Franz Ferdinand in Vienna, Dec 15th in Music ·
.. I just caught Dragaš's interview on the morning news today:

Back before Franz Ferdinand took the stage at Madison Square Garden—after which we were all just singing "ich heisse superfantastisch, ich trinken champagne with salmon"...

It was funny, though. Instead of one of those sharp shirts he wears on stage, Kapranos met me backstage looking just like Connery in one of his action movies, wearing this green military sweater. I actually felt a little bad that, instead of a black velvet shirt, I hadn't worn my hunting green pullover.

I'm not sure if I should post 🙂 or 😂

He really could have double-checked the lyrics and how they're supposed to be spelled.. 🙄

They're great, though—just weird and totally crazy, bless them. And those names and all the mentions of Lugos... what a trip.

Man, it was just a joke! You don't actually think I'm into Bauhaus just because of the name, do you? 😵 (Though, I do love that they named themselves after Walter Gropius—that part I love)😍.

A directive? Since when did I get special treatment on this forum? 😬

Hmm, well, that certainly explains everything then. 😁

@ stormyviper11: What exactly is missing from The Smiths? They’re easily one of the most accessible bands out there, and honestly, they’re probably the least "opossum" of everyone on this list. 🙂

Man, this forum is moving at a snail's pace. 🆙

Dana Anderson4 said:Generational spikes are such weird things. For instance, looking back, Blue Orchestra has somehow become this massive cult band. To me, they felt about on par with Colonia today—if you can even make a logical comparison like that.

Hehe, I’ll never forget how crushed I was when my dad bought me a Blue Orchestra cassette back in 6th grade. He thought it was "what people listen to now," and I honestly just burst into tears 😬. Luckily, my mom saved the day a few days later by getting me Depeche Mode instead 😍
.
Back when Sexi was still active, I think I was still a little too young to really get into them. But by the time Why arrived, I was finally musically aware enough to appreciate them, which is why I'm voting "yes" on them being part of the conversation 👍.

Oh, and let's not forget—November is the month of the legendary rock bands 🙏

New York is just a decent pop band... and look, they’re good at what they do... but... but... 🙂

I have to object here—both you and vividcanyon2 are being pretty selective with how you're quoting me. 😬
Joy Division is pure depression—the kind that hits you so hard all you want to do is give up. But when I put on New Order? That’s a different story. I actually feel upbeat and find myself wanting to dance. 🙂

It feels like we're just dragging this thing out forever. As specified by:
Yeah, I get that. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if they played somewhere like She's in Parties...

Man, remember back in '96? Pure Looney Tunes vibes... I actually still have my invitation to that Bauhaus party sitting at home. 😍

Yeah, I guess you get a pass, but if we’re being honest, a true punk shouldn't be vibing with those mainstream pop idiots from the mid-90s.🙂

Top 10 mainstream pop headaches:

1. Miniature 😍
2. Maja
3. ...the day I was left alone
4. Goodbye, Maria
5. We're only here for the money
6. Survival
7. I won't work for dollars
8. When the sun sets again
9. For you
10. Oh Bella Ciao

Alex Scott22 said:Well, I knew someone would come after me for mentioning Bauhaus... 🙂

It’s hard to explain... the sound feels sort of plastic... and honestly, the lyrics have started feeling pretty hollow to me...

Don't back away just yet
From destinations set
I dare you to be proud
To dare to shout aloud
For convictions that you feel
Like sound from bells to peal
I dare you to speak of your despise
For bureaucracy, hypocrisy—all liars

Isn't that a little bit pretentious?

