Hey everyone, just had a quick little question for you all,
I’ve got a fresh install of Windows 7 running on my machine right now
Does anyone know if I actually need to bother with SP1, or is it worth it? I was talking to my mentor and they were telling me I shouldn't even touch it because it might end up slowing down my whole rig in the long run??

I know there are about a thousand different opinions flying around out there, which doesn't help much when you're stuck deciding what to do,
Also, for some reason, this thing feels incredibly sluggish—this is actually my second attempt at getting a successful Windows 7 installation up and running, so I'm really not sure where the bottleneck is coming from
My antivirus is AVG, and it keeps throwing these annoying pop-ups saying that Mozzil is hogging something like 500ish xxx (of whatever) and suggesting I just close and reopen Mozzil again!

My specs are as follows http://www.shopmania.com/notebooks/p...2mnsk-22956607

Thanks, guys

Personally, I haven't seen SP1 or any of the updates released so far slow my system down one bit,
but if you look at the forums for Firefox, people are complaining left and right about how much RAM it's devouring lately. My suggestion? Just roll back to an older version. Honestly, if you’re running 4GB of RAM, you shouldn't even be losing sleep over Firefox grabbing 500MB; RAM is meant to be utilized, not just sit there looking pretty for decoration.

Go ahead and install SP1; you won't see any performance hits from the update itself. Given your current hardware specs, everything should be running smoothly, including Firefox. I'd suggest running a scan with Malwarebytes just to ensure you aren't dealing with any underlying malware or spyware issues.

It’s definitely a better move to go ahead and install SP1, and honestly, I’m hearing for the very first time that anyone would even suggest it slows down your computer 😂

Hey, thanks again for all the help, everyone. So, the thing is, the PC just starts getting hot, the fan kicks into high gear, and that’s where all the noise comes from. I actually picked this machine up back in September, but honestly, I've dealt with this exact same kind of issue on my older rigs too. I got Windows 7 installed less than a week ago along with AVG, and I already ran a full scan, so everything seems clean, yet I still can't wrap my head around why I'm seeing this specific error message.
Regarding SP1, does anyone actually know what the upside is? Because like I mentioned, a few people were telling me there wouldn't be any real improvement from installing SP1. By the way, is that self-assessment score supposed to be a 4.5??

Look, here’s the reality of your situation: running Windows without SP1 or any updates makes your system as full of holes as Swiss cheese. That’s problem number one. Number two? If you actually want to run modern applications, they’re going to demand that you have SP1 installed. If you don't have it, they simply won't work. Period.

Look, I already stripped them out via Windows features, so now I'm feeling too lazy to go back in and turn them back on, I was just asking for the hell of it, haha

Those last two questions were truly something else... I have to wonder, do you come up with them all on your own, or is there someone helping you out?

So, Douglas Garcia52 finally rolls up to see if anyone's still out here trashing the week by claiming XP was somehow better than everything else we have now. 😛

@swiftdriver30, look, you’ve definitely got some talent, but honestly? If we were actually being real here... 😉 -you're also pretty illiterate 😁 (checking back at that post on the previous page)

Man, don't even start with me! :P I wrote that perfectly fine😁 and instead of picking on me, you could've actually helped me out with my question...

Instead of just tearing you down, maybe he could actually help address the issue regarding 👍

Look, swiftdriver30, given how much RAM you’re packing, you really shouldn't be running into issues with gadgets—unless, of course, some of those non-Microsoft ones are dragging down your startup speed. They basically just need extra time to load onto the desktop before things feel snappy.

I was wondering if there's actually an alarm clock app built right into Windows 7... basically just something where I can set a specific time and have it start ringing when the moment hits?

I think the AIMP player—kind of like Winamp—has an alarm feature baked right in.

Just grab it and you've got 😁

not sure about a weekly thing though (didn't bother looking)😬

Does anyone know how to fix this? Why does it keep happening?
I mean, the PC seems to be running fine otherwise, but there's clearly an issue whenever those yellow exclamation marks pop up.

thanks

Right-click, go to Properties... what does it say there?

It says:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
