jadedrifter2 said:Look, I'm not gonna lecture you—everyone else already said what I was thinking... but here’s a real-world example of how some guy actually made bank at the sportsbook (you gotta have a massive bankroll for this, though!). He picked one specific team in the NHL and just hammered the draw/tie every single time. By the end of the season, he was up big. If you’ve got the stomach and the cash to ride out the swings, that's the play.

I'm assuming you aren't talking about doubling down after a loss. Besides, betting on a tie is basically just pure luck anyway.
A similar move would be betting against the favorites in MLB, especially during the second half of the season.
If you're thinking about using a Martingale, it's a one-way ticket to bankruptcy sooner or later.

it's not about doubling down—you just need a draw once every four games to break even, and honestly, seeing ties in the NHL isn't exactly rare if you actually bother to look at the season stats

It really pays off if you’ve got a healthy bankroll. I tend to bet on hockey quite a bit—it's where I make most of my money, actually—and when things go sideways for me, 90% of the time it's because of an NHL tie. It’s easily the most balanced league out there; anyone can beat anyone on any given night

Last season, the NHL saw tie games pop up about 24.1% of the time. If you’re looking strictly at the math, the fair odds should have been sitting around @4.15.

Whatever, though—it just takes me back to when I was obsessively digging into the Martingale system during the 2002/03 season. I remember the Pittsburgh Penguins went on a run where they played roughly 15 games without a single draw. Or take Lugan—I can't recall the exact season, and it wasn't even the NHL, just some random trivia for the road—but they went over 30 rounds without a tie. In the NHL, you occasionally see a team pull off a massive win streak of over 10 games in a row... Honestly, it doesn't strike me as a winning strategy, even if you decide to bet the draw on every single matchup; the payouts are tiny or the thing just won't happen. For instance, back in the 2007/08 season, there were "only" 21.9% ties, meaning the break-even odds would’ve needed to be @4.57 to make sense.

If you've got a massive bankroll, it works. I bet on hockey all the time, it's my bread and butter, and most of the time when I take a hit, it's because of an NHL tie. This league is freaking parity personified; anyone can beat anyone on any given night.

Making money off ties is nothing more than a lucky streak. Don't kid yourself—those odds are baked specifically to account for years of historical data. Sure, you might catch a hot streak for a bit, but in the long run? You're almost certainly going down the drain.

Hey there,

So, I placed a bet on a slip at a local PSK yesterday, though I do have an active online account with them.

Now I’m wondering—is there any way to actually credit a winning ticket directly to my account balance, or am I strictly stuck with using a credit card for deposits?

The biggest perk of a place like DraftKings is being able to walk in and pay cash, so you don't have to mess around with credit cards, vouchers, or whatever else. Basically, if you hit a winner, you just head down to the shop, talk to the clerk, and instead of stuffing the cash in your pocket, you give them your account number or username and they deposit it right there. Then you walk out empty-handed, but feeling pretty good knowing you can keep playing from the comfort of your own couch later.

It’s simple: if you hit a big winner, you just stroll over to the clerk at the shop, give them your account number or your username, and tell them to drop the cash straight into your online balance. You get to walk home empty-handed, sure, but you leave feeling pretty good knowing you can just sit on your couch later and keep the action going.

Honestly, I don't see the issue with that approach, it's just that I don't live in America...

Well, now even I'm at a loss for how to help. Throw an idea my way, and maybe we can sort this out. Perhaps the sportsbook could resolve the issue regardless of the fact that you aren't in the States. It's worth asking.

So, when I enter my ticket, it shows my winnings, but my account balance is sitting at zero. Does anyone have a customer service number for the sportsbook so I can actually get some answers?

Well, you can't just magically transfer a physical ticket bought at a retail location straight to your online account—you actually have to head down to a branch for that. If you happen to be out of the country right now, your best bet is probably just doing a bank transfer.

By the way, make sure you don't let the legal deadline pass for claiming your winnings, or you'll be out of luck. 😉

You can find all the contact info and the fine print over in the thread about gambling in general.

