neonraven95 said:That’s a fair point, and there is certainly some truth to what you’re saying. Still, I find myself leaning more toward the EVGA GTX 1070 FTW. What’s your take on that one?

It's all basically the same crap in different boxes. One might have a better heatsink, another might push slightly higher clocks, depends on what you're hunting for.
Differences will probably just be a few FPS.
neonraven95 said:I believe I have a solid foundation here for my upcoming build. To me, the processor isn't the absolute star of the show—it just needs to be powerful enough to ensure I'm not bottlenecking the GPU. I'm considering an i5-12600K; from what I gather, that chip should be capable of carrying me through another two or three generations of graphics cards without breaking a sweat.

The 1070 is plenty capable. Pairing it with a 5820k gives you a decent path for upgrades later. Since games are getting more CPU-heavy, those 6 cores are a much smarter investment than jumping from a 1070 to an RTX 3080.

Here’s how I’d do it:

1 x MSI X570 Motherboard
1 x INTEL Core i7-5820K (3.30GHz,1.5MB,15MB,140 W,2011-3) Box, N/A
1 x EVGA GTX 1070 FTW, 8GB GDDR5
1 x Zalman Z3+, 4x120mm, USB3.0 black
1 x Fortron Raider S 550W, 80+ SILVER - 60mj.
4 x Kingston 4GB 2400MHz DDR4 CL15 DIMM HyperX Black Fury, EAN: 740617244335
1 x Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD, 64MB, 7200rpm, High-Performance
1 x SanDisk Ultra II 240GB SSD, 2.5” 7mm, SATA 6 Gbit/s, Read/Write: 550 MB/s / 500 MB/s, Random Read/Write IOPS 91K/83K, retail
1 x Cooler SCYTHE Ninja 4 SCNJ-4000

Nah, the issue is you clearly don't get it—delivery isn't free at those stores you listed above $667. You've only got one shop there that hits your threshold... which means you're still paying shipping at the other four.
Check your facts before you start talking nonsense...

If you have the time and actually enjoy building things yourself, I'd say go for these parts at that price point—assuming you aren't planning on overclocking the processor.

Plus, I'd be stuck paying four separate shipping fees.👎

PC build - Centro

It hits the full budget. Even the 1060 option isn't bad, but honestly, everything should run smooth at 1080p and 1440p.😁

You can grab everything you need right here without any hassle, especially since your drives are fine and don't need swapping.

Prices aren't even that different from what you'd see elsewhere, and the real perk is the warranty. If something breaks, you deal with the local shop instead of fighting some massive corporation overseas. My advice? Just buy it in the US. 🙂

Totally possible.

Prices for the RX 470 need to drop significantly... honestly, they aren't even worth two bucks at this point... at least for me..

If you're stuck with a monitor that only has a DVI port. 👍
If you don't have one, just grab an adapter and call it a day. 👍

Timothy Kim60 said:We’ve been through this already. MSRP doesn't cover tax, and then you've got extra overhead—currency conversion, retailer margins, shipping, whatever. We can't just look at US prices and add 7% because our sales tax is higher than what they deal with in Germany. You only have a reason to complain if it's significantly above that. Anyone expecting a GTX 1050 Ti for $180 here was dreaming. I was looking for 380x level pricing, and that’s basically what we're seeing, even with the hype. A PowerColor Red Devil goes for 219 euros in Germany, so expect to see something around $600 locally at launch. Eventually, it'll probably drop by 100-$67

So maybe $1500-$533 is actually a realistic price for a GTX 1050

analogtiger19 said:I get it, demand is high and supply is low, but $260 for a GTX 1050 Ti? That should be a sub-$200 card. Or $375 for a GTX 1060 when it belongs at $270? Give me a break. That math just doesn't add up. 😂 😂 😬

You can't compare prices like that between America and Europe.
Electronics are generally cheaper over there. I don't know how their import laws work or what the shipping costs look like.
Europe gets screwed over here. Between all the different markups and taxes, the price stays high. You have to factor that in.

