Steven Nguyen87 said:Why is that such a big deal? At least the guy is actually being consistent—hitting the gym regularly—and if he wants to focus on specific muscle groups, that’s his business, not anyone else's! Plus, asking which proteins are best is a question half the people on this thread ask anyway...

Well, because it is.

He's asking which protein is the best way to go.

Wants an answer? Easy: chicken, turkey, eggs, low-fat cottage cheese, fish, red meat...
That's your protein list right there.

If he just wants some whey protein to supplement his diet after a workout, honestly, it doesn't even matter which one he picks. That supplement isn't some magic potion.
Whether it's Dymatize elite whey, MyProtein, or Bulk Nutrition (though some people swear those give them the runs), it's all pretty much the same thing.

And it's not like drinking it is suddenly going to make him massive, lol.

Seriously though, for starters, it's probably best to just head over to Google and search for "proteins," then move on to carbs, and then fats.
Google actually knows its stuff.

So, I'm looking into ordering some supplements from Canada—specifically thinking about grabbing either the Optimum Nutrition Gold Whey or the Elite Whey, and adding an extra $40 on top of that. I was wondering if anyone could clarify what the deal is with customs duties or sales tax? Since I'm based in Charleston, I assume it would be delivered via FedEx or a similar carrier. Thanks in advance!

Just wondering if I'll get hit with customs fees or sales tax and all that... I'm in Charleston, so it'd probably come through via FedEx or something. Thanks.

If you want to.

So, I was just wondering, if the product itself is priced at $45, what would my total come out to once everything else is factored in? What’s the final amount I should expect to pay?

Where on earth are you finding Optimum for only 40 bucks? As far as I know, they go for at least $44 everywhere else.
You're looking at a total cost of roughly $70-$80 for that package because you have to factor in customs and sales tax applied to the combined price of the goods and the shipping.

The price is $45, but if the customs duty is around 33%, how am I supposed to end up paying $75 or $80?

Honestly, don't even bother trying to order protein from Canada... unless you really enjoy getting absolutely fleeced by customs fees. It’s a total scam.

Man, if everyone could just snag products at those Canadian prices, life would be easy—we'd all be doing it, right? But alas...

I usually just buy my stuff from these guys who trek all the way from Washington, D.C. down to Canada to pick up supplies, then flip them on forums and stuff.

Basically, I can grab some Gold Whey for like $50, instead of paying $60+ at our local shops here.

So, look—if you're actually trying to save some cash, just stick to gym forums or checking local marketplaces. Trying to order straight from Canada? You're just asking to pay more in the end...

You've got your wires crossed. You're looking at the price before tax. Their price for Optimum Nutrition is actually $44.99.
It isn't just a matter of paying customs; you have to deal with sales tax too. That percentage is applied to the combined total of the item plus shipping. So, if the product is $44.99 and shipping to Charleston is, say, $9, then the customs and sales tax are calculated based on that $53.99 total.

redranger82 said:It’s honestly a waste of money trying to order protein from Canada because customs will absolutely skin you alive.

If everyone had the same access to those Canadian prices, we’d all be doing it, but that's just not how it works.

I usually just buy my supplements from guys who travel from Washington, D.C. to Canada to pick them up, then flip them on forums and marketplaces.

Basically, I can snag some Gold Whey for about $45 instead of paying $55+ at our local stores.

Bottom line: if you want a deal, stick to gym forums and Craigslist. Trying to import directly from Canada will likely end up costing you more in the end.

Our local shops don't carry Optimum Nutrition for less than $167, and it'll probably hit $80 soon once global market prices spike.
On top of that, finding anyone with Optimum Nutrition in stock for $117 on the classified ads is nearly impossible now that the Canadian prices have already climbed.

Thanks for the help, everyone! I've heard some rumors floating around online that certain protein supplements might not be totally legitimate on marketplaces like eBay, so I want to be careful. Could you please share two or three specific listings for either Elite Whey or Gold Whey that you've personally ordered? I’d love to see the exact sources you trust and know have actually worked well for you. Thanks so much!

About two weeks ago, I picked up a few things from bodybuilding.com in the USA for roughly $40, and they just showed up today without any extra fees or surprises

Yesterday, I pulled the trigger on some Optimum Nutrition Gold Whey (about 5 lbs) for $45 plus $10 shipping from a shop over in Canada. I'll let you guys know when it arrives...

There is no way you can get Optimum Nutrition in Canada for 41 euros!🤦
Give me the specifics. What exactly did you buy from bodybuilding.com? You claim there were no customs or "extra costs," and somehow it arrived in just two weeks. Normally, you're looking at a three-week wait minimum.

You've been misinformed. That kind of nonsense usually comes from people running local supplement shops here in the States. Most of the stuff you see on those marketplaces is shipped straight from Canada and comes in the original factory packaging.

slydriver52 said:You definitely won't find Optimum Nutrition for 41 bucks in Canada!🤦
Come on, give us the specifics. Tell us exactly what you ordered from bodybuilding.com, how it arrived without any customs fees or those "extra charges" you mentioned, and how it showed up in just two weeks... usually, it takes at least three.

Regarding whey sourced from Canada...

As for BB.com, I grabbed two tees, a caliper for tracking body fat, a shaker, and some push-up bars... they even threw in a free NO-xploda scoop for good measure!

So, I paid with my credit card on May 4th, and it just landed at my doorstep today with absolutely zero extra fees...🤷

Edit: To be more specific about the BB.com order, the total was exactly $42.95 plus the slow shipping—not sure of the exact amount, maybe between $10 and $15. They estimated 8 to 20 days, and mine actually arrived in 15 days!

Does that answer your question? 🙂

Do me some favors and grab a calculator. If you add 8.5% to 41.47, you'll find exactly what the total price looks like including tax.
I was under the impression you hadn't ordered supplements from bodybuilding.com yet. Next time, try placing an order for something around $35 or $40 just to see if you get lucky enough to dodge customs fees and sales tax. Besides, that $40 includes shipping, which definitely isn't cheap for whatever gear you picked up, but even then, ordering from them still makes sense.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could point me toward someone truly reliable for buying protein? I'm torn between Elite Whey or the Optimum Nutrition Standard 100% Whey from Amazon, but honestly, with these skyrocketing customs fees and sales taxes hitting us hard lately, I'm feeling a bit cautious about where to drop my money. Thanks in advance!

ironpanther3 said:Hey everyone, I could really use some advice here. Which vendor can I actually trust if I want to order some Elite Whey or Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey from an online retailer? Honestly, between the customs fees and sales tax, it feels like we're just getting ripped off at this point. Thanks.
