What are your thoughts on Natasha Kampusch? in Psychology ·
John Hill said:When she was first taken, I guess it’s possible she was terrified of him at first, but it wouldn't be surprising if she eventually formed some kind of bond. In a really twisted way, he might have given her the kind of attention she wasn't getting from her parents, and maybe she even felt a sense of power over him. It seems like they just fell into this sick cycle of codependency—one that she luckily managed to break once she grew up, though I suppose he couldn't handle being left behind, which is why he ended his own life.

I’m leaning toward Narcissistic Personality Disorder myself.

That’s honestly what I caught during the interview. It didn't feel like actual trauma to me—just really bad acting. You know, the fake tears, the coughing fits, clutching the tissue... it felt staged.

If she has a history of any kind of personality disorder, it would explain everything. It’s the only thing that makes sense regarding why all this is happening. No matter how you look at it.

Maybe just stop overthinking it...

Dr. Marton ++ (Auntie)

You can give Marton a massive X from me right now.😁

She gave me a wrong diagnosis (for a tumor), traumatized me for life, and almost sent me into a completely useless surgery :2up: And all this happened when I was just 18 years old.🙄

I heard later on that she’s known more as a decent businesswoman than a competent gynecologist.

Maybe just steer clear of this incompetent woman entirely.🙏 🙏 😁

People who dabble (like I used to) are mostly just consumers.

😬 👍

I never thought I’d actually say this, but I think I want to become a full-time smoker.🙂 🙂

Getting over it... I guess I agree with you, but you have to realize there’s a process. There are four stages everyone goes through when dealing with loss. But what happens if you get stuck on the third one? If you don't move past it, you're basically just standing still. Does that count as nothing?

It’s either you adapt or you just spiral.😁 (I mean, sure, some things pass, but those are just the small stuff. In my book, the big things never really go away.)

Maybe it's a mix of both—partially adapting while partially spiraling.🤣

But how would you describe the progression then, if you don't see it my way? You think it's strictly one or the other, right?😁

cosmicridge5 said:That’s not really true (if I recall correctly). NOBODY—and I mean absolutely nobody—can get used to pain... or this kind of sadness. Not one person.

I guess you could say I've become "used to" bad things always happening to me, or to crying every single night. But once you have to go through that whole "process" all over again and relive that specific pain... it never gets easier.

But what did I actually mean by "getting used to it"?

I wasn't suggesting you get used to it to the point where it doesn't affect you anymore... I just meant you get used to the idea that it doesn't paralyze you. You learn to live alongside it.😁

To me, "getting over it" would mean becoming indifferent to it, in a way. Getting used to it, though, means it's still there, it's just that instead of having its hands around your throat, maybe it's just, I don't know, sitting on your shoulders.

Not really. They just get used to it.
You learn how to function again, I guess.
It’s more like this weird, half-twisted symbiosis you develop with your own grief. 🙂 😁

But getting over it? As in, the pain actually stops? Yeah, right. Give me a break.

Humans are incredibly good at "getting used to things"... I suppose that's our spectacular curse and our spectacular blessing all wrapped into one.

Too bad we aren't quite as spectacularly gifted when it comes to being wise. 🙄
My first month at the gym! in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I haven't given up smoking yet, 😬 though I have been contemplating hitting the gym for a few months now. 😁

I’m not really looking to bulk up or anything; I just want to stay toned and maybe improve my cardio. Is twice a week enough for that? And what kind of exercises am I actually looking at?

Or would I be better off just buying an exercise bike for my apartment? 😁
Beauty capsules? in Health ·
urbanwalker6 said:Has anyone actually heard of these, or better yet, actually bought them?

They supposedly neutralize free radicals, which helps prevent premature aging.

Those beauty capsules🤣 🤣

Merkel makes some antioxidants, and from what I've gathered, they're a pretty decent company...

As for those beauty capsules, I haven't heard of them and don't use them myself.😁
Loacker wafers🙂

I guess my favorite chocolate crumbs are those ones from Grisson, if that’s even the right name... I think they have them at the gas station on Fifth Avenue.😳

John Price said:How much is it actually interfering with his daily life? I mean, is the interference just him fudging the numbers so he doesn't get fired the second his boss realizes what's going on?

Not really 😬 I guess most people on this forum would be out of a job if their bosses found out they were spending more time here than actually working 😁 😁 But then again, we're all pretty dependent on 'this' 😳

Jokes aside, if he's glued to adult sites all day and grabbing every chance to look, then yeah, that's pretty pathetic. I get it, and I think it would bother me too 😁

But you don't fix that by just cutting off the home internet 😁, you have to address the root cause, not just the symptom...

Anyway, have you guys actually talked about this? Like, without the hysteria, just a friendly chat? What’s his take on the whole situation? 🙂

John Price said:At what point does watching porn stop being just entertainment and start becoming an addiction? Is there actually a line?

That’s why I was asking you to be more specific about where that threshold lies.😁 I mean, is someone spending most of their day on it to the point where they can't function normally? What does that actually look like?😁
Sexual Dysfunction Discussions in Psychology ·
But 😁 I mean, if they're already acting out like that while sitting in a library, then they definitely have a real issue 🤣

Honestly, I don't think I fully grasp this whole situation... Watching porn or getting turned on by it is pretty much standard behavior, nothing to stress about, but if someone is doing that for ten hours a day, then we're probably looking at an addiction 😁 Could you explain a bit more? 🙂
Why do I have a fever? in Health ·
My baseline "operating temperature" has always been a bit higher than average—usually sitting somewhere between 98.2 and 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. To make things more interesting, I tend to spike up to about 99.0 or 99.1 at least once a week. 😬

Doctors have basically told me that this is just how I'm wired; I guess I'm just more sensitive to everything. My body seems to react to any little thing with a slight fever, whether it's stress, nerves, exhaustion, or just being in a bad mood... 😬

But honestly, it’s always been this way. Even right now, I feel like I'm hovering around 98.8 or 98.9. 😁

Why are you even looking at me like that? I don't have HPV.😁 😁 😁

Or have they all been cut into those super wide, oversized versions now? Maybe I just missed it. 😢

Why specifically 501? I guess there might be some reason behind it, maybe? 😁 Maybe give the Levi's 507s a shot. I guess the men's version is actually pretty decent—they feel almost entirely normal. 😁
