New monitors, new resolutions in Computer Peripherals ·
Hey there.

I'm thinking about picking up a new monitor, but honestly, I'm pretty clueless about it, so if anyone could weigh in with some advice, I'd appreciate it.

I'm looking for something around 22 inches with a budget of roughly $400. It’s mostly for casual stuff—browsing the web, watching movies (nothing fancy, just standard DivX files; I'm not really a cinephile who needs high-end picture quality, just something easy on the eyes), and maybe the occasional game, though that's rare, so you can probably ignore gaming specs for now. That's basically the whole story; my requirements aren't high, but since I don't know much about this stuff, I figured I'd ask before I commit to anything.

The last thing I bought was an old Samsung SyncMaster 19'', and it's definitely earned its retirement, so I'm hoping to find something that isn't a step down from what I'm using now.

I've done a little digging, but the selection is just overwhelming. I found these two examples; let me know if they're decent or if there's something better out there.

Oh, I should mention that my PC is actually quite powerful, so I don't need to worry about whether the graphics card can handle higher resolutions or anything like that.😉

Just a little something to see which side people would actually pick if they had to.

Like, who are you rooting for in this whole "feud" between them?
1. Team Kostelic.
2. Team Vlašić.
3. Honestly, just throw them both in a ditch; Ćiro is basically God walking among us.

Quick question! in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’ll share my take on how things have unfolded here.

We used to have this thread dedicated to jokes, and honestly, it worked fine. Sure, there was some off-topic chatter now and then, but nothing crazy. The moderator back then was Zodiac, who would pop in every few months and generally stayed out of the way without making things weird. It was alright. Then William Myers7 stepped in and, within just a couple of months, launched that "Funny picture" thread, which ended up being one of the most visited spots on the entire forum. Since it felt like we didn't actually have a moderator—because you can't really call Zodiac a moderator if he's never around—his taking charge seemed like the only logical move at the time.

Then, out of nowhere, Jose Johnson79 showed up and started her little reign of terror without any warning or heads-up. She zeroed in on the "Funny picture" thread, even though there were plenty of other topics that desperately needed attention first. That thread was perfect exactly the way it was, but she went ahead and locked it down, split it into different sections, and wiped away every trace of our conversations where we were actually trying to be decent people. Naturally, that rubbed us the wrong way, and the reaction was predictably messy—insults, threats, and everyone just pestering the super-moderators.

I've seen how it usually goes when someone gets promoted to moderator. Usually, it’s some congratulations or just friendly ribbing. But how are you supposed to congratulate someone you’ve never even interacted with on the forum?

Look, I know it’s irrelevant to what we’re discussing, but it seems a bit pointless to have a moderator who doesn't actually participate in the thread they’re managing and who has managed to alienate absolutely everyone posting there. Personally, I wouldn't want to hold a moderator position in a thread where nobody can stand me.

We’re all adults here; we aren't children, and we have some sense of decorum. Making jokes isn't some sign of immaturity. We just want a moderator who is actually part of the community, rather than someone who just drops in periodically to delete posts and hand out bans.
As for why Jose Johnson79 was appointed moderator, the answer is pretty clear: "she's great in bed." Brava Zodiac, you've really shown us what kind of authority you have. Go ahead, give me another ban.
Why was the 'funny photo' thread deleted? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Ahem... maybe I should suggest a little Solomon-style compromise here.

Why don't you guys just reopen that old thread and tack ''and GIFs'' onto the title?
Problem solved.

And while you're at it, get rid of this nickname...

She decided to separate GIFs from photos, and I honestly don't see the problem with that.

By that logic, trolling, cheering, and all that other nonsense isn't allowed on unknown either.

Oh, come on. You aren't actually trying to drive people off the forum, are you? Just make William Myers7 the moderator for that thread and call it a day.
She wasn't doing her job—people were out there trying to sell cars in those threads and she didn't even touch them; instead, she just showed up in the "funny photos" section and poked the bear. How can someone be a moderator when they haven't even posted a single thing on that specific PDF?

Let's be real for a second...
The bank is taking my entire paycheck... in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Good luck with the sale; you've got a beautiful place there. I've been following this thread quite closely because I’m weighing the idea of taking out a loan myself—nothing massive, but enough to really bite into my monthly budget, so I’m trying to get a sense of how much leverage I can actually afford before things get complicated.

I truly hope you can wrap up the apartment sale soon so you can finally settle into a comfortable rhythm and get your finances sorted out.

