Back home, nobody really touched the sweets. We had a Swedish buffet setup, and everyone just went straight for the savory stuff. There were only about four trays of desserts for the 150 people hanging out in the backyard. Inside the hall, we had 17 tables, and there was roughly 1.5kg of dessert on every single table. A ton of it was left over, so we basically handed it out to whoever wanted it later (there were 180 people inside). As people were leaving the restaurant, we gave out little boxes per family or couple—maybe 10 pieces in each box. I guess we probably provided more than enough for the whole crew.
So I've started thinking about juice too. Honestly, I'm torn. Sugar is getting crazy expensive, and nobody in my house really drinks much of it anyway—I usually have a bottle sitting there for like a month or two before it's gone. I could probably just buy it for that price, and it’s definitely not worth the effort to make it myself. But man... when it tastes that good... 😢
Jeffrey Walker3 said:I was just asking my girls, but back home in the States, whenever you're invited over, you usually bring some coffee or cookies so you aren't showing up empty-handed... 🤷 there's no booze involved unless the hosts happen to be serving it 😁
man, that sounds expensive. bringing stuff to 100 different houses? 😲
Around here, people don't even bother bringing individual cups. Like, nobody brings water for anyone, but everyone's got plenty of whiskey to go around. It’s kind of the whole vibe—the entire wedding party sharing from one single bottle.
It isn't exactly hygienic, I guess, but what can you do? 🤣
frozenangler87 said:Yeah, totally... it feels like there’s always twice as much red being poured compared to white. At least, that’s how it looked in every guide I ever read. Especially out in the Midwest! Most people just stick to the reds (even though I'm more of a white wine girl myself, I guess)! And honestly, when I really think about it, I rarely see anyone around me sipping on white! Everyone just goes straight for the red. They say white is mostly just a thing down in California!
😲 I don't know a single person who drinks red wine 🤷 around here it's strictly white; you might see some red if someone's got a homemade batch 😕
Anyway, over here we talk about industry standards, so you might want to do some digging
frozenangler87 said:Hmm... For about 160 people: - Red wine - 26 gallons - White wine - 13 gallons - Coca-Cola - 21 gallons - Fanta - 10 gallons - Sparkling water - 1 bottle per person - Juice - 10 gallons + some apple juice - Tonic water - 1 quart - Whiskey - 1 quart - Hunter - 1.3 gallons - Homemade moonshine - 1 quart
I guess I put down way more than what's actually needed. A lot of this stuff will probably be left over, so if you're grabbing it from somewhere like Costco, maybe you can just return whatever isn't used.
And money... mmhmm... My dear brother got married about three and a half months ago, and they spent like $7,000 $0.00 on a crowd of 550 people.
It really depends, I suppose, on what kind of crowd shows up to the wedding. Like, the venue owner told us that if we have a younger group, they'll definitely go through more Hunter, otherwise, not so much. So, I think it's better to just get extra and then return the leftovers.
If anyone else has their own standard list, it would be awesome if you could share it. This is just what I usually do!
More red than white?? I highly doubt that ever happens at a Midwest wedding🙂 And for us, almost none of the Hunter or other hard stuff even moved. We had bottles of local peach brandy and walnut liqueur out on the tables, and those were the things that actually flew.
frozenangler87 said:Is it even worth driving all the way to Canada or Canada to shop, though? I mean, once you factor in the cost of gas... 🤷 I feel like it might make sense if you live right near the border! But even then, for people living a bit further out... 🤷
Why don't you guys just order stuff on eBay? They have everything. Someone was asking about the local flea markets, but I seriously doubt those are worth it. 🤷
edit: here's a decent seller, seems like they carry pretty much everything.
Angela Ross3 said:Hey everyone, just wanted to show off a little bit—here’s a look at our restaurant 😍 though we’re planning on doing round tables, which will end up taking up about half the floor space.
Angela Ross3 said:So, did the shopping trip actually pan out?
sort of... I found most of the stores, plus a few extra, but my mother-in-law didn't really find anything she wanted 🤷 but hey, my husband picked up a shirt, so that's the main thing 😁 thanks a ton for the help 😘
Bryan Gomez90, I've got a few different chocolate ideas floating around. One's a chocolate-vanilla parfait with peaches, another is chocolate with cherries, and then there's a milk chocolate and dark chocolate combo. Not really sure which one hits the spot. 🤷 We were leaning towards something chocolatey... 🙂
