The whole point of this thread was to move people away from our usual lounge bar—which basically functions as a collective therapy couch. So, just a heads-up: this is likely going to be a depression chat. Consider yourselves warned.

I have no intention of faking some "positive mindset" routine. To me, that feels dishonest—an attempt to stifle the very emotions that are fundamentally tied to my depression, dissatisfaction, and other things I won't bother listing.

Simply deciding to think positively, or pretending to see sunshine where there is none, isn't going to change a thing. My problems aren't going to vanish just because I decided today to slap a smile on my own caricature. So, whatever. If you’re looking for a space filled with mindless, upbeat chatter 100% of the time, I’ll disappoint you right out of the gate. You've come to the wrong place. That's my stance.

I’m not going to sit here and fake some kind of toxic positivity, because to me, that feels like a total lie—just a way to suffocate my own actual emotions, which are deeply tied to depression, dissatisfaction, and honestly, a whole list of other things.

Making a conscious decision to "think positively" or pretend I can see sunshine when there isn't any isn't going to change a damn thing. My problems aren't just going to vanish simply because I decided today to slap a smile on my own caricature. So, yeah. If you're looking for a chat where everyone spouts mindless nonsense 100% of the time, I'll disappoint you right out of the gate—you've come to the wrong place (read: the wrong thread). That's my stance, take it or leave it.

Don't even bother fighting it; you'll realize pretty quickly that most of the posts here are practically dripping with depression, self-loathing, and various mental struggles. 😁

Get a life. 🕺

I actually showed up here long before you did, specifically to offer some perspective to people who realize they have issues, thanks to my pretty deep understanding of how the human mind works.

Nobody cares what you ate for breakfast, what color socks you're wearing, or who you're fantasizing about. Your little psychological projections aren't anyone's business here.

I can't believe I'm even typing this, but someone had to say it. Honestly, I've been sitting here stewing for the last hour because I am just absolutely fed up with how things are being handled lately. It feels like every time we turn around, there’s some new ridiculous rule or some massive oversight that nobody seems to give a damn about. It reminds me of this one time back when I was working a retail gig in Chicago—total chaos, complete lack of leadership, and everyone just pointing fingers instead of actually fixing the problem. That’s exactly what’s happening here! We’re getting the runaround while the people in charge act like everything is sunshine and rainbows. It’s infuriating. And don't even get me started on what Scott Nguyen5 was saying earlier. Seriously? How can anyone be that delusional? It's like some people live in an entirely different reality. I'm not trying to be difficult, but at some point, you have to stop making excuses and face the facts. We need actual solutions, not more empty promises and corporate nonsense. I'm done playing nice about it. I can't even begin to process this. Seriously, what are we even doing here? I’ve seen some nonsense in my time, but this takes the cake. It’s like people just wake up and decide to be completely irrational for no reason at all. Honestly, it makes me want to throw my laptop out the window.
Look, I was hanging around this place way before you even showed up. I’ve been here long enough to see how people tick, and honestly, I’ve got a pretty deep handle on how the human mind actually works. Because of that, I usually end up dropping some much-needed advice for anyone out there who's actually self-aware enough to realize they have problems worth fixing.

What the hell were you drinking? Seriously, nobody here gives a damn about what you ate, what color socks you're wearing, or who you're obsessing over. Keep your weird little projections to yourself—nobody cares.

Look, I’m not even interested in you, so quit trying to hit on me all over this damn forum! 😳 What can I even say to you? Honestly, I'm speechless. 😳
Maybe you just don't have such a deep grasp of the human psyche after all. 🙂

Is there truly no shred of shame left in this world? Where has all the empathy gone, and has compassion become such a foreign concept to us all?

I mean it, truly.

It truly pays off in the end, you know? You’ll find that once you push through, everything becomes so much easier to manage. 🕺

Morgan Campbell4 said:The fundamental purpose behind creating this space was to provide an alternative for those who felt they were being treated like patients on a psychiatric couch in our old lounge bar chat. I suspect, quite candidly, that what we have here will very likely evolve into a dedicated outlet for depression. I simply wanted to let everyone know exactly what kind of atmosphere you can expect to find within these walls.

I have absolutely no intention of putting on some facade of forced positivity, because to me, that feels like nothing more than a lie; isn't it just a way of suppressing the very emotions that are fundamentally tied to my depression, my discontent, and—well, I could go on forever.

Simply deciding to maintain a positive outlook—to stare directly at a sun that isn't even there—isn't going to magically alter my reality. My problems won't just vanish into thin air simply because I’ve made a conscious choice today to put a smile on my own caricature, will they? So, honestly, if you are looking for a chat where people just spout mindless nonsense 100% of the time, I’ll disappoint you right out of the gate by telling you that you've wandered into the wrong place. That is quite enough from me.

So, am I to understand that this entire thread is intended to be a space for self-pity? Is this truly where we gather to wallow in our own misfortunes? 🕺

It is quite fascinating when you really sit down and think about it, isn't it? I have always held the firm belief that, at the end of the day, a person possesses the capacity to help themselves in the vast majority of circumstances. If they truly possess the will to do so, of course—because without that fundamental desire to change or improve, all the external support in the world becomes almost entirely moot.

It seems highly probable that I won't be the first one to truly mesh with the vibe of this chat, mostly because I’ve never been one to be particularly impressed by constant complaining or endless self-pity—not unless there is a genuine, underlying desire to actually help oneself or find a way out of the mess. While I possess an immense amount of empathy and am more than willing to listen and truly understand what others are going through, I simply cannot bring myself to respect those who choose to wallow in their own misfortune. Is there really anything more draining than watching someone refuse to move forward? Don't get me wrong; it isn't as if I haven't found myself navigating my own share of incredibly difficult and grueling circumstances, but even then, I always looked for the light at the end of the tunnel.