It’s definitely a win for any household. I know the smartest move is probably just walking into a few local branches to see what they’re offering face-to-face, but I’d much rather do my homework online first so I actually have a clue what to expect. It’s way too easy to stroll into a JP Morgan Chase branch, listen to them pitch you something that sounds like a dream, and then realize two years later that you got totally played. I’ve been scouring the web for a few days now to gather some data, so I’m starting to get the lay of the land. Thanks for the help 😉

She won't be able to act as a co-signer either, so your plan regarding the household finances just isn't going to fly... In my opinion, your best bet is to take out a loan on the condition that they settle that lease of yours first. Otherwise, Chase offers unsecured loans up to $25,000; my sister-in-law actually just pulled that off last month. She works for a government agency making about $7,000 a month, has zero existing debt, and they approved her without a second thought... But you have to be their customer, though switching over isn't exactly a huge ordeal!

I wasn't actually talking about my girlfriend, but rather my parents, since we're all under the same roof—which I assume counts as a single household. I'm looking to get a loan for home renovations so I can eventually move in, but on paper, I'll still be registered at the same address. A shared household doesn't necessarily mean marriage; I'm assuming it's enough just to be living with someone, right?

I've been looking into JP Morgan Chase too, weighing my options and hoping I can find a way through. I wonder if knowing someone at the bank makes a difference—not a big director or anything, but maybe a teller or a branch manager who could help nudge things along.🤷

I was just reading up on a loan JPMorgan Chase is offering where they calculate your creditworthiness based on your entire household's income. Basically, if you have a co-signer living under the same roof, they pool your incomes together, subtract all your existing monthly obligations, and ensure you’re still left with at least $833 after their loan payment is factored in. Under those terms, I should be able to qualify. The catch is the cap is $15,000, but since the interest rate is actually decent, I could manage both my car lease and this loan for about $1067 total per month, which would drop down to $467 after two and a half years. I'm just hoping the fine print on their website is somewhat accurate and that I can actually get approved. I suppose being with this bank for eight years—moving from my local branch to the regional office and finally to JPMorgan Chase—should count for something, especially since I've never had an issue. Plus, the company I work for is a very stable government agency. When I went to buy my car, they initially asked for a mountain of paperwork regarding my employer, but once I told them where I work, they basically waved me through, saying they just needed my average salary since working for the government makes me a safe bet...

I'm not entirely sure what people's experiences have been like with loans at JPMorgan Chase, though I've heard they're generally alright. I mean, obviously, the bank is looking out for its own bottom line, but I haven't heard much horror story territory regarding them compared to, say, Wells Fargo.

So, I’m about halfway through a car lease with two and a half years left on it. Right now, I find myself needing roughly $15,000, which naturally means looking into a loan. Since I’m already tied up with this lease, I have a feeling my debt-to-income ratio might disqualify me from getting approved.
Here’s how things stand. My take-home pay is around $4,200-$1667 a month, but that lease eats into a chunk of it. What I’m actually aiming for is a $22,000 personal loan over a 10-year term; the plan is to pay off the car entirely and use the leftover cash for some home renovations. My monthly lease payment is sitting at about $600—which is actually $67 higher than when I started because of those Swiss adjustments—so I suspect my creditworthiness is pretty much shot. The lease is currently held with JPMorgan Chase.
I’ve been with a government agency for three years now, following three years on contract. My girlfriend works at the same agency on a temporary contract, bringing in somewhere between $1833 and $6,000 a month, but since her position isn't permanent yet, she can't qualify for a loan on her own. However, I do have a potential co-signer who has a permanent role at a government office and earns about $2000 with zero existing debt.

What’s my best move here to get this loan approved? Is it possible for me to get approved if my own credit capacity is too low, provided I have a solid co-signer? Or could my girlfriend apply if she has a reliable co-signer despite her temporary status? Repaying the loan won't be an issue; the only hurdle is figuring out how we can actually secure the funds. She’ll eventually land a permanent position, but not for a while, as her company policy requires three years of service before they offer full-time contracts (unless you have the right connections, which we definitely don't right now).

What is the actual point of a co-signer? From what I’ve gathered reading bank terms, it seems like if you aren't creditworthy, having a co-signer allows you to bypass your own limitations. But looking through some discussions here, it feels like both the applicant and the co-signer need to meet certain credit standards. If that’s the case, then it seems a co-signer is just extra insurance for the bank rather than a way in. Any advice on what we should do?

P.S. I started a new thread because I asked about creditworthiness elsewhere and didn't get any traction. It looks like there are people here who really know their stuff, so I figured I’d try my luck one more time. Thanks.

It was a brilliant concept, but they sort of lost the thread somewhere along the way. This could have been a truly great movie, but instead, it just lands as being good. At least in my book. It was worth the watch, but nothing to write home about.

Just a simple question for the group. Is making the jump to Windows 7 actually worth the hassle? I'm wondering if I should ditch my reliable XP setup now or just hold out a little longer. Plus, does it still have all those typical growing pains you expect with a new release?

I see there's some debate going on regarding power supplies and graphics cards, so I was wondering if an EVGA 410 w would actually cut it if I wanted to throw an EVGA Radeon HD4670 into my ASUS DFI lan party cfx3200-dr setup running an AMD Athlon 64 3500+?