Not really. A band that names itself after an art movement and drops references to White Lugosia and Antonin Artaud definitely isn't writing shallow lyrics. 🙂

And as he lay there
Playing games with his pain
He felt his choice of jobs
Was such a mistake
He could have been a doctor in a soft easy chair
Instead he chose three stars
A territorial affair

or

Until exposed became my darker side
Puckering up and down some avenue of sin
Too cheap to ride they're worth a try
If only for the old times, cold times
Don't go waving your pretentious love
He's soliciting on his tan brown brogues
Girating through some lonesome devils row
Pinpointing well meaning upper class prey
Of walking money checks possessing holes
He often sleekly offers his services
Exploitation of his finer years
Work with loosely woven fabrics
Of lonely office clerks
Any lay suffices his dollar green eye

Alex Scott22 said:Top 3 worst "goth" bands:

1. The Cure
2. Bauhaus
3. Bauhaus 3. Sisters of whatever-it-is

You're going on the ignore list, I'm being serious this time 😬

New Order is a hundred times better than Joy Division. If they had actually kept going, I probably would have ended up hanging myself from the sheer amount of depression they'd be dumping on me, rather than poor Ian. 😁

Kevin Chavez3 said:@L: "Megapunk" is sterile?! Between "bozin", "How the West has fallen", "But it's not over yet", and "Shine" — how is that sterile?! You've got no soul. 🙂

Oh, come on, Megapunk is total garbage. Those idiots should have broken up right after "stupidity is indestructible." 🙂

By the way, you’re actually the first person I know who genuinely digs that album. 🙂

Alex Scott22 said:Top 3 old-school legends whose records have truly stood the test of time... these albums might sound a bit dated now, but back then, they were pure avant-garde:

1. Cream
2. Doors
3. Bauhaus 😬

Care to elaborate on number 3? 🙂

5. 5th Cold Beer - "G.A.D."
4. Let 3 - "Two Dogs Fucking"
3. KUD Idijoti - "Megapunk"
2. Why stakla - "Daj, dođi!"
1. Paraf - "Zastave"

5, 4, and 2... 👍

but: how can you pick something as sterile as 'Megapunk' as your number one when you have such absolute gems like 'Bolivia R&B' and 'We're Only Here for the Money' in your catalog?😕

Plus, I know it was right around my birthday in July, and I remember complaining about how I couldn't make it to the concert on my own birthday. If it wasn't Sonic Youth, I'd love to know what it actually was.🤔

She finally remembered!!! (thank goodness for Google 🙂). It was actually Smashing Pumpkins... and it wasn't Chicago, it was Phoenix. Still, I feel just as silly for skipping it as I did before.😵 😵 😵

Cleveland. The Oreški brothers. That’s how our elders used to say it.

The Oreški brothers are from Austria, they have nothing to do with Times Square. Times Square is just Times Square. 🙂

Wait, Budapest in '96? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that was actually '97. That was my freshman year, during summer school.🤔

Karen Doyle2 said:I’d probably say "Fascism Victims Square" too, even though I've lived in Chicago my whole life.. 😕

I don't know, it just sounds weird to me.. It’s like how people call Times Square just 'Times', or refer to the French Republic Plaza as just 'French Plaza', rather than using the full title. To me, Fascism Victims Square is basically just 'Victims Square'.. by the way, what do you call the quad? 😬

Raymond Barrett12, I hate you too 😁

On another note, I'm trying to put together a top 3 Nirvana albums list, but I'm struggling.. it's just too complicated 🙂
Personal Top Lists & Rankings in Music ·
My top 4 misses when it comes to seeing the top 3 Nirvana, in order:

1. Budapest '97—all because of some stupid statistics exam. Someone convinced us we had to show up on that exact date or the professor would fail us for the whole year. Of course, that wasn't true, but when you're a freshman, you're young and naive enough to believe anything. 😳

2. New York City '03—we hit a massive rainstorm and ended up pushing the trip from Sunday to Monday. The train to NYC was scheduled for about 1:05 PM, and I just found out they were actually playing at 1:30 PM. 😠

3. Boston '04—my boyfriend at the time refused to drive. His excuse? "Boston is too far, people drive like maniacs there, and honestly, they're kind of ugly." 🙄

4. Chicago '05—a total comedy of errors involving my friends. One friend thought the other was driving, while the second one was counting on the first guy's car—except his car conveniently broke down right that day. There was even a backup plan with a travel agency, but they canceled the whole trip a day early because only six people signed up. 🙂

😢 😢 😢

Anyway, I hate you, boldscout72. 🙂
