if cell B2 has a 1.. and I want to change that 1 to a /
yeah... I'll probably need to add an extra cell to get what I actually want..

is it really that hard to swap two characters in two cells?

you're being vague, just mentioning two cells. ???
Are you pulling those two cells into a different spreadsheet later or what.

If there's a ton of these cells with 1s and 2s, just hit Replace All.

You could also just use the formula =IF(B2=1;"/";"//")

The issue here—and I think he’s missing the point slightly—is that he actually wants to put that formula directly into cell B2, which... well, isn't exactly how things work in Excel. 🙂

Yeah... I definitely overthought things a bit 🙂...
It's all sorted out now. Thanks, everyone...

I'm looking to copy a formula from one sheet over to another
basically, I want to link the sheets together so the cells stay connected

for example
if cell A1 on Sheet1
contains a formula, I want that value to show up in cell B1 on Sheet2

Go ahead and type an equals sign into cell B1 on Sheet 2. While that cursor is still blinking, just hop over to Sheet 1 and click on the cell you want to pull data from—let's say A1, like you mentioned—and you'll see the formula pop up right there in Sheet 2 (B1):
=Sheet1!A1. Basically, it’s grabbing those details from Sheet 1, and if you need more, you can just click and drag it down to copy the pattern.

- Or, you know, you could just manually type that formula into Sheet 2 (B1). I just wanted to show you how a formula actually "builds" itself.
- And once it's there, you can toss in plus signs, minus signs... whatever you need!

As for this specific part I was stuck on... I figured it out. It's working now. Thanks.

I'm looking to use an Excel macro to generate a brand new Book1.xls
and save that file directly to my desktop...
I also need to grab specific content from my main workbook, copy it over, and save it within that new file...
Is this actually doable?

Of course it’s possible, but I think you really ought to be a lot more specific about how you actually envision this working. 🙂

Well... let's put it this way...

I've got a file...Book1.xls
In it...Sheet1..
I've got these spreadsheets sitting here—just a mess of cells packed with all sorts of different formulas.
I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here. You only sent "iz". If there was more to your thought, feel free to send it over. Sheet1I'm using a macro to copy specific cells over to a new sheet. Sheet2 (Book1.xls)

u Sheet2..(Book1.xls)
I'm trying to run a macro to sort some copied cells...
That’s just depressing. Sheet2 Ready for what? Extraction. iz Book1.xls

So... I’d probably just pull out a specific section of the content from... Sheet2Since that file contains a sorting macro, I’d just grab the actual data—minus the macro itself—and paste it into a brand-new workbook. Sheet1...new Book2.xls

Book2.xls
...would just move it straight to the desktop.
Or, if it’s actually doable... just create a folder, give it a name, and leave it at that. Book2.xls Just save it into that folder on your desktop, or wherever you want it on your hard drive.

That’s pretty much how the movie plays out in my head.

or if we're feeling fancy.. make a folder.. name it.. then dump Book2.xls right in there on the desktop or wherever else on the drive...
that's basically how I'm picturing it

For one part of what you're looking for, check HERE , and for the rest, look HERE and HERE—or just Google 😉

Hey everyone...

I have a bit of a question.... I've been trying to use this guide to merge several different images together, but I seem to be running into a bit of a snag.

I've followed every single step in the tutorial exactly as it's laid out, but for some reason, I keep getting hit with this error message...

image

It won't actually pull the image in; instead, it just tells me the link is invalid... which is strange because I'm pretty sure I set everything up correctly.

image

If anyone happens to have an idea what might be going wrong...

thanks

I download a PowerPoint presentation in .pptx format.
Then I try to change the extension to .ppt—basically just stripping away the 'x'—and it still refuses to open? What am I doing wrong? Help!

Hey, my cousin is working on this school project using Excel and needs to set up some tables similar to the ones in this picture. I was wondering how to actually build those other two tables... you know, how to move them around so they stay separate? Thanks

You aren't getting anywhere with this.

In Excel, cells don't come with borders by default—if you just hit print without doing anything, you won't see a single line on the page.

You have to actually select the specific range you want to outline and then apply the borders manually. On your screen, everything might look like it's all on one continuous sheet, but once it hits the paper, it’s going to look like three separate, disconnected tables (simply because the surrounding cells haven't been given any borders).

That’s not really how it works. 🙂

Go ahead and download then install the Microsoft Office Compatibility pack.

It’s happened to me a few times while editing documents...
I've been using backspace and delete, but then suddenly, Word starts deleting everything to the right of my cursor too. I was working fast and honestly can't figure out which specific key combo I hit to trigger this. Does anyone know how to fix it? I just want to go back to normal typing without it eating the text ahead of me.

In Excel, cells don't have borders by default—if you print it like that, you're just going to get a blank page with no lines.

I get that... I know my way around Excel pretty well, actually, but these two tables below the first one are acting weird compared to the top one. For instance, if I try to adjust a column width, the whole thing shifts—like Column D or an entire row changes. What I'm trying to figure out is how to have two separate tables stacked on top of each other in the same document but with different column widths, while still being able to type data into both...
