But I guess when his kid does something pretty much identical eight years later, suddenly it's totally fine

Let’s get back to the actual topic at hand and stop pointing fingers at one another for trolling. If this constant bickering continues, I will have to start issuing penalties.

Michael Diaz4 said:Vettel totally smoked Alonso there—and he was driving an inferior car that just couldn't keep up on the straights. He was closing the gap through the corners, which proves who actually knows how to drive a line and who's just mashing the gas pedal... Real skill shows up in the turns, and that's where it was obvious Alonso was struggling with a slower machine...

Man, just go read Sebastian Vettel's own recap 👋

I mean, it's Vettel in a slower car—who hasn't already realized that? 😂

Even that isn't okay—which is exactly why I called him a German fraud 😉

I mean, you've got Vettel stuck in an inferior car. Who else is even wondering about this?😂

Vettel in a car that's just slower on the straights... what more is there to say?
Vettel, meanwhile, was slower on the straights so had to create a situation in which he was close enough to overtake.

Alonso's top speed on the straight actually outpaced what Vettel was pulling in that Red Bull Racing car...

What does it even matter? The Red Bull Racing car was faster overall—and besides, you don't just drive in a straight line, you've got to handle the corners too...

But that’s exactly the point—you actually answered your own question right there. On a twisty circuit, the edge always goes to the driver with more finesse, the one who truly masters the turns. And in that moment, that was Vettel. He might have lacked top-end speed on the straights, but he used those corners to close the gap on Alonso in the Ferrari. That’s how he made his move... he even tried pulling it off on the outside.

Red Bull Racing was just faster through the corners than Ferrari—that's why Vettel finally managed to get past Alonso...

Actually, no. It’s because Vettel is just a better driver who handles the turns more effectively. At the end of the day, it comes down to skill. It isn't just about "flooring it and squeezing the other guy out"—though, granted, you can only legally pull that move once per race...

Oh please, Vettel can't even beat Ricciardo, let alone claim he's better than Alonso... 👋

neonfox65 said:Come on, Vettel doesn't stand a chance against Ricciardo, let alone being better than Alonso. 👋

Of course he can, provided the car holds up and it starts raining... 😉 And honestly, plenty of drivers are better than Alonso... But just look at how he was closing the gap in the corners despite having a much slower car. On the straights, Alonso was significantly faster after the exit... Only the truly great drivers can pull that off.

I wouldn't even be surprised if you thought the entire grid was better than Alonso 😂

Hah.

Yeah.

What exactly is so funny about that?
All I see is a driver who, with his sheer driving talent, can actually push the car's top speed higher on the straights...

So, I guess those nine laps on dead tires and that flickering warning light on the back of the Ferrari didn't play much of a role in this, then?

Jacob White49 said:So those nine laps on fresh rubber and that flickering light on the back of the Ferrari didn't matter?

Not during an overtake at lower speeds, obviously. Ferrari just has more raw power on the straights...

Jacob White49 said:So, having tires 9 laps fresher and that blinking light on the back of the Ferrari didn't matter, huh?

Uhh, okay. So you're saying 15 laps of fresher rubber makes zero difference even with higher top speeds...
but somehow 9 laps of fresher rubber with lower top speed actually does make a difference...
I guess there's some kind of magic math happening with the number 9...
Nice logic there, ☕really nailed it.

Michael Diaz4 said:In braking and cornering speed, they aren't faster—obviously. Ferrari has the edge on the straights...

Alonso was running on nine-lap-old Pirelli tires... I’ll say it again: Pirelli
Of course he looked fast on the straights—he was nursing a chunk of debris, likely from that first-lap incident, while dealing with a DRS flap that wasn't fully sealing. That naturally kills your cornering speed. Between the dashboard warning light being lit, having to lift to save tires, and then that whole mess with the KERS battery... honestly, what are we even talking about here?
