I’m having zero issues sending or receiving through the Hotmail web interface, but my Windows Live Mail client just won't pull any mail in—it keeps throwing this error at me.

I can't send or receive anything from my xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com account.
Server Error: 4102
Server: 'https://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8DE00001

So, here's the setup: I have an email address through AT&T, and I set up a rule to forward everything over to my Hotmail account. The Hotmail side works perfectly fine, but then the messages just hit a wall when they try to sync to WLM on my laptop. Where could I have messed this up? Is it an incoming/outgoing setting issue, or does anyone know what this specific error even means?🤷

I can't seem to send or receive any messages on... xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com It counts, I guess.
Server error: 4102
Server: 'https://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Getting that 0x8DE00001 error in Windows Live Mail... I guess it's just one of those things. Maybe try checking your connection settings again?

I've got an email address at mail.att.net and set up a forwarder to my Hotmail account. Hotmail receives everything just fine, but then nothing shows up on my MSN Messenger (on my laptop). Where could I have messed this up? I'm looking at the incoming and outgoing settings, but I can't figure out what this error is even about.🤷

Check this out. Hey. Maybe this tutorial will help you out. 🙂

Check the servers:
The incoming server is... pop3.live.com
The Outgoing server is... smtp.live.com

If you're using AT&T for your home internet, I guess the outgoing server should be mail.att.net.

Maybe try deleting the account and setting it up again from scratch? That might just fix the issue. 🙂

Double-check your server settings:
The Incoming Server is pop3.live.com
The Outgoing Server is smtp.live.com

If you're connecting from home using AT&T, then your outgoing server should be: mail.att.net

Try deleting the account entirely and setting it up from scratch; that usually clears things up. 🙂

I actually fixed my issue by just adding a brand new account, and now all my emails are right there. That tutorial was a lifesaver!
But now I've got a new question: I set up an alias in Hotmail, but can I read that alias through Wind.live mail (and send from it too)? Basically, the Hotmail account shows up in MSN Messenger, but the alias doesn't. Can I get the alias to show up, or do I need to create a whole new Hotmail account? If I go the route of creating a new one, can I just add it to my existing setup, or am I forced to start a completely separate Hotmail account? My main goal is having everything land in MSN Messenger so I don't have to jump online constantly. Does that make sense? Or am I just rambling like a total newbie? 😕

uff Leo, you really made this complicated 🙂

Found something online that might help you out. From what I can gather, it looks like you'll need to set up an account and an alias for MSN Messenger.

I did—that’s my situation right now—but check this out: the alias is active in both Hotmail and MSN Messenger. Hotmail works fine; I can send and receive using the alias. But here's the kicker: I can send via Windows Live Mail, but I can't *receive* anything sent to that specific alias through it. What gives? I tried playing around with some data settings, but no luck. Where did I mess up?🤷

Not sure, 🤷
Is it giving you any specific error message?
If you can send stuff but can't get anything back, it sounds like an issue with the incoming (POP3) server settings. Maybe double-check what you have entered there.

pop3.live.com
mail.att.net
My primary email—I set up an alias and it immediately throws an error, so the main one needs to work too.
Plain text—yes
Authentication—yes

I tried all those other variations and they just throw errors right away. I can't send *or* receive anything. Now sending works, but receiving is still totally broken!!!!!!☕

Here’s the update: I finally nuked that old alias from my Hotmail and MSN Messenger, then tried swapping in a fresh Google account over on MSN Messenger. Everything is running smooth now—definitely a solid 5/5! Honestly, that one specific issue was driving me absolutely crazy and I just couldn't crack it; it wouldn't even take incoming messages. It's much better this way. Thanks for all the help!😉

Hey everyone!

How is everyone feeling about Windows 7 so far? I mean, looking at the big picture—is it actually a step up from Windows XP? Personally, I’ve been running Vista lately, and honestly, I’m just not feeling it at all... it's been a bit of a headache, which is why I'm itching to wipe it and install something else! I'm not entirely sure if my hardware plays a huge role here, but just in case it matters, here are the specs for my laptop (it's a Toshiba):

CPU
AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-82 59 °C
Griffin 65nm Technology

RAM
4,00 GB DDR2 @ 399MHz (6-6-6-18)

Motherboard
TOSHIBA Portable PC (Socket M2/S1G1)

Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1280x800@60Hz)
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon hd 3650 (Toshiba)

Hard Drives
313GB hitachi HTS543232L9SA00 ATA Devica (SATA)

