Gary Barrett said:Hey guys, looking to do some upgrades soon. What should I go with? $500 Mostly using this rig for gaming.

Asrock AM4
Intel Core i3-4130.
Crucial DDR3 4GB 1333MHz, JM1333KLH-4G, bulk
NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti with EVGA Power Supply.
Corsair CX Series 430W, 80+ Bronze, ATX, EPS12V, PS/2, US version.
US version WD Blue HDD desktop (3.5", 1TB)

Thinking about a new CPU and a RAM upgrade.

Don't hold your breath trying to find a meaningful CPU upgrade on this platform. Once you start looking at anything actually powerful, the price jump makes it a total waste of money compared to what you're running now.
What's up? $500 Needs a new platform, something like this:

One Gigabyte 970, AM4 socket, AMD 970 chipset, supports 4 slots of Crucial DDR3 up to 2000 (O.C.)/1866.
One Intel Core i5-3570, 3.5GHz, 14MB, 95W, AM4.
One Spire Kepler Rev.2 cooler. Fits 1156/775/AM4 sockets. Dimensions are 96.5×51×125 mm with a 92mm fan.

I'm looking to pick up a decent gaming rig, budget is around $3000-$1167(just the tower)
.
I'm based out of San Francisco, so if you could drop some LinkedIn posts for local shops or specific parts, that would be awesome.

Thanks!

If you pay cash, you can usually haggle much better than you can on LinkedIn.

I've been using Genius gear for years. Owned everything from their budget stuff to the high-end models. For the price tag, they're solid. They don't die on you. No complaints here.

Zachary Bishop11 said:I think that second build from amazon.com that crimsonstag84 posted is the best fit for me. I’d just swap the memory with the stuff from the first build (that one's better, right?). So, the final setup would look like this:

HyperX Fury Black Series RAM
AMD FX-8300
AMD FX-8300 GIGABYTE Motherboard Desktop
EVGA 450W Power Supply
Cooler Master Gammaxx 200
Intel 1150 Socket H81 case without PSU

+ my own GPU and HDD

MSI R7 250 GDDR5 1GB/128bit
Western Digital 320GB HDD

Can someone just double-check if this works before I pull the trigger? 🙂

👍 Just buy it while they still have stock 😁
Can't get Windows XP to install in Hardware ·
swiftskipper3 said:Hey there!
I've got an HP Mini 200 - 4200 SM PC running Windows 7. It's painfully slow because the hardware is weak and I'm stuck with just 1 GB of RAM. I tried switching to Windows XP, which would definitely run better, but most HP stations only have drivers for Windows 7 and up now. Regardless, the main issue is that I can't get XP installed. I tried injecting the AHCI driver using nLite and via a USB floppy drive by hitting F6 at the start of the install, but no luck. It recognizes the driver and starts pulling from the floppy, but once it hits the part where you accept the license and hit F8, it just freezes. It won't show any hard drives. It just sits there. ESC does nothing...
I went through a mountain of drivers and ended up sticking with the NM10 one.
If anyone knows how to actually get XP onto an HP Mini, please help me out.

Thanks in advance!

Why not just max out the RAM to 2GB?

FX 6300 Build

Everything is top-tier, zero compromises here... the only spot I cut corners was on the peripherals—just a basic keyboard and mouse—but the monitor is still an IPS panel. Everything else is solid. 🎉

Price $2008 as listed above. Since it's local to Washington, D.C., you can just swing by the branch and there won't be any extra fees or interest.

Installment plans with zero fees or interest at the branch:

Diners Club (2 to 12 installments) - minimum amount $333
American Express (2 to 12 installments)
Maestro/Visa Banknote PBZ (3 to 6 installments)
Maestro ZABA (2 to 12 installments)
Mastercard ZABA (up to 6 installments)

And that Gigabyte one at Best Buy has a 3-year warranty too 😁, but it's just a low profile card 😁.

Let him focus on working hard and making money with this setup, and hopefully, the company will make an effort to provide an employee like him with a brand-new computer in four or five years! ;-)

p.s.—The admin handles the hardware configurations; I’m trying to dig up that specific info online, but I can't find a definitive answer, so I won't spread any misinformation...

Hey admin, when I go to checkout, there's an option right above $667 free assembly and shipping 👍 showing up.

redmason12 said:Hey, I'm dropping this here so I don't clutter up the forum with a whole new thread, but I really need some help figuring out a PC upgrade for gaming. My budget is sitting around $3,500-$1333, and I'm planning on hanging onto a few things from my old rig—specifically the case, my Chieftec Smart 550w power supply, 4GB of RAM, and a 500GB HDD. So, here's what I'm thinking: maybe grab an R9 270 x or an R9280 for the graphics? For the CPU, should I go with an AMD x8 8320 or an AMD x6 6300? Plus, I definitely need another 4GB of RAM. Also, if anyone knows a solid motherboard that can actually handle all that together, please let me know! But honestly, if there are better ways to spend my money or different parts entirely, I'm totally open to suggestions. Any advice at all would be huge!

I'd swap the power supply too. Keep the case, the HDD, and those 4GB of RAM,

Go with something like this:
1 x Gigabyte 970A-DS3P, AM3+, AMD 970 SB950, 4x DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866
1 x Procesor AMD FX-Series X8 8300 3.3GHz,16MB,125W,AM3+, FD8300WMHK
1 x DDR3 4GB (1x4GB) Kingston, 1600MHz, CL11, Value
1 x XFX R9-280A-TDFD, Double Dissipation Edition Radeon R9 280 933M
1 x Napajanje Fortron 500W, Hyper, PPA5005003, 12cm ventilator
1 x Spire Kepler Rev.2 ,hladnjak, 1156/775/FM1, 96.5×51×125 mm ,92mm

This one? Needs at least a 750w PSU :/

EDIT: if I'm stuck using a CX500, I'd rather just grab that one from Best Buy🙂

The rig will probably pull maybe 350W max👍 assuming you aren't overclocking😁.

Adam Moore3 said:I’d definitely grab the R9 280 over that Nvidia card. It’s faster and only costs about five bucks more. Honestly, I don't see the point of that GPU at all, especially here in the States where it's priced at $533. The R9 280 already owns that spot and it outperforms the 950. Maybe they call it a "card for A>" just to bait some suckers. Give me a break... ☕

Where did you even find the 280 listed $567 😳?

Kenneth Jackson3 said:Taking some advice from the guys here, I decided to wait until fall to grab a new GPU. My current rig is

Intel 8350
N/A
N/A
N/A
8 GB RAM

Is it worth jumping from my N/A to a N/A ( http://www.bestbuy.com/product_info.php?products_id=17026) ?
It’s the one I’m looking at because the performance looks solid for the price, plus I won't have to swap out my power supply yet. (I can't afford a better card and a new PSU at the same time)
I play at 1080p. I just need to be able to run N/A and N/A on medium or high settings at that resolution.

Thanks!

Solid card. Definitely an upgrade over the N/A. 😁
It’s a little weaker than the N/A, but perfect for 1080p.👍

If you want to stick with Intel, you could look at:
the 270x or 370, but those pull way more power.😳
