PS. maybe try installing that same 32-bit version over your current 32-bit installation again. Maybe then the bits will add up and you'll end up with 64-bit. 😁

How do I get rid of this... I don't want my links showing up as full pages like this

I'd rather they just show up as windows when I hover over an open program on the Taskbar... you know?

Ugh, alright, I’ve got a question too...
Why does my mouse occasionally just refuse to let me click down on the Taskbar when I have Chrome maximized? It works perfectly fine when I'm just browsing through folders or whatever...
I actually did a fresh format about a week ago, so the Windows installation is still brand new...

I did a fresh install about a week ago, so the OS is pretty much brand new.

Looks like others are running into this too. Here's a fix:

Go to the wrench icon in the upper right hand corner, then scroll down to the "tools" menu, and click on "Extensions." Then click either disable to stop it, or uninstall it all together.

Thanks, managed to get it sorted out somehow...
For now, the taskbar isn't being blocked, but we'll see if it stays that way...

Could someone please clarify the actual difference
between Windows 7 and Windows Vista SP2 with all the updates installed?
I recently picked up a used laptop that came with an original installation
CD for Vista, and I decided to set everything up at home on my rig—all five updates included.
Honestly, it’s running like a dream; it handles every game I throw at it flawlessly, and I couldn't be happier with the performance.
Prior to this, however, I was strictly a Windows XP user...

It flies like lightning, handles all my games perfectly, and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it.
I've mostly been using XP until now...

If you ask me, Vista felt more like a beta version of Windows 7. It just didn't sit right with me.
And obviously, Windows 7 has been the best and most straightforward version out there so far.
But hey, if you're enjoying Vista, go for it! 😉

I completely agree that it felt like an unfinished beta; I'm fully aware of how much of a resource hog it used to be.
But here's the thing: with all the modern updates they've rolled out, I honestly can't tell the difference anymore, aside from the UI.
A buddy of mine actually mentioned that their daily updates are practically identical now,
and frankly, I have no reason to doubt him...

Hey. I’ve got a question for you guys... so, right now I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on this rig: Intel Core 2 Quad q8400, 4GB of DDR2 (400 MHz), an Nvidia GTX 260, and a 1.3 TB HDD. Here's the deal... whenever I boot up or restart the PC, it hits that "Windows is starting" screen and just completely freezes. Every single time. Like, every time I shut down, hit reset, or whatever... basically, if I flip the switch on my power strip to 0, wait maybe two or three minutes, then flick it back to I and try to boot, it works fine. But I can't get back to Windows XP or any other OS without it hanging indefinitely... help???

Question: I installed Windows 7 64-bit on one partition and Windows 8 64-bit on another. I have 4 GB of RAM, but in Properties, both versions show 4 GB with "3.19 GB usable" in parentheses. Hold on a second. What's going on? Does 64-bit actually have limits like 32-bit does?

Not at all. Are we talking about a desktop or a laptop?

Either the graphics card or some other hardware component is siphoning off your RAM to function properly.

You gotta get into your BIOS under the CHIPSET settings and tell the system to actually use all the RAM you've got available... I ran into the exact same thing on my rig, so I just went in and fixed it myself...

Does anyone have any idea why my widgets might have suddenly stopped working?
I can't get them to open at all—not by right-clicking on the desktop and not through the Control Panel either. I've already tried disabling and then re-enabling them, but absolutely nothing happens. Just total silence.

True. Once I enable that, 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows 8 recognize and use the full 4GB, but 32-bit Windows 7 still caps out at 3GB.

Man, I'm just glad I could help you out with this, because honestly, you could've found info here about how those 32-bit versions can squeeze out maybe up to 3.50 GB of RAM if you're lucky... 🙂 catch ya later

I've finished installing Windows 7, but I realized I don't have Word, Excel, or any of those office programs on here. What's the best way to go about getting them?
