Honestly, I doubt you'll find a better build than what crimsonstag84 put together for you. 😳

Check if you forgot to peel the plastic film off the bottom where it touches the chip. It’s also possible the cooler isn't seated right.

Susan Anderson said:My build:

AMD Phenom x4 945 at 3.0GHz
Gigabyte 880 GA-UD3H AM3 4
4GB RAM at 1333MHz (planning to add another 4GB)
650W XFX PSU
Radeon 5850 (been running this thing for six years now)

So, besides the RAM, I want to grab a new GPU.
Could my rig handle a GTX 750 ti 2?

Yeah, it would. That card barely pulls 60W... but you'd be trading a stallion for a donkey. That card is actually weaker than what you've got.

Ryan Hayes82 said:Why stick to 4GB? RAM prices have tanked lately, so 8GB should be the baseline for any build under $1333

I didn't want to blow my $1667 budget. Adding another 4GB puts me about $33 over.

If you're paying cash, it doesn't matter where you shop. I'd rather just grab a rig in Chicago; you get free shipping and assembly if you spend over $667.

Honestly, better to just save up a bit more $167 and grab a decent quad-core instead. Why even bother with a dual-core? It doesn't have hyperthreading, so it’s going to be a massive bottleneck in games since everything is moving toward requiring four cores anyway.

It makes zero sense to have such a tight budget and blow a third of it on a GPU, leaving you struggling to put together anything that actually runs properly.
Plus, when you want to upgrade later, you'll end up replacing half the rig...

this one is from Newegg

total: $939 and honestly, it won't perform any better than this

If you're in the NYC area, just go to Micro Center and buy it in person... shipping from Newegg will cost you a few bucks anyway.

It might be worth it if you can stretch for those extra $33 because I guess it makes a noticeable difference for the GPU.

I already told you in your DMs—if you want to build a rig that actually handles high settings, half that budget you're looking at is plenty. Anything more is just throwing money away.
Aim for $700-$800 for the setup, grab a decent monitor, and call it a day.

coastalowl58 said:Alright, what are you guys recommending for a case under $250?$117
My main priority is having USB ports and a headphone jack right on the front panel..
From what I've gathered, this recommended MS Taurus has them..but it’s missing a dust filter, which is a huge deal for me. I need that protection.

If you guys are seriously insisting that it's worth splurging on something higher quality, I can stretch my budget by another $20 or so..

In that price range, go with the Zalman Z1 or Z3👍

I can't stand cheap motherboards. Putting a high-end CPU on a budget board is just asking for trouble, even if you aren't planning on overclocking🕺