Jamie Rivera78 said:Gambling always comes with horror stories, mostly because people have zero bankroll management skills. If you can't handle your money, it doesn't matter if you're betting on a 1.01 underdog or a 1.80 favorite. You'll end up in the same ditch.
Better to take a tiny win than to go bust.
The idiots taking out personal loans to cover betting losses? They clearly don't know how to manage a budget.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Wait, so you're dropping $1.5k on 1.01 odds? 🤣🙏

If you lose just once—and trust me, it happens—you’d need to win 100 times just to break even. Is that actually worth it? Sorry, but I've never heard anything stupider.

Hold up, you're seriously dropping $1.5k on 1.01 odds? 🤣🙏

If you catch just one bad beat—and yeah, that happens more than you think—you’d need to hit 100 winners just to break even on that single loss. You really think that's worth it? Sorry, but I haven't heard anything stupider in my life.

Look, I never said I was slamming 1500 bucks on 1.01 odds. And I definitely didn't say I play 1.01 every single day. I've said this a dozen times already.
All you critics attacking low odds need to tell me: are high odds actually better? What's the "sweet spot" for betting? For me, it’s always been about finding value. Period. Like, take the Ireland-USA game—the line was 1.01 for under 6.5 goals. Based on my math, it should have been under 5.5. That makes it a smart play. I know guys who constantly bet on 3-3 draws and stuff like that. Not one of them has ever seen a profit.
So why don't you tell us: are you actually up or down in the long run? You can call my methods stupid all you want, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is the bottom line. That's how you see who's actually investing and who's just throwing money away.

Hey everyone, I’m looking to go big on Real Madrid against Dinamo Chicago—trying to secure some serious wins for my wife, the house, and even my mother-in-law if the stars align. Does anyone know which major US online sportsbooks are offering the best odds right now? I've been checking around, and earlier today I saw one sitting at 1.34, but within just a few hours, it had already slipped down to 1.25. 😢

The thing is, I know the local betting shops here won't let me push more than about $70 or $80 on a single ticket, so it looks like I’ll be spending my afternoon bouncing from one brick-and-mortar location to another just to get the action I want.

Just hang tight until game day—that specific matchup is almost certainly going to be a lock at the local sportsbooks, because that’s usually how these things play out. I’m eyeing odds somewhere around 1.35-1.45 for Real Madrid.

Thanks, but I think I’m actually going to put some money down now. Honestly, I doubt they’ll offer anything higher than 1.35; they’d have to be out of their minds to do that. Real Madrid is going to absolutely demolish this match—it feels like the lock of the century, and even with a decent price, you can't pass it up. I’m planning on putting together a little handicap combo, just so if things don't go perfectly, I can at least break even.

I know you’ve been around the block and really know your stuff, so I wanted to ask: do you happen to know if any of the local sportsbooks here are already taking bets on this specific matchup, or should I just stick to the big online sites like FanDuel?

Appreciate it. 😉

The odds just dropped at our local spots (SS, Lottery, DraftKings—didn't bother checking the rest)—everyone’s sitting at @ 1.30 for Real Madrid

I'd bet anything the odds will be higher by game day, but hey, do whatever you want

I'm having some trouble getting my payout from DraftKings
I topped up using my Electron card—standard checking account stuff—but now when I try to pull my winnings back to that same card, it won't let me
Can anyone walk me through how bank transfers work? Like, is that actually an option, how does one go about it, etc...
Let me know what methods you guys usually use for withdrawals on DraftKings
Also, just a heads-up, I don't have a Skrill account set up, so if anyone has suggestions on how to get my cash out without using that, I'm all ears
Thanks 👍

Eric Fox7 said:Just wait until game day—that parlay will likely be a "slam dunk" at our local sportsbooks, because that’s just how it goes. I’m predicting Real Madrid will sit somewhere around 1.35-1.45.

It won't even hit 1.43—if they offered that against a draw at 5.5 and a Dinamo win at 12 (at DraftKings), you'd have a surebet on your hands. Bookies don't exactly promote those, especially not during Champions League matches.
That 1.43 figure includes a 5% margin, which makes it closer to 1.36 online... it isn't going any higher than that. 😉
I highly doubt our domestic books will offer anything north of 1.35.
