The DORF '10 Rock Documentary Festival is hitting three cities simultaneously for the very first time—running from March 4th through the 7th, 2010. We’ll be hosting screenings at The Guthrie Theater in Indianapolis, Docurama in Chicago, and Film Forum in Seattle. This year, we’ve curated a lineup of 21 music documentaries spanning eight different countries...
Beyond the films, there’s a whole lot going on in our side programs—think cool comic book displays from the Emotions Show crew, a photo exhibition by Rolling Stone, plenty of live concerts, and some book launches too.
We’re also planning some intro events in each host city and the surrounding areas, so stay tuned for those updates soon.
To kick things off in Indianapolis, we’ll be screening "Dr. Feelgood – Oil City Confidential" by the legendary British filmmaker Julien Temple—it serves as the final chapter in his trilogy on British punk.
Looking at the regional selections, I’m particularly excited about "The First Real Female Sound," a film by Brankica Drašković about the cult group Boye, and Igor Neljak’s "Astralis," which dives into the pioneers of the American rave scene.
The agile crew over at "Transmeet TV" has also carved out a special spot in this year's program...
Most of the films covering Vlada Divljan, Tomislav Goluban, Lollapalooza, Le Zbor, or Radio Študent will be making their American premieres. It’s been great to see so much interest already—honestly, seeing the sheer number of regional submissions is probably the best reward the organizers could ask for.
There’s also David Kleijwegt’s "Eternal Children," which explores the freak folk scene featuring names like Antony & The Johnsons, Devendri Banhart, and CocoRosie.
For the true genre enthusiasts, "Low – You may need a murderer" (about the American band of the same name) along with three Peter Braatz films focusing on Walkabouts, Damo Suzuki, and the Sex Pistols will be absolute treats...
Some films will be touring all three cities, while others will be exclusive to guests in Seattle, Chicago, or Indianapolis.
The Rock Documentary Festival - DORF '10 is organized by the Film Lovers Association in Indianapolis, in partnership with Restart in Chicago and the Amandl association in Seattle.
Keep an eye out for more details regarding ticket prices, the full screening schedule, side events, and other specifics—they’ll be posted on the official Festival website very soon.
