neonhound32 said:Aha. We’ve reached the stage where you can't find ways to praise your own cinematic tastes, so you resort to chauvinistic tropes and insults.
Has anyone ever told you that doing this just makes you look pathetic?😉

Hot Fuzz is a mediocre film consisting entirely of hollow jokes and mindless humor. Everything is predictable. Therefore, the way they market it—as a comedy—already fails.
The plot is unconvincing and dull. The protagonist is a cop who is perfect by every possible standard (where else does that exist besides movies? It's a tired cliché) and then he gets transferred to a tiny town where everything is perfectly peaceful and orderly (more clichés, please), while behind the scenes, the whole village has actually gone insane. (???) Come on. 🤣 It couldn't be less imaginative if it tried.

It was all shot in completely uninteresting locations. You see nothing new in the film. It isn't educational in any conceivable way, and all you get from it is an hour and a half of wasted life that you could have used SO much better elsewhere.

And yet, you still claim women don't understand cinema. I have written reviews for film scores and motion pictures, which alone puts me ahead of you. Be careful about acting superior next time.

Jerk.

It’s hardly my fault there aren't any Hollywood heartthrobs in this one for you to obsess over.
Nobody is claiming it's some cinematic masterpiece—it's just fun, which is exactly what a comedy should be. Though, perhaps I'm biased... I've always had a soft spot for that dry, witty sense of humor.

As for the setting being "boring"—the story takes place in a small American town. It wouldn't exactly make sense if the Grand Canyon or the Pyramids were looming in the background, would it?
Not educational? Well, if you're looking for a lecture, go watch a documentary or maybe an old sitcom. Honestly, those two critiques just prove my point...

And unlike you, I haven't insulted anyone. But since you're determined to label me a chauvinist or a jerk regardless of what I say, I'll give you a taste of your own medicine: stay in the kitchen 😁 and if you consider yourself such a "professional critic," maybe stick to those glossy romances with Leonardo DiCaprio, Julia Stiles, and the rest—your supposed icons of acting and comedy.

Anyway, bye. 🙂

Sure, and men watched Transformers just for the deep, complex plot. 🙄

Just a general thought:

😬

We watched Baywatch for those exact same reasons, yet we still called it trash. 😎

Women cling to movies the way a dictator clings to democracy 🤣—which explains why we lack female directors and critics.

To them, a masterpiece is defined solely by how attractive the cast is.
I recall one "critic" (likely the only one left on Earth) in an American paper who trashed "The Godfather" while giving a perfect score to some melodrama starring Di Caprio 🤣

🙄

A psychological drama? If we're calling this a psychological drama, then "Jackass" must be a political documentary... 😁
My issue isn't the genre—it's that I expected a quality Film, but what I actually got was just more cliché Hollywood trash. 😉

Lisa Harris2 said:I can't agree with you guys on this being "typical American trash." Honestly? It was the exact opposite. For me, this movie was a total breath of fresh air after way too long.
I had zero clue what the plot was even about before sitting down, but seeing Kevin Costner was enough motivation 😍 and I was genuinely surprised. The only weak spot, in my opinion, was that loud, overly naive shootout in the hallway—it left my ears ringing for the rest of the film. Otherwise, nothing but praise. Oh, and Demi Moore? Total letdown. Her acting was pretty terrible! 🙂

P.S. I spent the whole time just waiting for Marg Helgenberger to crush the case in two seconds flat! 😬

Costner 👍 👍
Cook 👍 👍
Moore 👎

Later!

The only way that flick could be a "breath of fresh air" is if you just finished an all-night marathon of Jacob Sedlar films.

A massive disappointment...
I was really hoping for a solid thriller—instead, it turned out even worse than the generic stuff being churned out in Hollywood lately.

hollowsailor19 said:What’s everyone else’s take? In my opinion, they aren't even the worst—I mean, we can all agree
that those two definitely don't hold a candle to what should have won. Personally, I think
the wins were totally undeserved compared to the other heavy hitters (Se7en, The Usual Suspects)—which, if you ask me,
are much better films.

Don't even get me started on Rocky. 😬

Some of the worst Oscar winners that come to mind: The English Patient, Chicago, Titanic, The Departed, Shakespeare in Love, and so on...

Braveheart definitely doesn't belong on that list.

Really solid film—it actually reminds me quite a bit of Training Day (same writer)... Christian Bale is in the lead role. I think it just hit the shelves at Best Buy here...

Take a look at "Panic in Needle Park"—it’s one of Pacino's earliest films... really foundational stuff.

Bravo—you've summed it up perfectly. 🤣
By my definition, "trash" describes a total disaster of a movie... unless you view it as a great way to have a laugh. 😎
