@Sophia Roberts21/">@@Sophia Roberts21, oh, so you're saying you just choose who gets to receive your empathy? Is that how it works? Because people who aren't as critically ill or haven't endured some devastating lossβwhatever those definitions happen to be for youβdon't deserve your "compassion"? To be perfectly honest, you aren't actually empathetic; it feels more and more like hypocrisy is simply bubbling to the surface for you.
Well, you clearly read my last two posts, though apparently, they were nothing more than endless whining about how gray and miserable life can be to you? Itβs quite something, really, for you to claim you're so empathetic. I knew this forum had all sorts of personalities, but this entire off-topic meltdown is truly the peak of everything I've witnessed here so far.
And letβs look at the medical profession, shall we? A doctor helps a person regardless of their specific circumstances. Of course, naturally, they will prioritize someone in immediate mortal peril over someone with a minor wound, but the point remains: they provide aid regardless of whether the diagnosis is dire or relatively mild. Do you see the difference? You might think you're prone to empathy, but perhaps you're just under the illusion that you are. In my view, you simply aren't.
P.S. Empathy isn't a buffet where you pick and choose; it's a feeling you either possess or you don't. Feelings aren't something you selectively toggle on and off. But fine, whatever. What do I know? I'm just sitting here wallowing in self-pity, I suppose. π
Honestly, I don't even know what to say to you.
It is entirely possible that you are right; perhaps I am not empathetic, because I believe that if a person has no desire to help themselves, then providing them with assistance is ultimately futile. You cannot force help upon someone who seems perfectly content with their own downward spiral.
A man in the prime of his life, bursting with strength and capable of pulling a heavy weight without breaking a sweat? Please...π
My version of empathy would be pushing you to do a thousand push-ups rather than letting you cry on my shoulder and indulge in pity and self-indulgence. Because my empathy is designed to drive you to fight and succeed, not to sit there whimpering about how cruel the world is.
As I mentioned, I reserve my empathy for those who are battling severe illnesses or those who have endured profound loss and survived deep trauma.
A healthy, capable person should be able to take care of themselves and fight like a lion. If they don't love themselves and instead choose to squander their lives for nothing, why on earth would I feel inclined to love, value, or comfort them? π
This isn't hypocrisy; this is simply the most realistic, rawest perspective on the harshness of existence that there is.
Life is a jungle, my dear.
You are either the tiger or the prey. π
