Joshua Garcia3 said:So, what kind of burner are we talking about here? Manufacturer and model? 😢

The real headache is figuring out if the burner is actually compatible. Believe me, I learned that lesson the hard way. My first attempt was a PIONEER DVR-111D from back in 2006, and the second one was some random brand from 2008 that just wouldn't cooperate.
IMPORTANT:
Before you try installing anything on older machines, you really ought to head over to the Microsoft compatibility pages. Aside from the usual system checks, make sure to run a specific search for existing burners by typing in the exact model name to see if it'll play nice.

I have to admit, I haven't run into this specific burner incompatibility issue yet. Besides, according to Microsoft's own site, your PIONEER DVR-111D is listed as compatible:

http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/com...2FRW&os=64-bit

Maybe you're running some weird version of Windows. 🙂 It seems a bit strange that an OS like Windows 7 wouldn't support both of your burners at once. 😁

Look, in my case, the exact same burner installed just fine on Windows 7, and I didn't bother checking Microsoft's site at all.🙂

Which disc are we even talking about here? You actually have this? http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Wind.../dp/B002K7C1HG

I've got Windows 7 Ultimate—is that good enough, or should I grab Home Premium instead?

So, I'm basically calling it quits on the upgrade and just going for a clean install from scratch.

When I installed Starter, I didn't realize what kind of limited version I was dealing with, so now I can't even change my desktop wallpaper🙄,and who knows what else it's blocking me from doing😕, so I'd rather just wipe the slate clean while there isn't much on the laptop yet.

thanks

Just watch yourself with that partitioning stuff. If you haven't done this before... you'll probably mess something up and end up losing all your data.😢

My advice would be to use a third-party tool to set up the partitions first. Once you've carved out a blank space for Windows, then you can start the installation.
I don't remember perfectly, but I'm pretty sure you can't really do it during the actual Windows installation itself.🤷

So, yeah—I'm calling it quits on the upgrade thing and I'm just going for a clean install.

When I installed Starter, I didn't have any clue what version I was even running—now I can't even change my desktop wallpaper🙄, who knows what else it won't let me do😕, so I'd rather just wipe it all out now while there isn't anything important on the laptop yet.

Just go for it like there's nothing to lose—wipe the C drive during the installation and call it a day.

I was almost tempted to suggest you might be running some kind of weird, unofficial version of Windows 🙂 It’s honestly a bit wild to me that a single operating system like Windows 7 wouldn't support both of your burners at once. 😁

Yeah, I suppose you've got a point there. I'll dig into it a bit more.
Thanks!

It isn't an issue with my network controller, as I actually stumbled upon this specific notification while digging through the Event Viewer;

The EventSystem sub system is suppressing duplicate event log entries for a duration of 86400 seconds. The suppression timeout can be controlled by a REG_DWORD value named SuppressDuplicateDuration under the following registry key: HKLM \ software

Does anyone have any insight into what might be causing this particular problem? 🤷

You’ll start seeing those duplicate events once the log files hit a certain size—it’s just one of those things—so your best bet is to just wipe all the logs in the Event Viewer. Clear everything out, then give it a quick restart and see what actually shows up in there after the dust settles.

But how exactly am I supposed to clear them?

Hi everyone, I just picked up a laptop with Windows 7 installed on it. I was wondering if there's any way I could use that same Windows 7 license on a desktop PC I'm planning to get for my kid? I don't have the original CD though... thanks.

Since I don't have the original installation disc on hand, I'm not sure if it's possible to reuse it for the new setup. Thanks!

Unfortunately, you can't 😉

Hey everyone
So here’s the deal... I was running Windows 7 Ultimate for a long time, but eventually, my product key started acting up. I just ignored it and kept cruising along until my PC started dying mid-game. I couldn't get through even five minutes of gameplay without everything crashing. I'd get those "ATI drivers stopped and recovered" errors, and if I tried to jump back in, the whole thing would just freeze. It's definitely not an overheating issue. I did a fresh install of Windows, but the same thing keeps happening—now it just freezes and restarts during basic tasks. Sometimes the screen goes black, other times it turns pink, or the colors just go totally haywire. Like, blue turns to pink out of nowhere. Now I'm stuck wondering if it's just a driver glitch or if my GPU is officially toast.
Thanks in advance! :-)

Just right-click on the log—super simple—and then select 'clear'.

To honestly sounds like an issue with your graphics card to me. If you have a moment, try swapping that GPU into another machine and let me know if the same thing happens there.

I just ran a hash check on my Windows 7 installation using those official files from Microsoft, and it failed miserably!
Now I’m stuck having to hunt down a different version on another forum, burn it to a disc on a completely different PC, and then start the whole installation process over again from scratch. 😢
Thanks again for the heads-up, seriously.

Is this an issue specific to my setup, or is someone else dealing with this too?

I went ahead and cleared that log, and now Windows 7 has gone ahead and disabled all my services automatically; I have no sound, no internet access in my browser—nothing.

I spent quite a bit of time struggling to revert everything back to how it was, yet here I am, facing the exact same problem again. 🤷

Brian Campbell36 said:Is this happening to me, or am I just looking at someone else's headache?

After I cleared out that log file, my Windows 7 went into a bit of a meltdown and automatically shut down all my services; now I've got absolutely no sound and my web browser won't connect to the internet at all.

I spent quite a while tinkering around to try and restore everything to normal, but unfortunately, the exact same issue keeps popping back up.🤷

Noup, for raca Boy 😁
