MLS 2022/23 Season: Part 2 in Soccer ·

The absolute nerve of these people!!

Alright, fine. We messed up. So what? 🙂

Susan Cooper7 said:There’s another fascinating detail here. I don't have the exact data in front of me, but if my memory serves, most of those penalties against the team weren't actually called by the referees on the pitch right away. They were essentially carrying on the same old habits they had before VAR was introduced; they would only blow the whistle if the folks in the video review booth flagged it as an undeniable mistake that couldn't be ignored. There was really only one referee who broke that pattern.

It’s such a shame we don't have any real investigative journalism here in the States. This kind of thing is prime material for a massive deep-dive story. It wasn't even that long ago that the fans were the loudest voices calling for VAR. Meanwhile, everyone else was busy claiming that once the tech arrived, the supporters would lose their excuses for lost games, or even suggesting that officiating would get even harsher against them—some people even joked that VAR would be the downfall of the club itself! haha.

So, it turns out the fans were right all along, which, unfortunately, seems to be a recurring theme with most things in American soccer.

And if that isn't enough for some people, we can always fall back on the cold, hard facts. Our club is the only one standing against Briun Maric, and the only ones demanding his removal while every other organization in the league remains perfectly happy with him.

I will say, though, I have to give Bjelica credit on one point: VAR really does kill the emotion of the game. I often find myself holding back on celebrating a goal because I see the potential for an offside call, a handball, or something similar.
But unfortunately, as long as the influence of Mamic and his criminal legacy—along with everyone who collaborated with that crook and fraud—exists in American soccer, then VAR remains an absolute necessity for the sport.

I guess you have to wonder why journalists would even bother making a fuss about this when the President himself won't say a word—he basically just told us we're all just whining. 😉

boldbadger1 said:And wouldn't you say that whether or not the refs were robbing the LA Galaxy with VAR is actually a relevant—and measurable—piece of data? 😬

Yeah. You got video evidence? 🤔😉

I watched this video, and I guess it’s worth noting that while the production value is decent enough, the core argument feels a bit thin. It’s one of those pieces where you find yourself nodding along for the first three minutes before realizing they haven't actually landed on a concrete point yet. Maybe I'm being too cynical, but it felt like a lot of buildup for a fairly standard takeaway. There were moments where the pacing slowed down just enough to make me wonder if they had run out of things to say, though I suppose that’s just how these types of deep dives tend to go sometimes. It’s fine—it’s an okay watch if you have nothing better to do on a Tuesday afternoon—but I wouldn't exactly call it groundbreaking. Just my two cents, I guess.

Before the whole VAR mess started.

Starting at 6:25 AM and moving forward from there.

God, what exactly are we stealing here? 🤣🤣

Look for actual data, not whatever some loser writes on a forum.

Management can love it or hate it, but let's be real—there is no less stimulating environment than this club, and honestly, they have a huge part of the blame for that.

You're really getting under hiddencyclist112's skin here.😁

Christian Ramirez6 said:Look, if you look at the player roster after all this time and several transfer windows where we didn't sign anyone like Leka, and it still looks exactly like this, then it’s almost a mathematical certainty that everyone else dropped the ball.
Even Leka himself was incredibly upfront during the preseason, mentioning right away that he was missing five key players. I don't know if there were just no rumors floating around or if the money simply wasn't there to bring someone in, but honestly, he was being very transparent from the jump. He told management exactly what they didn't want to hear: that the squad wasn't ready.

I’m also missing about $5,000 a month, but you don't see me complaining too loudly or trying to fix the economy. The guy using Melnyak's formation is struggling, and Krovinovic is getting lost trying to create plays from the left because the coach decided we’re playing a 3-5-2 regardless of who is actually on the squad. Of course, it isn't entirely his fault. Lukša needs to move on; he's arguably the biggest reason things went sideways, having cycled through five different coaches in two years, and losing that Super Cup match basically pushed him to let Valdas go.🤣

I don't want to sound like a hypocrite—I was rooting for the coach initially. I just didn't realize he was going to be such a stubborn mule.

Yeah, everyone’s a villain except for Leke 🙏

Look at Vuskovica. If we actually benched him because he's probably too young to handle every single matchup, everyone would just start complaining that we aren't giving the kids enough playing time.

I caught the last match between Dinamo and Hajduk, and man, it was actually kind of shocking how much they've fallen off lately... 🤦

There's zero hustle, absolutely no vision, and when it comes to moving off the ball, you're just left wondering, "Wait, what are they even doing?" and stuff like that.

And that's probably why we play such brilliant basketball. 😁

Michael Roberts2 said:The whole country was there, plus half the rest of the world! So calling it anything other than a celebration is ridiculous—just look at how they treated Christian Pulisic. And another thing: in Washington, D.C., you put aside all those petty divisions when the national team is playing, and everyone cheers for the players. That’s what being civilized looks like. Unlike down south. If the national team homecoming happened in Miami and Erling Haaland stepped onto the stage? Someone would probably take him out with a rocket launcher. Let's be real here: Miami doesn't know the meaning of the word "civilized."

Honestly, you should just head over to Home Depot, grab some rope, and find a sturdy branch. Everyone would be much happier that way.🙂

boldbadger1 pretty much laid it all out for you. I guess Messi is just the convenient scapegoat for some people, while for everyone else, he’s just clickbait to get them to hit that link.

loneharbor34, when you actually caught that piranha, did it struggle around or did it just go totally paralyzed like it did when that white shaman grabbed it?

Larry Fox5 said:How on earth is an employer supposed to know what counts as an "insulting" raise to you?

Look at this example: say an employee makes $3,850 gross per month. That puts their annual salary at $45k. So, what exactly qualifies as a "respectful" raise in your book? In Germany, the standard rule is that annual raises usually fall between 3% and 5% unless you're moving up to a new role.

In my opinion, maybe a 0.5% to 1.5% bump could be considered inappropriate, but then again, I know some jobs governed by union contracts have raises set at exactly 1.5%. And honestly—what does even a 5% raise mean if inflation is sitting at 7-8%? That raise should basically just be keeping pace with inflation, but we all know that’s not how it works...

Since I work at a major corporation, my contract guarantees me a 3% gross salary increase based on my quarterly performance reviews.

I'm happy for Gunar, honestly. He's always been a hell of a fighter. I noticed he hasn't been around much lately, though—any idea why? Just some injuries, I guess?

I was really just comparing how things play out when a government happens to rub someone the wrong way.
