I am having a bit of a struggle here—I just can't seem to get these values from column E to aggregate properly.
Here is the file in question http://www.2shared.com/document/8Z4w...d_poziva.html? so if anyone might be willing to walk me through the steps to make this work, I would truly appreciate the help.

Just go to Insert, then Page Numbers, and make sure you uncheck "Show numbers on first page."

Charles Cox60 said:but can you actually list out every single combination?

How about this: Put the numbers 1 through 20 in column A, then go into cell B1 and drop in this formula: =IF(A1=1;"";COMBIN(A1;2)). Once that's set, just drag the formula down from B1 all the way to B20.

Understood—but how exactly am I supposed to convert something like 01:12 into 1:12?
I have a massive amount of cells here—practically a million, if you can believe it—so there is absolutely no way I can go through and fix them all by hand.

I have a tiny little million cells here if I want to do that manually.

Just select that "tiny little million" of cells and format them as h:mm.

It simply won't work—no matter how many times I try. I selected the entire range and went under format/cells-number-custom to select h:mm.
Then, I highlighted all those cells again and clicked autosum, expecting a miracle, but all I get is that stagnant =SUM() formula sitting there at the bottom
. When I attempt to manually type out the formula, specifically =SUM(E4😈88), the result stubbornly displays as 0:00
.

Maybe try re-entering those values after you've finished formatting

I went ahead and reformatted the cells and even tried re-entering all the values from scratch—but honestly, I'm still staring at the exact same result.

Quick question here...

Can you actually pull this off in Google Sheets?

I don't want to bore you guys with a novel, but basically—can I turn a spreadsheet into something resembling actual retail software? Like, a database where I track items, quantities, and prices, plus an invoicing side? Ideally, once I crank out an invoice, it would automatically deduct from my main stock levels so I can see my inventory numbers in real-time without doing manual math all day.

Cheers,

restlessdrifter12 said:So, I was sitting there earlier, staring at my screen, just grinding through some data entry—you know how it is when you're deep in the weeds with a massive spreadsheet. I decided to go old school. Instead of letting the software do all the heavy lifting, I started manually typing out the formulas myself. Just me, the keyboard, and a whole lot of patience. And honestly? It’s infuriating. There’s something about that manual process that just sets my nerves on edge. You think you’ve got it perfect, you hit Enter, and suddenly everything breaks because of one tiny, microscopic typo. It feels like a complete waste of mental energy, yet here I am, doing it anyway, probably because I don't fully trust the automation to catch the nuance I'm looking for. It’s a bit like trying to fix a car engine with a toothpick when you have a full toolkit sitting right next to you. You know better, but you do it anyway. It’s maddening. I was staring at my screen for way too long this morning—probably shouldn't have had that third cup of coffee before starting the audit—and I found myself staring blankly at a massive spreadsheet. You know those days where even the simplest task feels like you're trying to solve a Rubik's Cube in the dark? Anyway, I was looking at this specific range, just trying to get the total for everything from row 4 down to row 88. It’s one of those basic things, really. Just `=SUM(E4:E88)`. Simple enough, right? But then I started thinking about how much time we waste on manual entry when these formulas exist. My old boss back in Chicago used to drive me absolutely insane because he wouldn't trust the software, insisted on doing everything by hand. Absolute madness. But yeah, that's the formula. Just a straightforward sum. Nothing fancy. The results are finally coming in. 0:00

Look, if you’re absolutely hell-bent on making sure that specific cell—E89, for those following along—actually pulls the calculation you're looking for, then fine. If that’s how you want to play it, just go ahead and plug this formula directly into E89:

So, you take this formula: =IF(E4:E88="", "", SUM(E4:E88)). But here’s the thing—it won't just work if you lazily hit Enter like most people do. You have to be precise. You need to hit Ctrl + Shift + enter. If you don't, the whole thing falls apart. Once you actually do it right, the formula transforms into something that looks like this:
I was staring at my screen this morning, nursing a lukewarm cup of coffee and trying to make sense of this mess, when I realized how much time we waste on manual data entry. It’s maddening. Truly. You spend hours clicking through cells only to realize the math is off because of one stray typo. I’ve been tinkering with this little formula lately: {=IF(E4:E88="";"";SUM(E4:E88))}. It’s a simple enough logic—essentially telling Google Sheets to look at a specific range and, if there's nothing there, just leave it blank instead of cluttering the view with zeros or errors. If there *is* data, then go ahead and give me that sum. It keeps things clean. It keeps things tidy. And honestly, in a world where everything feels like it's falling apart, I'll take a little bit of organized digital space whenever I can get it. Why does anyone still do this manually? I saw a guy at the office yesterday—total dinosaur—trying to add up an entire column using a handheld calculator. A calculator! I almost lost my mind right then and there. We have tools for this. We actually have them. Use the logic, save the headache. It's not rocket science, though sometimes it feels like it when you're dealing with poorly structured spreadsheets.

Walter Jackson48 said:If you really need it to include the value in cell E89 for some reason—though I'm not quite sure why—you can just type this formula directly into E89:

=IF(E4😈88="";"";SUM(E4😈88)), and once you've typed it out, make sure to hit Ctrl + Shift + enter to activate it. You should end up with a formula that looks like this:
{=IF(E4😈88="";"";SUM(E4😈88))}.

I tried all of that, but honestly, nothing changed—the result is still coming up as zero. I find it hard to believe that something should be this complicated!
Is there actually a way in Excel to convert every one of those figures into seconds?
Basically, I want something like 03:20 to show up as 200 sec, so then adding everything up becomes a breeze.

Something is off with the cell formatting.
Try opening a fresh worksheet and entering the data manually. Use that E89 formula if you get an autosum result of 0:00.
If it still shows 0:00, just open a completely new workbook.

Like, if I have 03:20, I want it to show up as 200 sec so I can just sum everything up without losing my mind.

Look, if you’ve got 03:20 sitting in cell A1, just pop this formula into B1 and see what happens: =CONVERT(A1;"mn";"sec")*24

Here's the breakdown:
"yr" is year; "day" is day; "hr" is hour; "mn" is minute; and "sec" is second.

1. Look, if you want this formula to actually function, you need to have the right converter enabled in your Add-ins. Here’s what you do: go to Tools, then Add-ins, find the Analysis ToolPak, check that box, and hit OK.

2. Honestly, just try running those time calculations on a fresh Sheet like people have been telling you to do. Once you've done that, make sure you format your cells as h:mm, and for the cell holding your final result, use the [h]:mm format. It works perfectly fine on my machine. Seriously... good luck with that mess!

Hey there, I could use a little hand here.
So, I started building out my spreadsheets based on these directions, and I'm just wondering—am I supposed to drop these links into every single cell down the column?

For example, if B2 is =COUNTIF(Results!$A:$A;A2)+COUNTIF(Results!$B:$B;A2), do I need to paste that into B3, B4, B5, and so on?
Basically, am I just filling the whole vertical column with these individual formulas?

Quick question..

Here's the deal:
In cell C1, I have a word.. DOORS
In cell A1, I've put this formula.. =C1

I click on cell A1..
Then I go up to the formula bar.. double-click the formula.. =C1
Hit the F4 key
Now the formula bar shows this.. =$C$1
But here's the catch.. cell A1 doesn't show "DOORS" anymore... it just shows the formula itself.. =$C$1

How do I fix this?

I tried changing the cell formatting.. no luck..
I even tried copying an empty cell over the same spot.. same exact problem..
Could there be something going on with the cells next to it?
