Quick question for anyone running a dual boot setup (Windows XP and Windows 7): I’ve currently got XP running, but I’m about to pull the trigger on installing Windows 7. I was wondering if games already installed on my XP partition can actually be launched once I'm in 7? Or, on the flip side, if I install something directly in Windows 7, will it work over in XP? Honestly, I'm just trying to avoid having to install the same game twice and wasting a ridiculous amount of GBs on my drive. Thanks.

So, I noticed some people were asking about sound errors... yeah, me too, but honestly, I haven't found a single useful tip online. I'm running an ASUS P5PL2 motherboard—tried installing the audio drivers straight from the motherboard CD, but it wouldn't budge. It gave me some error about needing a graphic signature or whatever. Does anyone actually know which specific drivers I need to grab from the ASUS site to get my sound working? I've had this 64-bit setup running for a week now.

I'd really rather not install everything twice and waste all that hard drive space. Thanks.

Look, you're dealing with two completely separate operating systems here. Any program you've got sitting on your XP partition will need to be reinstalled on Windows 7 if you want to actually use it there. Since you're choosing which OS to boot into right at the start, they basically act like two different computers.
It’s the exact same deal with your games. 🙂

A buddy of mine who’s running the same dual boot setup with Windows XP and Windows 7 tells me he just grabbed the shortcuts for his programs directly from the XP partition—I actually went through the trouble of installing everything manually. Honestly, looking at what my colleague is doing, I don't see the point in having access to games from both operating systems!

It depends on the specific program or game. If it just copies files over to Program Files, you can probably run it from anywhere. But if it starts messing with the registry, then it’s a different story altogether.

So you mentioned the registry
what software are you using to clean it? I've been running CCleaner and Glary Utilities lately, but is there anything better out there?

I went ahead and installed Microsoft Office myself, but is that actually worth the trouble? I mean, it hasn't caused any issues for me so far, but you can never be too careful when it comes to this kind of thing.😬

Is there any way to tweak things so that when I click on All Programs, it actually looks like it did back in the XP days, instead of everything being all crammed together in one giant mess like this?

And honestly, at least it isn't half-screened like before. This way is much more convenient.

So, are you clicking on All Programs right next to the search bar?
In my opinion, it’s probably like five times faster to just type part of the program's name into the search box than it is to go hunting through All Programs.

Yes, you can.

God, the way those two things look together is just hideous. It’s an absolute eyesore. I'm finally ready to get rid of this mess—should I just go ahead and return it now? But wait, if I do, I still have it running on XP, so what am I supposed to do for the rest of the week? This is a total disaster!

I AGREE!!!! 🙂 I'm not being aggressive, just expressing how I feel! 😂

Does anyone happen to know of a solid little gadget or app for keeping an eye on my CPU and GPU temps, overall system stats, and stuff like that? 🤷

I download everything from here. I won't touch pirate sites after catching a virus on one once. Original software is what matters. At least to me...

I’ve combed through everything. The only ones I managed to track down require Everest to be running in the background, which is just super clunky for me. Ugh... seriously, how hard can it be to find a better option? I honestly can't believe this... 🙂
