Thomas Hernandez21 said:Oh, absolutely! Just do a quick search for "Windows docks" online and you'll find plenty of options to see which style fits your setup best 🙂

I managed to get everything downloaded and installed earlier this morning, so thanks a million 😉😉

Keith Bennett38 said:1) Just switch the theme back to a standard Windows theme, or
2) run a system restore to a point before you ever touched that theme.🙂

I've already tried both of those options, and absolutely nothing is happening.😢

Run a full virus scan on your computer because if things don't look right after you revert back to the default theme, you might be dealing with a worm or a Trojan.

Give me a break! My PC is perfectly fine. I just installed fresh Windows, ran a deep scan with Norton, and used CCleaner to scrub the registry... there's no way it's that bad.

edit: figured it out 🙂

Look, I was planning on posting this later, but since the guy wasn't online, I might as well just drop it here:
I downloaded this file, imported it into the registry, and boom—rebooted the PC and it works perfectly.

Your post was moved a long time ago to where it actually belongs:

Is there some kind of software or a workaround I can use to get those older games running on Windows 7? I’m talking about stuff like Suffering: Ties That Bind or Pirates of the Caribbean. Apparently, Windows 7 has these permission issues where it won't let you install certain game files or just refuses to load them... or maybe I'm totally misinterpreting what's happening? I heard about this "take ownership" tool that lets you grab control over your own files... but honestly, would it be easier to just wipe everything and go back to XP??? Thanks in advance!

Once you’ve installed the game, just right-click the desktop icon, head into properties, and set it to run in XP compatibility mode. That usually fixes everything.

Is it actually possible to install Windows 7 using a USB drive? If so, how do I go about doing that? My laptop doesn't have a disc drive... thanks in advance

I’m running Windows 7, and frankly, I’ve found that using Compatibility Mode is a total waste of time. It has never once worked for me. In my experience, if a game is going to run, it runs; if it isn't, then some little checkbox in the settings isn't going to magically fix the underlying issue. It's just a placebo. Right now, I am trying to get the original 1999 version of Rainbow Six up and running. The installation went perfectly fine, but the moment I try to launch the game, the screen flashes black for a split second before crashing back to the desktop with an "Appcrash.. error c000005" message. I have a strong suspicion that this is a DirectX conflict, given that Windows 7 comes with DirectX 11 pre-installed. I even went ahead and installed DirectX 9 manually, but that didn't solve a thing. Does anyone actually know what might resolve this so I can finally play this old classic?

My Windows desktop gadgets are completely bugging out on me. Every single time I try to launch one, I just get that annoying "program has stopped working" error message popping up in my face. It’s super frustrating. Does anyone actually know how to fix this mess?

It installed just fine, but as soon as I try to launch it, the screen flashes black for a second and then kicks me out with an "Appcrash.. error c000005" message. I'm thinking maybe it's a DirectX issue since Windows 7 comes with DirectX 11. I already tried installing DirectX 9 but no luck. Any ideas on how to fix this so I can actually play this vintage gem??

Hold up a sec, did you get DirectX with 7? Do I need to install DirectX 9, or should I be looking at the newer 10 or 11 for Windows 7?

I might be repeating something already discussed on page 76, but I don't have the patience to scroll back through everything, so let's just get to it.

Here’s the deal: I installed a new Hard Disk Drive in my PC and decided it was time to wipe everything and install Windows 7. I pop the disc in, the installation starts, I set up my partitions, and then—nothing. It hangs at 0% for a while before throwing a "file missing" error, basically implying there's an issue with the DVD. I tried a different disc entirely, but when it hits the "read boot from CD" stage, it just sits there. Let's assume for a moment the discs themselves are perfectly fine.
Since I'm running a brand new Hard Disk Drive, is there some BIOS setting I need to tweak to make this work? That seems to be the only logical explanation.

Any help would be appreciated.🙏

Maybe your DVD drive just kicked the bucket?

So, here's the deal: I put a new Hard Disk Drive in my PC and decided to just go ahead and install Windows 7. I pop in the disc, installation starts, I set up the partitions, but then it just hangs at 0% for a while before throwing a "file missing" error, basically acting like there's something wrong with the DVD. (It worked fine on other computers). Then I try a different disc, and when it hits the "read boot from CD" stage, it just sits there doing nothing. (Assuming the discs themselves are actually fine).
Since it's a new Hard Disk Drive, is there maybe something I need to tweak in the BIOS to get this working? That's the only thing that makes sense to me, I guess.

Any help would be appreciated.🙏

Honestly, it sounds like you might have an issue with the DVD drive itself.
Maybe try installing via a USB stick instead, if you've got a 4 GB one lying around.

Since you managed to set up the partitions on the Hard Disk Drive, the drive itself should be fine.

I'm fairly certain the Hard Disk Drive is fine. I can see it clearly, and as I mentioned before, I managed to set up partitions and start the installation from that one CD without any issues. It’s possible the DVD drive is the culprit; it's an older model, but I've been testing it over the last few days and it seems to be functioning perfectly fine.

It just occurred to me that on some laptops, there's a specific setting in the BIOS used for Windows XP and Windows Vista. We ran into a similar situation once where a Windows XP installation froze halfway through until we adjusted those BIOS settings.
So, I'm wondering if we might be dealing with a similar BIOS issue here?
