Of course he looked fast on the straights. He likely had some debris stuck in his car from that first-lap collision, specifically in a DRS zone that wasn't fully closed. Naturally, that slowed him down through the corners. The warning light was blinking too—it was a mix of lifting to save fuel and tires, plus a nagging issue with the KERS battery. So, really, what are we even debating here?...

Ahem... Everyone is running on Pirelli tires. And how exactly did he manage to overtake Vettel? Was it just fuel and tire management then?...😂

Of course he looked fast on the straights. He’d been dragging some leftover junk from that first-lap collision through the DRS zone—which wasn't even fully closed, by the way—so naturally he was slower in the corners. The warning light was blinking too. Between lifting to save fuel and dealing with those KERS battery issues, what are we even talking about here?

So, you're telling me that Ferrari is actually way better than the Mercedes?
A car without KERS that's busy saving fuel is 8.1 miles/h faster than the Mercedes in a straight line. Good grief, it’s terrifying to think how fast they would've been if they hadn't run into issues.😳

A car without KERS that’s focused on fuel efficiency is 8.1 miles/h faster than the Mercedes in a drag race. Honestly, it’s terrifying to think how fast they'd be if they weren't dealing with all those technical issues.😳

Do we trust Zalons and his fan club, or just good old common sense...?😁

McNish

Fernando Alonso—definitely stuck in a slower car here—was basically fighting a war on two fronts. He had to defend like crazy while simultaneously babysitting those tires... which were ten laps older than Vettel's. Tough spot to be in.

Smart moves... ☕

A car without KERS that's focused on fuel efficiency is 8.1 miles/h faster than the Mercedes in the speed trap—honestly, it’s terrifying to think how fast they would be if they weren't dealing with all those technical hiccups.😳

How can you be so sure that speed trap wasn't recorded before the 20th lap, or while using DRS, unlike the Mercedes?

A car without KERS that’s focused on fuel saving is still 8.1 miles/h faster than the Mercedes in a drag race, so honestly, it scares the hell out of me how fast that thing would be if it didn't have all those issues😳

Just because it's faster in a straight line doesn't mean it's a better car. We've seen plenty of seasons where that turned out to be a total lie.
stormybadger8 said:What exactly is so funny about that?
All I see is the fact that there's a driver out there who, through sheer god-tier driving skill, can actually bump up the car's top speed on the straights...

And...?

Common sense dictates ☕

And what about this part...?

Sebastian Vettel, on the other hand, lacked straight-line speed, so he had to engineer a way to stay close enough to make an overtake possible.

Look, if you were actually making sense, you wouldn't be talking nonsense... you're claiming a nine-lap tire offset doesn't matter—you've basically said it all. Good grief.

😁

Look, I already said he was fast through the corners—that’s my take. The only difference between us is that you're giving the credit to Vettel while I'm giving it to Red Bull. Whatever, man...👋

What you're saying just doesn't make sense. You can tell who the real master is by how they handle the turns...

I'm pretty sure they caught the speed trap while he was using DRS... but from what I could see, Vettel managed to pick up about 10-9.3 miles/h more on the straight thanks to it, though his top speed didn't really seem to peak until they were pushing past 200-137 miles/h

I honestly think Leslie Javad was watching F1 for the very first time this past Sunday... claiming they were "fast through the corners" —well, obviously, man, but he can thank Adrian Newey for that, not himself. I mean, they don't call Vettel a four-time champion for nothing—that whole "exhaust pretender" nonsense aside. And look, if someone is struggling with rear wing stalling, the logic dictates they're going to be slower in the turns. Period. Then you hear, "but everyone is using Pirelli..." sure, everyone is, but if you weren't watching the race for the first time this Sunday, you'd know that the ideal lifespan for a Pirelli tire is about eleven and a half laps...

And yet again,

hahahahahha

Yeah.

Maybe you should switch to dressage?

I'd tell you what's funny, but I've been hit with a long-term ban. Still, I'm surprised you're even bothering to join this debate....

Give me a break. It’s basically eight laps and then you're sliding on a banana peel. 😢
Where on earth did he get "eleven and a half" from? 😂

darkmarlin16 said:Being faster on the straights doesn't mean the car is better. We’ve seen that play out plenty of times in previous seasons.

What on earth are you talking about?
A car that's faster on the straight is a better car on the straight. Period.☕

If a car is faster on the straight, it's a prestige issue on that exact stretch—which is basically impossible, so clearly, someone's lost their mind... and if that car is faster on the straight without DRS compared to a slower car using DRS, then damn it, DRS doesn't even matter anymore...

Another thing: if a car can pull off a faster lap, you call it a better car because, quite simply, it's better at doing fast laps. If it's out front, it's capable of cranking out consistently faster laps, making it a better car, plain and simple...
But if it's slow on the straights and ends up stuck behind someone with way more top speed after pit stops, then that car is useless for overtaking... you could literally call that the Hulkenberg formula.😁
It's not like we haven't seen a whole bunch of drivers get stuck behind Hulkenberg and realize they don't stand a chance on the straight or in the DRS zone against him.

If you can't see that, you're clueless.

It took him thirteen laps to sort it all out... a total four-way scam!

First of all, I really think we should stop being so critical of the drivers; I don't know about all of you, but personally, I found that duel absolutely thrilling.
Secondly, perhaps we could all start utilizing these resources if we want to avoid spreading misinformation:
http://macofan.com/en/index.php?page...nando%20Alonso

When you look at the data, it becomes quite clear that Alonso pitted eight laps before Vettel to pick up a fresh set of tires, whereas Vettel was given a set of used rubber during his final pit stop. Even then, the actual difference in tire age wasn't nearly as significant as some might suggest.
Furthermore, if we observe the telemetry, we can see that both Alonso and Vettel actually clocked their fastest laps on the very last lap of the race, which implies that neither driver was struggling with tire degradation at all.

Thirdly, I truly hope we have many more intense battles like this one to look forward to throughout the rest of the season. 🙂

So based on this, it looks like Vettel didn't even touch the hard tires?
Is that actually right, I guess?
