From a psychological standpoint, kids tend to rush their speech when they're excited or feeling anxious. Try repeating what they said back to them in a calm, slow manner.
It’s happening more often lately. Like, if we're headed to the beach? He'll throw out a few sentences, and if we don't jump in right away, he just repeats the exact same question—but this time without the stutter. "When are we going to the beach?"

Hey everyone, my kid just hit the five-year mark. We actually moved to a different country about two years ago. I haven't noticed any issues with their vocabulary until recently, but now there’s this slight hesitation in their speech because they spend so much time speaking English that their American English is starting to trip over itself sometimes.
The stuttering usually happens right at the start of a sentence when they're rushing to say something—like if they ask, "When, when, when do we have to leave?" That "when" part gets stuck, whether they're speaking English or their other language. When they get excited and try to speed up, they just end up repeating that first word.
Is this happening because of being bilingual? Should I be worried?

Yeah, yeah, thanks a lot! 👍
rustydrifter10 said:Actually, it might flow better if you went with quietmoose48 since Joy is clearly the main part of your handle that people will use to address you, while woman is really just an extra bit at the end, right? 🙂
Edit: Just a thought—that extra word doesn't have to define your gender or your relationship status at all. It could be almost anything (like sea, flame, meow, mint, blue, calla...) or even just an initial.
Not gonna happen.
quietmoose48Honestly, I was just thinking about...
quietmoose48Look, if it’s a no, then it’s a no. No big deal. But seriously, don't go handing out penalties just because I'm being persistent here. Please. 🙂So, could I just call her Mom? Like, "Hey, Mom"?
rustydrifter10 said:Listen, I have a small favor to ask: please don't request to have numbers tacked onto the end of your username. Your handle is essentially your second identity here on the forum—it's how everyone else addresses you—so it really ought to be readable, properly spelled, and visually clean. Personally, I'd much rather grant a slightly larger change to a name if it helps, rather than letting someone make their username look messy, ungrammatical, or totally out of sync with our core rules.
Fine, point taken. 🙂
Can I change
quietmoose48 instead? (I got married, so I'm not a "little" girl anymore 😁).
Thanks a lot, and all the best!
Hey there,
can I change my username to joja83girl?
Hi.
Sure thing, just reach out to Nice.
It’s all incredibly complicated, right up until the moment it finally clicks.
I’ve been hunting for a thread about surgery for congenital anomalies, specifically involving the thumb, but I can't find anything. Does anyone happen to know how many days you typically spend in the hospital after a procedure to remove extra bone in the thumb? Is there some standard rule of thumb regarding the length of stay? To be specific, we're looking at polydactyly—specifically a fused nail on that finger.
During my first pregnancy, I didn't get any preferential treatment whatsoever because my bump was so small nobody could even tell I was expecting.
Now that I'm on my second round, I seem to have a VIP pass everywhere I go. The other day, some old guy at Walmart went out of his way to help me carry my groceries, and it actually took me a second to remember I was even pregnant.
Once you have your first boy, everyone starts speculating about whether the next one will be a girl, and vice versa. If it doesn't go that way, they just start adding more to the tally, like it's some kind of endless game of addition. 🙂
When it comes to how big my bump actually looked, I remember during my first pregnancy, I went into my doctor's office for a checkup about six weeks before my due date. The OB-GYN looked at me, then looked back at her charts, and asked who the appointment was actually for. When I told her it was for me, she just stared and said, "No way, where is your stomach?" 🙂
Because of that, I never really got any special treatment or priority in lines based on how pregnant I looked. Unless I specifically spoke up and explained what was going on, people just assumed I wasn't expecting anything. 🙂
Look, highlights aren't exactly "safe," but they’re definitely better than a full head of color because you aren't dumping chemicals directly onto your scalp. Honestly, I had my highlights done when I was two months along—I didn't even realize I was pregnant yet. It’s funny, because during my first pregnancy, my OB-GYN specifically told me to hold off on any hair coloring until after the third month.
During my first pregnancy, I was constantly stressed about the scale and the looming threat of gestational diabetes. It felt like every pound mattered. 🙄
With my second one, it’s been a total shock—I don't have to obsess over the weight because it seems to just melt off on its own, and the diabetes issue isn't even a factor this time. 😁
The whole experience is so much smoother during a second pregnancy, but honestly, once the baby actually arrives, 😍
