What a killer live set. Honestly, I think this band gets way too little credit—to me, they actually top Cannibal Corpse.

Ugh... death metal? I moved past that phase ages ago, right around the time I outgrew my awkward teenage years.
I went through that whole phase alongside all those other adolescent clichés; it's definitely not my vibe anymore.🕺
To me, it’s just simply too basic and far too predictable for my ears.

I honestly have no clue, I'm not quite that much of an insider. All I know is that the drummer is essentially the alpha and omega of CC, that Chuck S. is arguably the most talented ever to do it, and a few other things along those lines. I haven't even listened to everything that's considered essential...

So, that's John Gallagher from Dying Fetus, but now he’s got hair. Honestly, being bald looked a hundred times better on him—now he just looks like some random grandpa.
Yeah. The CC drummer is basically on Lars Ulrich's level. Haha, I guess since his buddies haven't called him out on it for ages... but hey, they have that specific kind of bomb groove rhythm, so any decent drummer could probably pull that off easily.
I mean, there have been some seriously brutal drummers in death metal and live settings. Like, Marco Minneman actually played live with Necrophagist once.
For me, the most natural and talented drummer was definitely the late Vitek from Decapitated.
That's how you play with actual style.

If you look at Cannibal Corpse, I think back in the day they had Webster working with the guitarists—they always had killer guitar players. Honestly, they basically poached guitarists from Monstrosity and Malevolent Creation, and even grabbed a corpsegrind vocalist from Monstrosity too. But look, the bottom line is they pulled massive sold-out tours and actually had a real tour bus. That’s what made the difference...

Have you ever listened to Necrophagist? Muhammed is pretty much the only guitarist who even came close to Chuck S. The guy played like Beethoven dropped into death metal—it was insane. That Epitaph album... man. I saw them live back in 2006 at a tiny club in Chicago when they were opening for Bolt Thrower. There were maybe ten people there. Such incredible technique and pure shredding. I was absolutely floored.

I heard about them, probably listened to a bit too, but it just didn't stick. I only see two albums listed here, which isn't exactly a massive discography to dive into... 👍
Bolt Thrower didn't really click for me at first, though I gave them another spin recently and they're sounding a little better. I can't quite remember which one I have loaded up in my car, I think it might be Realm of Chaos.

Check out Necrophagist's Epitaph. You won't regret it.
Bolt Thrower was awesome for me on the Mercenary album, but honestly, looking back at Necro, I don't even think I actually listened to Bolt Thrower.
After watching about 30 minutes of that Necrophagist live set, I was just sitting there like: wait, am I actually seeing this right??
It's just something else...
Muhammad actually had material ready for a new album, but some big-shot record label messed things up and he ended up taking an engineering job at a BMW plant instead—so that whole thing just died out.
The first album is great too, though they re-recorded it later with a real drummer instead of using a drum machine, so definitely look for that version. But Epitaph? That's in a league of its own. Highly recommended.

The debut album is honestly top-tier, though you really have to hunt down the version where they re-recorded the drum machine tracks with a live drummer to get the full effect... that's the one worth finding, but man, Epitaph is in a league of its own. If you listen to anything, make it that one...