It seems quite likely that our perspectives will frequently clash, won't they? Given how differently we all approach these matters, shouldn't we expect to find ourselves on opposite sides of the aisle from time to time? 🕺

I truly, deeply hope that whatever is happening right now isn't something fundamentally irreparable, because honestly, I wouldn't wish that kind of weight on anyone's shoulders. But then again, isn't it true that throughout our lives, regardless of how chaotic things get or what storms we have to weather, there is only one person we can ever truly rely on without any conditions? In the end, you realize that the only person who will always be standing there, ready to pick up the pieces, is yourself. 🕺

Honestly, I think it’s incredibly hard to take what you're saying seriously when you're talking to people dealing with depression. I'm being intentional about using the word "state" here, because it isn't just some illness.

Jeffrey Baker18 said:So, you're not a fan of apples? 😳 To me, it sounds like a voice so universally appealing that everyone would just naturally gravitate toward it. 😁

Flavor-wise, fruit is pretty boring. It’s got this tedious taste and the juice feels too heavy, even if it is technically the most efficient way to get your vitamins in. A local Washington plum might be even more intense, but the flavor is just as difficult to handle. I actually have to mentally prepare myself before eating them; if I just snack on them casually, it honestly feels overwhelming.

Garlic is easily my favorite thing to eat, but that lingering scent? It’s a total nightmare. I would love to have it every single day, but there's just no way to kill that smell once it sets in. You can try brushing your teeth or using high-end body wash, but nothing actually works; garlic is just stronger than any hygiene routine. If someone like me—someone who is obsessive about cleanliness and spends way too much time perfecting every little detail around the house—can't find a solution, then what hope is there? Honestly, you just have to wait two days and hope it eventually fades away.

Somewhere in the middle of your description, that empathy you claim to possess seems to have gone missing.

So, look, Sophia Roberts21, what is the point of a chat called the Lounge Bar (chat & support)? It isn't designed for me to impress you or anyone else by being dramatic about my "attempted suicide" today. What modern society fails to grasp—and what is glaringly obvious from your comment—is that it is perfectly fine if someone doesn't feel okay.

What most people don't understand is that anyone who feels bad in any capacity doesn't actually want to feel that way.
And just because someone wants to help, doesn't mean they are capable of doing so in this exact moment.
Why? Because every effect has a cause.
Or, to put it in blunt, unrefined terms, every "why" has its reason.

That is generally why I find our chat's attempt at acting like a psychoanalyst—or rather, its imitation of one—so distasteful. Empathy should facilitate a deeper state of mind, an emotional clarity, and true understanding. Ultimately, it is simply about compassion.

Perhaps you should reread sections of your own post. You might think you are being empathetic, but to me, that empathy was lost somewhere along the way in your writing.

@Rachel Palmer56/">@@Rachel Palmer56, depression is a state of mind, much like happiness. This means it is absolutely fine for you to be happy, but it is not fine to be depressed. And that is slightly more complex than your self-realization that I might understand something less than you or anyone else who is "happy."

There are parts of the brain that dictate mood, such that you are hit daily by things that will logically trigger feelings of either joy or sadness later on.

The purpose of this chat was support and solidarity. Empathy meant understanding you and helping where possible. If we had shared similar bouts of madness, I could have used my own experience to tell you how I managed to pull myself through.

Yet, among the "first" comments here, there was an immediate urge to spit on what this chat is supposed to represent. My dear friends, that has nothing to do with empathy. Period.

The absolute worst thing you can say to someone struggling with depression is to just "snap out of it," tell them life is beautiful, or suggest they go smell the roses. 😳
Someone close to me battled depression for five years, and honestly, it’s a brutal disease. People tend to dismiss it because—hey, there's no visible wound, right?—so they assume it doesn't actually hurt. 😳
Getting out from under that weight is incredibly hard. Even when everything looks perfect on paper, you just don't see it—the roses don't smell like anything and everything stays pitch black.
Basically, your brain just makes a wrong connection and fails to process external stimuli the way a healthy person would.
It’s a constant fight. It wears down the people around you, but it wears down the person going through it even more.

Morgan Campbell4, have you tried hitting the gym when those dark thoughts start creeping in? Like, just hop on a bike and pedal until your legs are screaming.
Or maybe running.
Or hitting the weights.
What about meditation? Ever given it a shot? Personally, I'm still trying to master it, but if I can manage 5-10 minutes of actually clearing my head, I'll take the win.

And yeah, don't sleep on the power of autosuggestion. At least try it before you write it off as useless. 😉

If I "keep talking like that"? Are you actually attempting to threaten me based on what I wear to bed? I simply asked who wears them because, frankly, it seems like something for children. It was never my intention to insult anyone, nor am I claiming my opinion is the absolute truth. And what, exactly, are you implying by suggesting you can do something to me? Do us both a favor and just exit this chat. Thanks.

To get back to what actually matters, I’m going to completely ignore you, dustypilot11.

@analogowl4/">@@analogowl4 thanks.

@lepricorn They just don't grasp that the most vicious kind of pain is psychological. Often, victims of bullying would actually prefer physical confrontation over mental abuse. The mind heals, sure, but the mental images? Those stick around. They aren't easy—or fast—to erase.

I've tried everything: cycling, running, hitting the gym. It’s all fine, really, but when I'm left alone with my own thoughts, it becomes too much. I don't want to run away from myself, yet I have no desire to feel this empty. I gave meditation a shot; it wasn't for me, even though I respect the concept—it did help ease the knot in my throat for a bit—but I found a variation of yoga much more effective. As for the power of autosuggestion... hmm, let me tell you something. The difference between life and death lies in a person's "language." 😊
