Keith Bennett38 said:Hm, looks like Microsoft really messed this one up. Found a fix on a forum, though. Apparently, there’s a little arrow—like a tiny triangle—next to the Imported Folders under storage Folders. You have to click that to actually see the imported messages.

Original message:

Re: Can't import messages into Outlook

Sorry if this seems obvious and you've already done it, but you said

"and it's creating Imported Folders under storage Folders"

well if you click on the imported folders it will say "There are no items in this view" but there should be an arrow beside the "Imported Folder" icon, click on the arrow, it should expand and show another folder, probably with your email on it, click the arrow beside that one too and your messages should be in there.

Sorry if you've already tried this I know it seems a bit obvious. In my opinion its a stupid design because you could click on the folder and think you didn't import the messages, when really you just have to click on the arrow beside the folder.

Tried everything. Nothing worked. Eventually, I just wiped everything and re-imported, and it worked fine that time. Honestly, I think I did the exact same thing as the first time, but whatever. The point is, it's done, and I still can't believe it. Thanks again to both of you for the help.😉

Can anyone tell me how much RAM Windows 7 usually eats up once it's up and running? I'm seeing about 950MB used out of my 2GB total—it feels like a bit much, doesn't it?

So you're asking how much memory the OS takes up...
Look, you've only got 2GB of RAM total, so honestly? That doesn't seem like much at all.🙂

Given that you're working with 2GB of RAM, don't you think that might actually be plenty for what you need? 🙂

If he's running into any lag or performance hiccups, he might want to try disabling the Aero theme to see if that smooths things out.

You can definitely run Windows 7 on 2GB of RAM without much trouble, though I have heard from quite a few folks that they run into some frustrating performance issues when trying to play games on those kinds of specs. Honestly, if you can grab another 2GB, you'll be in great shape and everything should run smoothly; it's such an inexpensive upgrade these days. ☕

hey everyone... so I've got this little situation going on, if you could even call it a problem, haha. xD. I'm running Windows 7 Professional with 4GB of RAM, a 1GB graphics card, and an Intel Core 2 Quad 8400. Anyway, I hooked my rig up to a Samsung TV, so I'm rocking Full HD resolution—that's 1920x1080, right? Correct me if I'm wrong about that part. The thing is, whenever I try to play games, everything just feels kinda sluggish... I mean, it isn't totally freezing or anything, but it’s definitely not smooth. It's weird because I used to have this tiny 14-inch monitor (yeah, I know, pretty pathetic, laugh all you want xD) with a resolution of 1024x768, and man, games absolutely flew on that thing. Everything was lightning fast, even on high settings and stuff. So now I'm just sitting here wondering why... my PC shouldn't be weak, especially since I'm pulling a 5.9 on my weekly performance rating. That's it. If anyone can help me out or has some advice to throw my way, let me know. THANKS!

Otherwise, you can totally run Windows 7 on 2GB of RAM without much drama, though I have heard plenty of people complaining about gaming being a total mess back then. Honestly, just go grab another 2GB and you'll be golden, it's dirt cheap ☕

Haha, look, I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium on my little tiny laptop with only 1GB of RAM and it runs smooth as silk, even with Aero turned on and everything. Nothing tweaked, just straight out of the box. If his setup is stuttering, he seriously needs to check what kind of RAM he actually bought. Like, if his motherboard expects 800MHz but he's running some slow 400MHz sticks, obviously it's gonna be a disaster. (I've been there myself) ... if I'm tripping, let me know. 😉

Look, just dial back the resolution in the game settings. It doesn't strictly have to be HD; try dropping it down to something a bit lower.

Windows 7 is actually a pretty solid new OS, and I’m planning on making the jump. Can I just do an upgrade from Windows 98, or am I looking at a full clean install? Also, is there any way to run the installer from a floppy disk or a USB stick? My DVD-ROM finally kicked the bucket.

If you’re still rocking a machine running Windows 98, honestly—don't even bother dreaming about upgrading to Windows 7. It's just not happening.

Hey everyone, could someone point me in the right direction? I'm trying to figure out where in Windows 7 I can change the settings so my computer stops shutting itself down after a little while... basically, it seems to go into sleep mode after about 30 to 60 minutes, and then the whole thing just powers down—though it does wake back up once I move the mouse again. Does anyone know where I can toggle that off??

just right-click -> personalize -> screen saver -> change power settings. -> pick High performance -> then change plan settings. you'll see sleep mode or hibernate or whatever there, just set it to never. hope that helps you out... 🙂

Just switch it over to High Performance, then head into "Change plan settings" where you should see options for Sleep mode or Hibernation—whatever works best for you. Hopefully, that gets you sorted! 🙂

thanks 👍

I began reading through this thread, but I eventually found myself losing heart, so perhaps I might simply pose a question instead. Having migrated from Windows XP to Windows 7, I find myself in a state of total disorientation; everything feels fundamentally foreign. Having grown accustomed to Mozilla, I am now confronted with Bing 😁, and my taskbar seems to have vanished entirely. Does anyone know how one might locate it? I would be most grateful for your assistance

well why on earth are you even using Bing? you definitely have Internet Explorer installed... just go to their site, grab Mozilla 6, and you're good to go. at least if I actually understood what you were asking... 😉

So, what exactly is a toolbar anyway? It’s kind of a random thing if you haven't messed with the settings before. If you want to get one showing up, just hold down the Alt key and head over to View, then hit Toolbars... or whatever you need. Simple enough!

If you're missing the menu, here's how to fix it:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ernet-Explorer

And if you want Firefox, just type Firefox into the address bar and hit enter, then IE should show you what you need to download and install 🙂

I actually have one more question... 😁 I just finished installing Windows 7, and when I checked the system settings, it says I have 28 days left to activate—so I was wondering, what exactly happens once those 28 days are up?

The OS might shut down on you🙂

You can basically extend that activation three times for 30 days each, here's how:
