Just highlight the entire row (or those specific cells from A3 to D3), head over to the VIEW tab, click on freeze panes, and grab the first option in the list. You can actually undo it right there too—it’s basically just a toggle switch.

I just finished building a soccer league tracker in Excel, complete with all the matchups, scores, and a standings table. Now I'm wondering—is there a way to make the standings automatically re-sort itself whenever a team grabs a win or pulls off a draw? I'm hoping I made sense there!

You made my day... if you don't even know how to freeze a row in Excel.
Lately, you've been dropping question after question just to be difficult. Honestly, you're just harassing people here.

Since you're being so incredibly rude—let's be real, basic manners seem like science fiction to you—I had to get on your level. People like you only understand one language, right?

You're going on the blacklist, buddy. Forever.

Help me out here, please! I’ve got about 25 tables I need to put together for a college project, but they're all just saved as images right now. Is there any software out there that can actually convert them into Microsoft Excel files?

I’ve got about 25 different tables that I need to get done for college—it's quite the mountain to climb—and they're all just sitting there as images on my screen. Does anyone know if there’s a specific program out there that can actually convert those pictures directly into Microsoft Excel or something similar? Any advice would be a lifesaver!

Now, I simply must ask—has anyone else ever found themselves staring at a scanned document, wondering if they’ve lost their mind, or if the software is just playing tricks on them? It’s one of those little digital hurdles that can truly derail an entire afternoon! I was recently wrestling with some rather stubborn files—you know how it is when the formatting just refuses to cooperate—and I found myself reaching for Adobe Acrobat to see if it could make sense of the chaos. Sometimes, you think you have the perfect tool for the job, don't you? But then, suddenly, you're deep in a rabbit hole of settings and OCR adjustments, questioning everything! Has anyone else had a similar experience lately? I’d love to hear your thoughts! It is an absolutely fantastic OCR tool—truly top-tier stuff! You can take any image or a scanned document and effortlessly convert it straight into a Word file or a PDF... it’s quite seamless, really. But as for finding a specific program that can take that same data and port it directly into Microsoft Excel? Well, now that is a question! I honestly don't know if there's one that does it quite that smoothly—do you think such a thing even exists?

I could really use some help here—how do I set up a spreadsheet so it just automatically reorders itself the second I punch in a number?

Hey there
I'm working on a term paper and my table of contents is acting completely possessed. Any chance someone can help me fix this? Thanks!

Try taking this route: Go to Insert, then Reference, find Index and Tables, click Table of Contents, then hit Modify. From there, jump into the Style tab, select Modify again, and look under Format for Numbering. Once you get to Numbered, pick your style, then use Customize to really play around with how the numbers and text align.
Best of luck with that, and honestly, best of luck with everything else you tackle in 2012.

The issue is you haven't separated your headings from your body text, or they're both using the exact same style.
Go to page 12.
Put your cursor right after the heading and hit Enter. Highlight the next paragraph and set the Style to Normal, then Refresh TOC.
On page 14, just highlight the messy paragraph and Modify its style.

Man, what can I even say?
Just drop the file here for download so we can figure out what's broken (assuming it's not top secret), otherwise just keep tinkering

How do I create an empty pie chart in Microsoft Excel with 32 equal slices, where each slice is divided into concentric rings from the center out? I want it to look like a perfect spider web, but mathematically precise. Ideally, I’d like to be able to scale the "pie" up so the diameter increases and adds even more of those cross-sections.
Does anyone have a template like this they could send my way? Or maybe a tip on how to build it?

It can't be empty if you want to split it into 32 slices, so go ahead and fill cells A1 through A32 with the same value—let's say 2.
Next, just insert a pie chart. Once it's there, right-click on the chart itself, head over to select data and highlight the range from A1 down to A32. Boom, there's your first series defined.
In the chart data range box, you should see =Sheet1!$A$1:$A$32
.
Now, you can change those values in A1-A32 whenever you want, but remember: if you want all those little slices to look identical, the numbers have to be the same.
And hey, feel free to stretch the chart out as big as you need.

p.s. You can actually use the chart to cover up column A, or just hide the column entirely.

Is there some easy way in Microsoft Word 2007 to build a table of figures ?

I didn't bother with it while I was writing my paper, and now I've got about a hundred images that need to be listed in a table.. 🤦

If I try using insert caption for every single image, I run into an issue because of the character limit.. basically, I can't even label most of them properly.. 🤷

Anyone got any ideas?

🙂

I just saved my presentation in Microsoft Office 2010, so I'm wondering if it'll actually open at school since their computers are running Microsoft Office 2007?

Maybe just to be safe, you should also save it as a 97-2003 PPS file or something? I'm pretty sure Microsoft Office 2010 supports that, just like it does with the 2007 version.

That helped... but now I'm running into another little issue.

Connecting figure numbers to chapters is such a massive headache. I'm just going to do it the old-fashioned way—manual entry. It'll get the job done.

Hey everyone,

I have a quick question.
Does anyone know how I might set up a Conditional Formatting rule to flag when a specific date has expired?
So, if I have a cell where I've entered January 1, 2009, and I want it to trigger—meaning, turn the cell red—once three years have passed since that date.
Basically, once we hit January 1, 2012, I'd want that cell to turn red automatically.🙂

Thanks,

Give this a shot:

So, let's say you type a deadline—like 1/1/2012—into cell D2. Highlight that cell, head over to Conditional Formatting, and select "Use a formula to determine which cells to format." In that little empty box they give you, just type in =TODAY()=D2. Then, hit "Format," pick whatever color you feel like using to grab your attention, and click OK.
Basically, this formula is telling the computer: "Hey, the moment today's date matches that deadline in D2, turn the cell red" (well, depending on exactly what range you told it to highlight). It's a simple way to make sure you don't miss something important while you're distracted.

If you want to get a bit more fancy with it, you can toss this formula into cell C2: =IF(OR(D2="";D2-TODAY()>0);"";"Deadline passed "&" "&(ABS(D2-TODAY()))&" days ago")
