Missing periods: What's your experience? in Women's Health ·
Dear ruggedbadger25,
If you're terrified of hormone therapy, you don't have to take it. There are natural ways to get your cycle back on track.
The go-to is Chasteberry (Vitex agnus castus). It isn't a hormone itself, but it helps regulate your female hormones so they balance out naturally. It can help with amenorrhea, painful periods, PMS, and various menstrual issues—even PCOS, endometriosis, or infertility if the root cause is hormonal imbalance.
In Germany, this is often the first line of defense that doctors recommend for these issues. They don't just rush straight to synthetic hormones like some doctors here in the States do.
Most importantly, Chasteberry is completely safe when you stick to the recommended dosage. You won't deal with nasty side effects, especially not weight gain. It’s easy to manage, too; you just take it once in the morning.
Do a little Googling on this plant. Get informed.

As for the anorexia and the need to put on a few pounds? I second everything my predecessors said.

St. John's Wort definitely works for mild to moderate depression. And it won't get you hooked. I've had great results with it, and plenty of others have too. But the real issue is the dosage.
AktivinaH isn't working because it’s too weak—it simply doesn't have enough hypericin.
To actually hit a therapeutic daily dose, you'd have to take way more than what the label suggests, but then it becomes prohibitively expensive.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the recommended daily intake should be between 0.2 and 2.7 mg of total hypericin. Take a bottle of AktivinaH and calculate your own dose based on how severe your depression is.
If you're drinking it as a tea, you need about 2-4 grams of the dried herb daily.
A tincture is your best bet, and it's much cheaper if you make it yourself.
Keep in mind, the antidepressant effects of St. John's Wort don't kick in for 2 to 4 weeks. Most people give up before they even see the benefits. Such a shame.

Also, St. John's Wort has significant interactions with other medications, specifically other tricyclic antidepressants and MAO inhibitors. In short: never take it if you are already on other antidepressants.
In Germany, St. John's Wort is actually the primary treatment choice for mild to moderate depression in 50% of cases.

Henry Campbell5 said:Spent the last few days hanging out at the beach and now the issues are back. My earplug keeps slipping out and leaking. I actually lost one today... where can I find a better selection of earplugs? Any tips on how to figure out which ones actually fit my ear properly?

If your earplug is falling out, it’s either too large, poor quality, or you simply haven't mastered how to seat it correctly.
How do you find the right fit? There is no shortcut—you have to try several different types. Eventually, you might stumble upon a winner. That happened to me once.

It seems the most effective solution is getting custom-molded earplugs. If you live in a major city (I don't), head to an audiology center that specializes in hearing aids and custom inserts. I've heard they can manufacture plugs tailored specifically to your ear shape. Wouldn't that be the only real way to get it right?
Wounds and their aftermath in Health ·
Aloe vera root is the fastest, most effective way to heal a wound properly. I’ve tested this countless times on myself and my family.
It's common knowledge that aloe contains allantoin, a substance that actively promotes cell regeneration. You just have to be certain there isn't any debris trapped inside the wound and ensure you aren't dealing with an underlying deep-seated infection.

The best method? Apply a fresh paste made by grating the root and simmering it in a bit of water. Alternatively, you can use an aloe macerate, a tincture, a commercial spray from a local pharmacy, or even a powder sourced from a health food store mixed into a paste.

I’m not talking about scuba diving or holding my breath deeper than six feet. Most of the time, I’m just snorkeling near the surface, rarely dipping below two meters.
The real question is: what about decent earplugs?
Ruptured eardrum in Health ·
Chronic middle ear inflammation. It’s been a struggle since I was a kid. Things have mostly stabilized after surgery, but I still have to be incredibly careful. That perforation is a constant worry. I have to make sure absolutely no water gets into my ear. The problem? I’m addicted to the ocean, swimming, and diving.
I want to take this opportunity to ask about your experiences with earplugs. Neither the foam ones nor the silicone types seem to work for me.
I had one pair that worked perfectly once, but I can't remember the brand. All I know is they had four chambers and were quite small, yet they provided a perfect seal.

I’ve been dealing with a perforated eardrum for years now. I actually had surgery on my middle ear, and they supposedly patched the hole, but wouldn't you know it? It's still there.
If you have a perforation, you have to realize there is a constant, direct path into your middle ear—and that is anything but harmless.
Anything can slip through that opening: bacteria, fungi... an infection in the middle ear is almost inevitable.
In a million years, I wouldn't dream of going diving without earplugs. I've been forced to rely on them for years.
Finding high-quality plugs is a struggle, and those silicone ones? They didn't work for me at all.

Bravo. That's basically my daily routine.

The ultimate fat burner is actually lemon juice. Just have two lemons squeezed daily, plus the grated zest from them.
You can definitely take more than the standard dose of Aktivin-h. It isn't going to hurt you; if anything, you'll just feel better. Many psychiatrists actually recommend St. John's Wort for mild to moderate depression. In fact, in Germany, it’s the primary treatment choice for depression in 50% of cases.🙂
When I'm feeling stressed out or struggling to sleep, I prefer Valerian over Persen—it works much better for me. I also take St. John's Wort drops without any fear of it being fatal.😂
Plus, photosensitivity is entirely subjective. You either are sensitive to it or you aren't. Personally, I use St. John's Wort oil even when tanning in the summer and I don't have any reaction at all. That doesn't mean it won't cause issues for someone else, though.😎
Best cough syrup for congestion? in Health ·
Plantain is incredibly effective for soothing a cough. You can find plantain syrup in most local pharmacies if you want something quick. Personally, I just head out to the backyard to gather some fresh plantain and brew my own tea. I usually mix in some thyme and sage, too. It’s an unbeatable combination for tackling colds or the flu...🙂