I would really appreciate any advice or insights you all might have! 🙂

How are you guys liking this past week? Just wondering generally if it's any better than Windows XP. I'm running Vista right now and honestly, I'm not feeling it at all, so I'm looking to swap it out for something else. Not sure if it even matters, but here are my specs (Dell Latitude):

Maybe an Intel Core 2 Duo? I guess.
Intel Core 2 Duo at 59 °C, I guess.
Griffin 65nm Tech

Maybe I should look into some more RAM.
4.00 GB DDR2 @ 399MHz (6-6-6-18)

Maybe just a motherboard issue, I guess.
Dell Latitude (Socket M2/S1G1)

Maybe some better graphics would help, I guess.
Just seeing a Generic PnP Monitor (1280x800@60Hz) pop up.
512MB NVIDIA GeForce (Dell)

Hard Drives
313GB Seagate Hard Drive

Thanks a ton for the advice. 🙂

It feels pretty similar to Vista, I guess. I wouldn't recommend jumping back to XP though, since that system is kind of ancient by today's standards.
Before you even think about installing XP, I guess you should check if there are actually drivers available for your Dell Latitude. Most manufacturers don't really support XP anymore, so they probably stopped writing drivers for it a long time ago. 🙂

Forgot to mention, I've been using this OS since the day it dropped, and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it. Haven't had any issues at all, I guess. 🙂

Before you even think about trying to install XP, you really ought to double-check if drivers actually exist for your specific laptop; most manufacturers have moved on and stopped supporting XP entirely, which means finding compatible drivers can be a total nightmare. 🙂

edit: I realized I forgot to mention that I've been using Windows 7 since the very first day it hit the market, and I have to say, I am incredibly happy with it. I haven't run into a single issue... 🙂

Alright, in that case, I think I'll go ahead and install Windows 7 after all. 😉

For me, the week ahead feels like it’s going to drag on forever—actually, let's be real, it's going to feel like it lasts over two and a half years. Even an OS like Windows 8 wouldn't even be on my radar right now, especially since it lacks the Start orb, it doesn't have Windows Media Center, it ditched Aero... who knows what else they stripped away?
And don't even get me started on Windows XP. 🙂

Look, it's true that having only 433MB of RAM makes things move a bit sluggish by today's standards, but I honestly think you should just bite the bullet and upgrade. If you jump to 4GB, you can finally run a 64-bit version so the system actually recognizes the full 4 gigs. 👍

So, regarding the Taskbar—whenever I have several documents open at once, say five different Word files, it simply displays a single icon representing the application. When I click that one icon, I am then presented with the option to choose which specific document I want to launch. I was wondering, perhaps, if there is some way to configure this so that I actually see five distinct icons, essentially giving each individual document its own dedicated space on the bar?

Furthermore, I have a second inquiry: does Windows 7 happen to include some sort of built-in stopwatch functionality somewhere? I suppose I just need a simple way to measure elapsed time.

I’d definitely suggest going with Windows 7. You're probably just used to Vista, but Windows 7 is basically just a polished version of it. You'll like it much more, and it's certainly a better move than going back to XP.

also, does Windows 7 have a built-in stopwatch somewhere? just something to track time.

Right-click the Taskbar, hit Properties, and under the Taskbar tab look for "taskbar buttons." switch it to "Never combine" and hit OK. that should make every open window its own icon on the Taskbar.

Not sure about the second one. 😢

edit: found some Windows gadgets you can install that work as a stopwatch

I was wondering if there might be a way to pin a wireless icon directly to my Taskbar, so that whenever I see it—much like how I use the hotspot feature on my iPhone—it could glow green to show I'm connected. My goal is simply to have a quick visual cue that allows me to click and connect instantly, rather than having to manually scan through the entire list of available networks every single time I need to get online.🙂

Like, when I see it (on my phone, for instance, I always keep the hotspot active), I want it to light up green so I can just click it and be done. It’d save me from having to dig through the list of every single available network every single time. 🙂

Well, look, when you connect to a wireless network, there's usually an option to remember it. That means it just reconnects automatically once it recognizes the network.

Alright, here’s the deal. Has anyone actually managed to install Windows 7 64-bit over a Windows 7 32-bit system without losing all their data? I’m talking about an upgrade, not a clean install. Every single time I try, I get this pop-up telling me I can't install 32-bit on top of 64-bit. But it’s the exact opposite. It makes zero sense. Tried it on my laptop too, and I get the same error message. Total nonsense. How is this even possible? I have the 32-bit version, not 64-bit. This is just stupid.

Not happening, you're looking at a clean install.
