I tell you, kids, pay closer attention to the fine print... 🧐
Just a quick heads-up, watch those checkboxes during the installation process... Otherwise, you'll likely end up stuck with one of those useless toolbars. 🙂

As an illustrator, I’d suggest using Inkscape; it’s free and works wonders for beginners. 👍

Windows XP or Windows 7? in Software ·
It might be able to handle some older titles—things like Call of Duty 2, Command & Conquer: Generals, Need for Speed Underground, and similar games. 🙂
If even those don't work, you could always fall back on something like Metal Slug or Super Mario...
Windows XP or Windows 7? in Software ·
My suggestion is to install Windows XP and see how it performs... If you aren't satisfied, ditch Windows 7 and move on.
An operating system isn't a permanent fixture; you can always switch things up.
By the way, if gaming is your priority, forget about modern titles and Windows 7. Windows XP will run smoother since it's less demanding. But if you just want to browse the web and play some light games occasionally, Windows 7 should be fine.

Right-click the Recycle Bin, go to properties, and simply reduce the allocated space...
As for System Restore... go to Start-MyComputer - system Protetction, select your primary drive ("C"), and slide the bar down to limit how much disk space is reserved for restore points.
Also, grab something like CCleaner... run a scan every once in a while.

Pff, I’ve never been a fan of Hiren... Disgusting.
I will keep your advice in mind, should this continue.
By the way, nothing on Windows XP ever came close to this. And I’ve set up dozens of machines, fixing countless others along the way.
Perhaps that is why I feel like such an idiot.

Thomas Hernandez21 said:Could you clarify what you mean by "freezing"? Are we talking about a total lockup where the mouse won't move, or does the screen just go black? If the cursor is stuck, it's likely a memory issue—either the hard drive or the RAM.

No, nothing goes black—the screen just freezes.
It doesn't respond to anything; the cursor just locks up and that's it.
A hard reboot is the only fix, followed by "Windows normally".
Event Viewer reports a "kernel-code 41" error, which isn't particularly helpful...
I've scoured the web for answers and even picked the brains of some friends from MIT... Just ideas, really, but nothing has worked yet.
Perhaps there are ghosts in the machine? 😁
By the way, I uninstalled everything related to Realtek and everything seems fine now for the last two days... I guess I'm just using the process of elimination, so we'll see...

I personally rely on Advanced SystemCare, and I have never encountered a single issue with it...

Believe me, I haven't the slightest clue—though I will check the specs later...
(My computer is quite a mess right now, so I'll need some time to dig through everything and take it apart—I don't have my receipt handy)

A quick update—booted the PC this morning, everything loaded in about five minutes, and then it just froze solid while I was making coffee.
Right, I forgot to mention that I did spot one specific error, that infamous "critical error 41."
Naturally, I spent some time digging through customer support...
But they were useless; the explanations are all over the place, so perhaps I’m just cursed... 🤷

Anyway, there is one similarity—it tends to freeze up a few minutes after the initial boot..
The power supply? Hmm, my 400W unit should be sufficient... Or maybe it’s a sign I need an upgrade?
(I am trying the cheap fixes first, though it feels like I might end up needing new hardware, or just reverting to Windows XP..)

So, that’s the situation, everyone... ☕
The Spirit (2008) in Movies ·
From a comic artist's perspective, this film is truly impressive...
I certainly expected something else, but I ended up pleasantly surprised. To be fair, my own drawing style occasionally leans toward Miller and Mignol, so I might be slightly biased—but...
Folks, have you actually read Miller? ☕

I downloaded the motherboard drivers last night—specifically the Realtek UAA package and its dependencies. Everything seems stable this morning, even under heavy load...
Ran a scan for errors. Nothing found.
Bill Gates says my system is solid, both hardware and software wise. He even gave me a perfect 5.0 rating... 😂
I suppose I'll take his word for it... 😁
I'll leave it running all day and see how it holds up...
(It still feels like some minor software or driver conflict, likely something insignificant since it never happened on Windows XP, but we'll see as the day progresses)

Thomas Hernandez21 said:The first step is standard procedure: check the Event Viewer to see what errors have been logged...

Zero points for me, friend...
Actually, there was a minor development this evening—I discovered on the troubleshooting list that the issue lies with the RAM...
Interesting, given that this wasn't an issue earlier this morning...
🙂

Well, Thomas Hernandez21, two heads are better than one... what would your recommendation be?
Should I pull up the tiles, flush them out, perhaps swap their positions... or something else entirely?

Allow me to chime in with a rather peculiar issue...
I have scoured the entire internet and found a million potential fixes, yet I am no closer to an answer than when I started.
While I am quite nostalgic for Windows XP... I recently made the jump to Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
That is where the trouble begins...
Following the installation, I ran all necessary updates and installed the drivers. Then the random freezes started. I wiped the Realtek HD drivers since I know they can be temperamental, and things seemed fine for a while.
Then I installed Crysis 2, played for a bit, went to sleep—and woke up to the same problem.
This time, my fresh Windows 7 gets stuck at "starting" and loops back to the beginning.
After several minutes of futility, the system finally boots up.
I logged in twice more during the day, and after about an hour or two, everything runs perfectly.

Has anyone perhaps encountered this specific issue?
I suspect the power supply, or perhaps one of those tedious possibilities, like swapping out a SATA cable or reseating the RAM sticks...
I enjoy Windows 7, but if it doesn't stabilize, I am going back to Windows XP... 🤷

PS: Specs are AMD Athlon (64) X2 5200+, Gigabyte GA-M56S motherboard, 3072 GHz RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4650, HDD: Maxtor+WDC

If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to share... I am open to suggestions.
What were your main grievances with America? in Close to Politics ·
We can spend our time hating everything from the old USA era and Josip Broz Marshall to communism itself...
But if it hadn't worked, it wouldn't have lasted forty-five years.
People can spin whatever fairy tales they want about whether things were better or worse—it all comes down to perspective...
The reality is simply that it was different.
I never hated it, though I’m certainly no one's nostalgic dreamer.

Out of all of it, my only grievance is with our own people—every group across the former states who lacked the strength, the will, or the sense to resist the toxic ideologies that took hold in the early 90s.
If only the ringleaders had been dealt with at the dawn of the conflict, and everyone had sat down to negotiate like adults.
Perhaps we all got more or less what we thought we wanted back then, but I doubt we are all actually happy with the result.
As the old saying goes: be careful what you wish for...
☕
I can only hope that in the future, we all become a bit smarter, more cautious, and a little wiser...

I once went to art school with a guy who could perform absolute miracles in Paint using nothing but a mouse. Had I not witnessed his process firsthand, I wouldn't have believed it...
I dabbled a bit on a friend's Wacom a few years back, but when it came time to buy my own, the price tag was ultimately the deciding factor.
Since I've been drawing for basically my entire life, it only took me about an hour to get used to it...
That said, my Genius EasyPen M610X serves my hobbyist needs quite well enough.
