As for Beth, she’s honestly spiraling further into alcoholism and drug addiction—just burning through every cent she has left. It’s pretty rough to watch; she’s actually being forced to hawk her chess skills just to entertain some local lowlifes, basically doing whatever it takes to scrape together enough dollars for a loaf of bread and a pack of cigarettes.

I mean, if they’d actually kept the show going, I bet it would've played out exactly like that.
She probably would've ended up working as a janitor at her old orphanage or something—just trying to get by while teaching some new kid, maybe a little Beth, how to play chess.
