Hey everyone!

I’ve got a Dell Latitude c660d-10l on my hands. Here are the specs:
Processor: Intel Core i3 single core
Memory: 2GB DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce Series (40 SM4.1 500MHz, 256MB 1GHz 32-BIT Integrated Graphics)

I'm wondering if I can upgrade this thing to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Just to be clear, I checked the Dell website and they have all the necessary drivers for Windows 7 64 bit listed. My main concern is the 2GB of RAM. Do you think the 64-bit version will actually run okay, or am I just asking for trouble?

I am not sure why it wouldn't work... it will work fine...

Besides, why are you pushing for 64-bit Windows?

So, what’s the reasoning behind pushing for 64-bit Windows?

There are certain programs out there that simply won't run on a 32-bit system.

And why bother installing a 64-bit OS? It’s completely pointless when you're stuck with a measly 2GB of RAM.
Besides, you're dealing with a single-core processor here—you can't just patch your way out of hardware limitations with software. No matter what you try, it won't change reality.

Well, it’s not recognizing it in the sense that it isn't showing me that there's actually anything in the burner—which worked perfectly fine back when I was running Windows XP—so right now, I can't burn a single thing.

So, what kind of software are you actually running to try and burn things? And more importantly—what kind of error message does it throw at you when you attempt to start the process?

I find myself quite perplexed as to why the network icon continues to load for a full twenty seconds after all the other desktop icons have already appeared. 😕

Assuming the internet connection itself is working fine, maybe try reinstalling the network card drivers.

So, I just figured out that Windows 7 doesn't play nice with my old printers from back in '06 and '08, which is a bit of a headache. For now, I've decided to roll back to Windows XP until I can get something newer.

Can someone please give me a step-by-step on how to pull up the virtual keyboard?

Edit: Got it figured out. 🙂

I'm curious, what kind of coffee makers are we talking about here? Brand and model? 😢

hey,

I've got this 2TB WD Green drive with a single partition holding some files,
I'm planning on installing Windows 7 on it soon since it's just been sitting there acting as storage, so I was wondering if I can split the drive into two partitions during the install process...
Like, could I set aside maybe 200GB for Windows and leave the rest for my data? Specifically, I want to know if my current files will be okay—does the drive have to be empty to resize the partition? I really don't want to wipe the whole thing and start from scratch...

thanks

I've got this 2TB WD Green drive that currently just has one single partition holding all my files,
and since I'm planning to install Windows 7 on it pretty soon—given that it's mostly been used as a storage drive until now—I was wondering if it's possible during the Windows 7 installation process
to split the drive into two separate partitions? For instance, I'd love to set aside about 200GB specifically for the OS, while leaving the rest of the drive as a data partition where my current files already live. I'm really hoping I won't run into any issues with my existing data, because I don't want to have to wipe the whole hard drive clean just to create a new partition.

Thanks!

Just a heads up, Windows is going to feel pretty sluggish on that drive because it's only spinning at 5400 RPM, whereas most standard drives you'll find these days run at 7200 RPM.

My Hitachi drive is currently sitting in my laptop 5400, and while I know things would definitely pick up the pace if I swapped in a 7200 RPM drive, it isn't actually performing that terribly slow right now.

But can I still pull off what I asked?

Is it actually doable to jump from Windows 7 Starter straight up to Home Premium using a disc
?
All I can find online are these instructions for upgrading through some Windows Live upgrade tool via the web
.
If there's a way to just pop the disc in and do it, does anyone have a solid tutorial they could point me toward😁?

You definitely can, you just need to create one more partition first, and the best part is you don't have to format anything at all☕

I can only find instructions for upgrading through the Windows Live Upgrade tool online.

If it is doable, does anyone happen to have a tutorial for this😁?

not really🤷

I checked that out, but honestly, I’d probably just go the old-school route and run it straight from a disc😁

Since it looks like the usual way isn't an option, I'm wondering how the install actually works once you get past that hurdle—like, when I kick off the new setup, will it just roll right over everything using that starter, or am I going to have to go in and manually wipe some stuff out first?
Is this something that’s going to be a total headache or more of a breeze to pull off?

Quick heads-up—if I totally missed the mark on the topic, mods, please feel free to move this.

I'm running Vista, and I need to figure out how to log in as an administrator rather than just a standard user (you know, using my usual username and password when I boot up the laptop). I recently installed some software that apparently requires admin privileges to actually run—it won't launch through my regular user account.

To give you more context, I'm trying to get AutoCAD working, and I was trying to apply a patch to get it running, but it just didn't work. I tried a few different fixes, including running things as an admin, but nothing else seems to have done the trick—so now I'm looking at the admin route.

So, how do I actually log in as an administrator? Like, where do I find the password and all that? I’d appreciate a detailed breakdown.

Thanks! 😉
