Home Premium, 64-bit—it’s going for about $300.

Stupid question, I know, but does anyone actually know... where did they hide that "shortcut" for moving files? Like, back in the Windows XP days, there was this 😁 so I didn't have to constantly copy stuff from my C: drive over to another partition first
... it just feels like everything was easier back then...

You think it's a cut? Look, you just pick whatever you want to move, hit Ctrl+X, and then just Ctrl+V wherever you want it to land. It's not rocket science.

He made a good point about using CTRL+X 🙂

Hey everyone, does anyone know where I can pick up some retail licenses for Windows 7? Thanks!

I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to for God knows how long. My PC is running Windows 7. Oh my god, it's great, but the hardware was originally built for XP, so I guess there might be some way to "downgrade" from 7 back to XP?

Why would you even want to switch to an older OS if your computer is powerful enough to handle Windows 7 just fine?

I am somewhat uncertain as to where the most appropriate venue for this inquiry might be, so I suppose I shall just post it here.
Is it actually possible to utilize the command prompt to generate multiple new directories simultaneously, in a manner similar to how one might execute such a task in Linux?

Furthermore, does Windows 7 include Movie Maker by default? I spent some time searching for it earlier today, though I must admit I was unable to locate it anywhere.

Oh, and one more thing—does Windows 7 actually come with Movie Maker? I went looking for it earlier today, but I couldn't seem to track it down anywhere.

I guess you could write a batch file with a loop to handle the folder creation.

Come on, give the guy an actual example. How is he supposed to build that batch file? You know, show him how to handle things like for loops, if statements, or while loops.

You can actually use the mkdir (or just md) command to build out an entire folder tree in one go. For example, if you type mkdir a/b/c/d, you'll end up with folder "a," which holds "b," which holds "c," which finally holds "d." Pretty handy.

Someone brought up using a batch file, but honestly, that feels kind of pointless—you still have to manually type out every single folder name in that batch file anyway, so you might as well just create them one by one.

Some guy tried to lecture me over a typo at 1 AM 😁

The real issue is the author didn't specify if we're talking about 3 or 4 folders or 500. If it's just 3 or 4, you can just use the md command—something like "md one two three eight"—and you'll get those 4 folders.

If it's 500, I guess you'd probably just run a batch file with a pre-generated list of folder names.🙂

To generate a quick batch of 20 to 30 folders,
in Linux, I simply type this:
mkdir {1..30}
and just like that, I have 30 folders numbered 1 through 30 ready to go. I suppose I should ask how one might accomplish something similar in Windows, since I am admittedly quite unfamiliar with the various Windows commands.

Got a question. A few months back, I picked up a laptop without an OS, and my friend's dad took it over to some local computer shop—won't name names—to get it sorted. They hooked me up for free with Windows 7 Professional and all the essentials like Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Then, two days ago, everything goes south: a black screen pops up saying 🙂
"Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of windows is not genuine."😢 What am I supposed to do now? The real headache is I have no clue if it was actually legit. You know how it is, big corporations like IBM or FedEx get these massive bulk licenses, so maybe they just slapped one of those keys on my machine. Plus, I'm not exactly on speaking terms with this friend right now, so I can't even ask him what happened.
Is there any way to fix this, or am I just stuck waiting for that 29-day grace period to expire?

You can usually snag a copy of Windows Home Premium for about $300.

In Linux, I just fire off this command:
mkdir {1..30}
and boom—thirty folders named 1, 2, 3, all the way up to 30, ready to go. I'm trying to figure out how to pull off the same trick in Windows, since I'm somewhat of a stranger to the Windows command line environment.

FOR /L %a IN (1,1,30) DO MD %a

Hey guys, quick question for you... so a few days ago I decided to beef up my rig with a beefier graphics card. Obviously, my Wei score for the GPU shot up, which was cool, but I also swapped in a new 1 TB HDD Samsung, and yet my overall score hasn't budged an inch... because of this drive, my total score is stuck at 5.9. Why on earth is my hard drive giving me such a low rating? I used to have a 320 GB Hitachi and it got the exact same 5.9, but this one is supposed to be faster and it's a full 1 TB, so I just don't get it... if anyone has any ideas or if there’s absolutely nothing that can be done, please let me know. I was thinking maybe there's some setting I need to tweak or something involving the drive, but who knows... heh. thanks
