I downloaded a form from the web that I need to fill out on my computer.

Every time I open it in Microsoft Office and try to type on those lines (for my name, address, etc.), the line just moves along with the text I'm typing...

So... am I supposed to be using a different program for these, or am I just not great at using Microsoft Office?

They basically show you exactly where to plug in the info. Just go ahead and clear those out once you've typed in your first and last name...

Thanks so much... I really hope this works out and they don't send it back to me...

Also, how am I supposed to check the boxes? 😁 And then there's the handwritten signature... looks like I might just have to print this thing out after all.

If you can’t actually "get inside" the little house icon, just go to Insert > Shapes, pick the line tool, and draw an X over it twice.

Just double-check one thing—could this be a form meant for printing followed by manual entry? But then again, wouldn't they have sent it as a PDF instead of an unlocked Word doc, right?

You'll need to sign it by hand, using either your left or right hand.
So, once everything is filled out, just print it, sign it, and then send it off.

Is there a quick way to jump straight back to the specific cell I found after filtering a column?

This is definitely the quickest way to go.

Kyle Johnson2 said:Just set up a Drop-down menu to act as your criteria and then lean on the VLOOKUP function in Excel. Honestly, you’d make your life so much easier if you just gave that data range a proper name—it makes working with all those formulas way less of a headache.

So, I went ahead and tried out those functions and it technically works, but it's still acting a bit funky in certain spots 🙂... I've attached the file here, so if you have a spare second to take a look, I'd really appreciate it.. thanks!

Just type the cell address into the Name Box and hit enter.

I don't touch *.exe files. Upload it as a *.xls or *.xlsx file for download

I was wondering if someone could walk me through how to get Excel to recognize dates from an image as seasons. Specifically, I'm looking for a formula—or maybe just a way to format things—so that it identifies the season based on the date and then lets me sum them up into their respective cells on the right. Do I need to change the date format first to make this work?

Here’s a formula to pull out the quarters. It doesn't align perfectly with the seasons, but hopefully, it does the trick for you!
If your dates are sitting in cells A2-A100, just pop this formula into column B2-B100.
=IF(MONTH(A2)<4;"I";IF(MONTH(A2)<6;"II";IF(MONTH(A 2)<10;"III";IF(MONTH(A2)<=12;"IV";"ups"))))
- This will look at the date and spit out the quarter number—I, II, III, or IV—right next to it. You could swap those out for season names if you wanted, though they won't be scientifically accurate, or anything else you like—just make sure the counting formula below matches what you type here!

Then, how many dates actually fall into each quarter? You can grab those totals using this formula:
=COUNTIF($B$2:$B$100;"I")- Just put the formula next to "Winter," then "II" next to "Spring," and so on...

Thanks,
but I was actually looking for a Ctrl + something shortcut to jump back to my previous selection—the one I had highlighted before...

Basically, I apply a filter for a specific client, find the row I need, select it, and then clear the filters. Since the database is massive—lots of rows and columns—it resets my view back to A1. Now, I want to be able to jump right back to that specific cell, say AA4301, with just a click or two so I can work on that row...
I'm trying to avoid scrolling manually through all that data...

The real headache is that when I'm working within filtered rows, I can't seem to insert new rows below the selection—only above...

Give this formula a shot (I'm slammed right now)
Code:
=CHOOSE(MATCH(MONTH(A2);{1;4;7;10});"winter";"spring";"summer";"fall")

or check this out
Later on, just use COUNT to get your totals

Just split your window into two panes.
Keep whatever you need at the top visible, then use the bottom pane to jump to the cell you're actually editing.

btw: maybe hunt down some VBA code so you can just hit a shortcut key and teleport right to that cell.

I need some help setting up a chart in Excel.

Here's the situation: I have survey data with about 100 responses. Right now, if I have answers like a, b, c, and so on, my chart is a mess—it's treating every single response as its own individual data point... which isn't helpful.

What I'm actually trying to do is get Excel to recognize that there are only three specific categories, then calculate the percentage for each one—instead of just plotting all hundred entries individually.

Thanks

Kate Foster12 said:Basically, I'm stuck. I can't figure out how to make it recognize there are only three values so it calculates the percentage for just those, rather than giving me a value based on all hundred people.

Just swap the row/column in the chart properties

That wasn't really the issue, but thanks anyway. I managed to figure out the solution on my own.

Don't just keep it to yourself.
Every single solution needs to be posted right here on the forum, because who knows? Someone else might run into the exact same wall you did later on.
That’s just how we all handle things around here. Honestly, if we don't share, there's really no point to having a forum at all.
Best,

I’m honestly hoping someone actually understands my question and can give me a simpler way to do this than what I’m currently stuck doing.

Right now, I’m pulling specific data into a separate sheet, summing up the responses, and then building a chart from that—and so on. If anyone knows a more straightforward method, please let me know. This current process is taking forever and is a total headache...

"You really should have just uploaded the file for us to download so we could actually see what you've been working on and how much effort you put in." Kyle Johnson2 has typed out this exact sentiment—and dozens of variations of it—a million times already. But hey, let's all stop and listen to him, shall we? For the good of the group, obviously.