And don't even get me started on those poor Australians 🕺

Timothy Kim60 said:It’s always the same story with new GPUs. The 380X was sitting at $350 when it dropped, the GTX 1050 cost as much as—if not more than—the GTX 960 back then, and the GTX 650 $433 too. Buying in the first few weeks is usually a sucker move because of the markup, but if you need one right now, there isn't a better option anyway, so you can't really get ripped off.

$27 It's pricier than Best Buy. If we look at how things work in Germany, Nitro models are more expensive than ASUS, EVGA, or PowerColor, so they might actually end up being cheaper here.

Exactly. That GTX 650 was $433 at launch, but I picked mine up about six months later for $330 😁

Don't take my word for it, but I think I saw some article yesterday suggesting you should just hold off on buying any AMD cards for about a month or so until things settle down. Prices for the GTX 1050 Ti might even drop to $500.

This link breaks down the differences if you're interested. If you want to dig deeper, just Google the LGA 2011-3 socket and what it was actually designed for...

Hold on. You seriously think I, or anyone here who actually touches hardware, doesn't know the difference?
give me a break...

I'm just saying an i7 6700K isn't strictly for gaming. It handles heavy lifting just fine.
look at Dimitri from Hardware Canucks—he's proof that a setup like this can crush rendering jobs without breaking a sweat.

I'd probably go with a 750 W unit plus a GTX 1070—basically like crimsonstag84's build

You don't need a 750W power supply
unless you're planning to slap a second 1070 in there later.

Jeffrey Allen92, quit talking trash. Both of my builds are solid workstations meant for actual work, not just gaming.

I've been playing around with this setup—what do you guys think?
Is everything here compatible, and do you think I can actually upgrade this thing in about 6 years??
Is this build built to last?
The main goal is running After Effects and handling some rendering work
So, I'm looking at 32 GB RAM, an 8 GB GPU, and an Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4 GHz
Can I get something better for this kind of cash—around $1,300 to $1,500?
(Based on prices at Best Buy)

The more complex the build, the better it performs—and you can find cheaper deals through crimsonstag84 or even me. If you're playing the long game, grab the crimsonstag84 konfa plus a GTX 1070.

As for upgrading, who knows who'll still be around in 6 years? By then, today's standards will probably be ancient history anyway.

You don't even need that motherboard; the one in crimsonstag84's build is plenty.

Besides, I put this build together specifically because the OP asked for Skylake paired with an Nvidia card...
even though, let's be real, the processor in crimsonstag84's setup is definitely more powerful.

Got one stick of 8GB Kingston DDR4 2400MHz HyperX Predator RAM here. It's actually a 2x4 setup.
One Asus H110M-C mATX motherboard. It’s got the s1151 socket, USB 3.0, SATA III, LAN, and DDR4. Simple enough.
One Palit GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, 6GB DDR5, with DVI, HDMI, and DP ports.
One Fortron Aurum S 400W, 80+ Gold power supply.
One INTER-TECH PCD-01 Black Midi Tower chassis, ATX spec, comes with 2xUSB3.0 and HD-audio. PSU isn't included.
One Dell UltraSharp U2414H 24-Inch monitor. It’s got an FHD resolution, IPS Antiglare screen, 8ms response time, 2x HDMI, DisplayPort 1.2, and a Mini DisplayPort. Standard 16:9 aspect ratio.

Alright, Zero's put this together much better. These components are actually decent now... Ideally, you'd throw an ADATA SP550 240GB SSD in there to round it out.

How is that even better? You basically built the exact same setup as crimsonstag84 and me. All you did was swap out the motherboard, the case, and the power supply. It's the same damn combo.
And they said you wouldn't need extra drives, yet you ended up building something more expensive than both of them combined...

How many drives are we talking? The board has 4xSATA, so don't go too light... as for the monitor, I don't see the point in paying $667 extra for a 24" IPS unless it's some top-tier beast. This one $533 is fine, and it's hard to see any real-world difference
