If Restore click it then click Advanced (else just click Advanced). **open should be in Bold**, if not select it and press set default."

I suppose this might be intended for Windows XP.

Thanks a lot, guys 🙏, it's fixed 👋

I have a question regarding Word
This morning, I noticed that its icon has changed. It’s no longer the standard "W" with blue lines on a white background; instead, it looks like a white window containing a smaller window with six colorful icons inside. Does anyone have any idea what this signifies?
Furthermore, how can I revert the icon to its original state? Naturally, I'd like the Word functions back to normal as well, though nothing seems to be working differently aside from the icon itself—it's just quite maddening. 🙂

Thanks 😉

Look, if Word behaves normally when you double-click it, then—I suppose—we aren't really talking about Word at all, but rather an issue with Windows itself.

What exactly do you see when you right-click the icon and select Properties? Specifically, is the "Change Icon" option grayed out or is it actually available? And more importantly, which specific program is actually launching when you double-click a Word document?

By the way—though it might seem obvious—it would be incredibly helpful in these types of queries to specify exactly which version of Word and which version of Windows you are running.

The Change Icon button is greyed out and I can't click it😢 but Word itself runs perfectly fine.

I'm on Windows 7 using Word 2007.

I suspect this started two days ago when I tried to paste an image from the web into a document. Ever since then, the icon looks different. It isn't that Word is broken; it's just that the icon looks terrible.🤷

I'm not even sure if this was asked before since this thread is over a hundred pages long, but I've got a problem.
Is it actually possible to have two Excel documents from the same folder open in SEPARATE windows AT THE SAME TIME??
If the answer is yes, how do I configure that in the settings?

thanks

Give this a shot—I'm still running an older version of Windows here, but the logic should hold up. Go ahead and open up your My Documents folder, then head over to Tools and pull up Folder Options. From there, navigate to File Type, and just give it a second to load. Once you're looking at the Registered file types, hunt down that .DOC extension. Click on it, and right next to "Open with:", it should show Word. Just hit Change to confirm everything, then click OK and you should be good to go.
I’d bet my last dollar that things were pretty much the same back in 2007. Everything just repeats itself, doesn't it?
P.S. This kind of mess usually happens right after you go and install some sketchy software or similar programs that just aren't worth the headache.

Maybe try running a System Restore to a point from three days ago?

Look, it’s not even a setting you change in the menu; it’s just how you handle them. Just open your folder, launch the first document, then minimize it—tuck it away down at the bottom. Then go ahead and open the second one. Once both are running, head up to the Window menu, select Arrange, and check the box for something like Cascade. Hit OK, and boom—all your documents are laid out right in front of you in a cascade. If you want to see a specific file that’s being covered up by another, just click on it and it’ll pop to the front. You can do this with a whole stack of files, really, just don't minimize that very last one... leave it sitting there in its Window so you can actually work on it.

It’s wild how much you can dig up just by using Google. Google We can definitely cut down that wait time if we want to.

- Wanna see more windows at once in Excel? Here's how.
- Splitting Excel windows.

Bet you spent an eternity digging through hundreds of pages of this thread to find that. 😉

So, I'm trying to figure out how to get a massive document to actually print on a standard sheet of paper in Excel 2010.
Basically, I’ve got this table that’s way wider than a normal sheet of paper (I'm using Landscape mode), and now I'm stuck wondering how to squeeze the whole thing onto one single page.
I definitely need some kind of resize trick here.

Is there something similar to what you'd find in Adobe, like "Page Scaling -> Fit to printable area" or whatever?

Well, you can find that right there in the Page Scaling settings.

Man, I seriously can't find it anywhere.
You would be a total lifesaver if you could help me out, because I honestly thought that option didn't even exist 🙂

If you can't get it to work through the standard Print menu, try heading into the Zoom settings. Look for Page Scaling, set the paper size, click that little dropdown arrow, and select Letter. That should do it.

My apologies, I misspoke there. I was moving too fast and misread the thread—this is actually about Word.
For those working in Excel, give this a shot: go to Print, then Properties, hit Landscape, and head into Advanced. In the Paper size field, just pick Letter and hit OK. Hopefully, that solves the issue for you.

I need to generate some reports where every sheet has a border. However, when I apply the border, it shows up as dots instead of solid lines. Can someone explain how to fix this?

Go to "Borders and Shading" > Style and pick the line you want. Click it, and you're done.

So, every time I download a PowerPoint presentation, it won't just open. Instead, it keeps asking if I want to repair it. But when I click yes... nothing. It just throws an error and I can't get into the file at all. Weird thing is, any other presentations I already have saved on my PC open up perfectly fine.
Anyone figured this out yet? Thanks...

Hey there, I figured I’d drop this here rather than cluttering things up with a brand-new thread...
Does anyone happen to know the best way to print four small pages onto a single sheet of US Letter paper?

You actually have to tweak the printer settings right before you hit the button. Look for "Settings," "Options," or something similar—basically where you’d go to change the paper size. There should be an option there that lets you decide how many pages you want to cram onto one sheet. You can also find stuff there like switching between black and white or color.
