactly what you described: there aren't any shortcuts or hidden mysteries, just endless, punishing work. To my mind, that might be the actual "secret" behind martial arts—that final truth—which probably applies to pretty much any discipline, if you think about it...

Exactly, I agree. That principle should apply to all skills. It's interesting how clearly this is visible in modern MMA. You see exactly how someone handles their tools, how disciplined they are, and how effectively they apply their craft. There is no mystical "chi" energy or lethal touch involved...😁

I guess it would definitely be best to try out a few different spots before committing, though I didn't realize an "old timer" 🤣 like me even had options to choose from, let alone multiple ones.
I'd say I'm pretty strong, I guess, but man, every time I hear those Japanese names like "Kyokushin," all I think about is insane stretching. Ever since I stopped playing sports seriously, I've become about as flexible as a brick. But, to be honest, I'd love to get a workout in, so maybe I'll hit you up after New Year's if that works. 😉 Thanks for getting back to me.

Just give it a shot; there's no harm in trying. Follow the advice you've been given, and eventually, you'll figure out what fits you best. Age isn't an issue—many people start around 25 or 27. Being strong is a major advantage; once you master the technique, you'll know how to use that power. Don't sweat the flexibility part either; everything clicks in time. Just work as hard as you can, pushing a little further each session. Don't get caught up in fancy names for skills. Kyokushin is just karate—specifically, the most intense style of it. It essentially means "the ultimate truth." There are no shortcuts or secret teachings here; it all comes down to grueling, disciplined training. Best regards.

Samuel Morales said:Hey guys, got a quick question. I'm 22 and I've basically lived in the gym my whole life—I'm pretty strong and coordinated, but honestly, my flexibility is kind of non-existent. 😁 Basically, because of some dumb decisions I made, I stopped doing sports seriously, so now I just hit the weight room to keep my cardio and muscle definition somewhat decent. 😢 I'm slammed with stuff right now, but starting next February, things clear up for me, so I want to start training some kind of combat sport recreationally. So, what would you recommend, and is this even doable? I really want the training to be hardcore—like, the more intense, the better—around 3 to 5 times a week, and I’d prefer something where strength plays a big role alongside technique. 😁 Obviously, I don't have any competitive ambitions or anything, and I've zero experience with martial arts. Also, two big questions: where and how should I go about this?

btw I'm from Chicago 😉

Hey, if you want grueling workouts, if you're strong (or want to be), if you have mental toughness, and if you want conditioning, come join us for Kyokushin. The training is legitimate and high-quality, and the crew is great—very positive vibes. I also suggest checking out Mr. Ban over at Robin Palmer3, they do excellent work there too. Try a trial session at a few different places; you'll figure it out for yourself. 👍
