I’m probably gonna have a few drinks before the show starts, so I might just totally blank on going altogether... 😈 ☕

I'm a fan of pretty much everything mentioned here, but I just remembered my absolute favorite—though, honestly, it’s got nothing to do with rock music at all...

Mari Boine and Jan Garbarek - Evening Land

Honestly, pretty much everything I love fits that description. 🙈

Alright, let me throw some out there, just off the top of my head...

Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (on a side note, does anyone know how to find that riff for a cell phone? I don't have a clue about those ringtones, like, what do I even search for?)
Dire Straits - Telegraph Road
Loggins & Messina - Pathway To Glory (it's actually only 8:37, but it's killer, so I'm keeping it on the list)
Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Uriah Heep - July Morning
Neil Young - Change Your Mind
Neil Young - Cowgirl In The Sand
Kraftwerk - Autobahn
Tangerine Dream - where do I even start with them?...
Drago Mlinarec - Helena lijepa i ja na kiši
Drago Mlinarec - Child Star (not 100% sure on the title, but it should be close)

and plenty more besides

Honestly, best summary of this whole debate I've ever seen. Especially that last sentence... 🤣

There’s an insane amount of great new music out there right now—probably more than ever before—mostly because tech makes it so easy for anyone to record stuff.
But yeah, we aren't seeing brand new genres popping up, just a bunch of eclectic mashups of the old stuff. Or movements, I guess.
Honestly, this is the perfect era if you just love music for the sake of hearing it. (And look, I get why people are getting all worked up over this debate)
It sucks for people who need to feel like they belong to a specific scene or a movement, though.
Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...
Probably bad, since everything starts feeling a bit diluted and loses its edge.
Or maybe not. Who knows.
I'd honestly rather just grab a drink or light up and stop overthinking it...

ruggedcrane22 said:Most kids today would probably rather listen to some gritty garage band from the sixties or seventies than whatever garbage they’re being fed right now.

I'm with you on the rest of your point, but I gotta disagree on this one. Sure, there's a generational gap, but honestly? Modern bands actually have the edge with kids. That said, the old-school legends still stick around—mostly because major labels like Sony or Universal find it way cheaper to just push out "greatest hits" reissues instead of actually putting money into promoting new talent...

There’s no real movement or revolution happening because there isn't a single viable, catchy alternative to this broken system... 😢
Communism is dead, along with every ideal it ever stood for—it’s just a rotting corpse at this point.
The only thing even remotely tempting for people looking for an out is, unfortunately, religion.
And that whole scene and its followers are seeing a massive surge right now.
To actually build a movement, to stage a revolt against anything, you have to actually believe in something else, something different.
But that kind of belief is totally lost in this cynical era we're living in.
Pure hedonism is basically the social norm now, which is exactly what killed acid house.
Punk actually meant something because it was born during a time when an alternative still felt possible.
Just like the hippie movement did.

I mean, since there are plenty of girls who go crazy for older guys, and I haven't heard of anyone being turned on by some middle-aged dude... 😬 maybe work on your image and watch your mouth...

Give me a break, kid. What do you little amateurs actually know about this stuff? You should just shut up and listen to us old-timers while we explain how things used to be... 😬

Kids these days have zero respect, man. Seriously. :shocking:

Back in the day, you actually had to go out and buy a record, or at least borrow one from a friend. You’d end up listening to it over and over again—even if you hated it at first—just because you didn't want to feel like you wasted your money. Eventually, the music would just... click. Nowadays, you just toss an album straight into the digital recycle bin if it doesn't grab you immediately. It totally kills any chance for anything that isn't an instant hit. If I’d grown up with that kind of mindset, I probably would have never given Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, or a ton of other legends a fair shake...

Nicholas King62 said:I mean, what even counts as rock anymore?

To me, "rock" isn't really a musical definition. It’s more like a label for an entire artistic era—specifically the second half of the twentieth century.

I mean, you look at Pink Floyd, DNA, or Scott Walker... they're all rock, but musically speaking, how much do they actually have in common? The connection is cultural, not just sonic...
Indie rock recommendations? in Music ·
Honestly, calling something "indie" is just a nonsense concept at this point. It should have stayed strictly as a way to say you aren't signed to a major label, period. But now people try to use it to define a specific sound, which leads to them labeling Depeche Mode as an indie band... and obviously, the die-hard fans can't stand that, so they've started making up all these fake sonic definitions just to justify the term.

Eh. It’s not quite '68, but I guess it isn't half bad either... 😬
