Here is what you currently have in your Macro editor:

Code:
.SaveCopyAs ("c:\Temp\Backup of " & .Name)

Just change the file path; leave everything else exactly as it is.

Code:
.SaveCopyAs ("D:\Temp\Backup of " & .Name)

or

.SaveCopyAs ("D:\ARCHIVE\Backup of " & .Name)

This specific part of the code => Backup of " & .Name) => DO NOT TOUCH 😉

Look, I'm telling you, I tried leaving it alone and created a Temp folder in C:\, but nothing saved there. Then I tried changing C:\ to D:\ since that's where my documents are kept—still nothing. Finally, I tried removing the "Backup of" part and the filename entirely, and still no luck. Every single time it saves, it just dumps the file in whatever directory the .xls was launched from, regardless of what I typed in. It's as if there's some other identical macro running somewhere before mine even starts. 😢

How does one handle this when I have a paper about 15 pages long, where the page numbering needs to start on the third page—meaning the count begins on page three, while the first two stay blank?

You’re gonna need a section break, just Google it

I honestly don't even know what to tell you.
That's all I got for ya.
Download it. This is it. Stick the file somewhere on your hard drive. Create a C:\Temp folder on your C: drive, unpack the file there, then run Book1.xls. Update the data and hit that Save button. You should end up with a copy sitting right in C:\temp.
If this doesn't fix it, I'm stumped. Let me know what you ended up doing.

Hey.

Nope. Just start a new seminar and hit save immediately. The sooner you get moving, the sooner you're done.

Hey everyone, quick question
I’ve got this massive block of text sitting in Word 2010, but it’s one of those plain versions without any special characters or accents. I really need those symbols added in. Does Word actually have some kind of built-in feature where I can just select everything and have it automatically convert or fix them, or am I seriously stuck doing this manually piece by piece?

The text is absolutely huge, so manual work would be a nightmare.🤷

😕

Just grab some software, figure it out, and run the text through a spell checker.

Microsoft Office doesn't offer a built-in way to do that.

Maybe you'll get lucky if you check here.

Maybe you'll have better luck over here.

Actually, I ended up finding that Word does have that option; it really hit me how great of a DTP tool it can be when you dig into all its different features.

The only thing I can suggest left is this:
Download THIS file and save it somewhere on your hard drive. Create a folder at C:\Temp, unzip the file there, open Book1.xls, update the data, and hit the Save button. You should find a copy of the file sitting in C:\temp.
If that doesn't do the trick, I'm out of ideas—let me know what you ended up doing.

Best,

I downloaded your file and spotted the discrepancy... I'm not entirely sure why it happened, but it might help someone else:

1. On my machine:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal _
SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
With ThisWorkbook
.SaveCopyAs ("c:\Temp\Backup of " & .Name)
End With
End Sub
--------------------------------------------------
Sub moja()

End Sub

- essentially - when I tried to run or save the code you told me to paste, a dialog box popped up asking for a routine name. I think things got a bit tangled, so I just hit ALT+F11 directly from the document and pasted it straight into the macro window.

2. In the file you sent over, there isn't anything in there except for the specific snippet you wanted me to insert:

Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal _
SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
With ThisWorkbook
.SaveCopyAs ("C:\Temp\Backup of " & .Name) 'path to the archive folder
End With
End Sub

At this point, I suspect I'm making some sort of fundamental error. I figured I'd ask here because I'm sure others will run into this same confusion without knowing where they went wrong, just like me. 😢

Edit - I should mention that your version works perfectly fine. 😁

Honestly? This is just extra fluff. Totally unnecessary.

Kyle Johnson2 said:this is completely unnecessary and redundant.

The problem is, if I delete it, the system just asks for the subroutine name again, and once I type it back in, it just recreates the file in the exact same folder as the original one.😢

Whatever—I think I'll just copy the sheets over to your template instead. It’s easier than dealing with all this headache trying to figure out why a leaky faucet won't stop dripping.😢

Alright, fine. It’s just a temporary fix, but heads up—if you try running another macro later, things might break again.
Can you just toss that glitchy file—the one that keeps copying itself into the same folder—into the drive? Here's the link to grab it.(Clear out the data.) I only care about the global state within the Workbook. You want me to hit you with some extra code for that?
Can you just hop into the VBA Editor, go to Tools > References, and grab an Alt + PrintScreen of that dialog box? Then just paste it onto a sheet in the Workbook.
Hey.

Hey everyone...
I have a bit of a question here, if anyone happens to know the answer... it would be a huge help...

Is there actually a way to create a link within a Word document that would automatically pull images from a specific folder and drop them into pre-designated spots?

So, in theory... you would set up a path in the Word document—let's say, grab all the images from C:\Users\Desktop\ATM_Photos\55-11010033
and then have it pull images from another folder like C:\Users\Desktop\ATM_Photos\44-11010022, placing each individual image into its own specific, predetermined location within the document.

I suppose it would be somewhat similar to how a Mail Merge works in Word, where you're pulling data from an Excel spreadsheet into specific fields in a Word file.

thanks

Kyle Johnson2 said:Fine, let's try this as a temporary fix, though you might run into issues again once you start working with other macros.
Could you upload that problematic file—the one copying itself into the same folder—here for download? (Just make sure to scrub any sensitive data first.) I really need to see what's happening at the global level within the Workbook. Is it being caused by that extra code you added?
Also, could you open the VBA Editor, go to Tools > References, take a screenshot (using Alt + PrintScreen) of that dialog box, and paste it onto a sheet within the Workbook?
Best regards,

It looks like you meant to include a link but missed it—I'll send you a DM.🙂
Edit: Actually, I won't DM you, but feel free to email me if you reach out; my Gmail address uses the same handle as my username.🙂

cosmicbison19 said:So... basically, I want to set a path in a Word doc—like pulling images from C:\Users\Documents\BankPhotos\FolderA,
then grabbing images from C:\Users\Documents\BankPhotos\FolderB and dropping each specific photo into its pre-set spot in the document.

You can pull this off using Mail Merge in Word 2007 or even Word 2003.
One big catch though: you’ve gotta use MERGEFIELD and INCLUDEPICTURE by manually punching them in with CTRL+F9.

Nah, didn't forget. I was actually waiting for *you* to upload that file to a host—like http://www.dropbox.com/ or whatever—and then just drop the download link right here.
