You really ought to just turn off the "Check spelling as you type" option within the spelling and grammar settings.

thanks
it seems to be working fine...
I just made a few little tweaks to the setup... basically, I have dates entered into the cells, and when they hit their "expiration date" three years later, I want the cell to change color.
So, next to the cell containing the initial date, I added a calculation that adds those three years—essentially adding 1096 days.

All in all, it’s doing the job.... thanks 🙂
And besides, it's Friday, which always makes things feel a bit easier 🙂

Walter Jackson48 said:Give this a shot:

In a cell like D2, you'd enter the deadline (say, 1/1/2012), then select it, go to Conditional Formatting, choose "Use a formula to determine which cells to format," and in the input box, type =TODAY()=D2. Then, under Format, pick whatever color you prefer and click OK.
What this formula essentially does is tell the software that once today's date matches the deadline in D2, the cell (or whichever range you selected) will turn red.

If you're interested, you could also drop this formula into C2: =IF(OR(D2="";D2-TODAY()>0);"";"Deadline passed "&" "&(ABS(D2-TODAY()))&" days ago")

Might sound stupid, but whatever. I just got my hands on Windows 7, currently stuck on Windows XP. Question is, can I move my Office from xpa over to 7? Reinstalling isn't an option because I don't have the discs anymore. And honestly, I'm not trying to deal with any shady pirate sites for Office.

My big question is, can I actually move my Microsoft Office over from XP to Windows 7? Reinstalling isn't really an option since I don't have any of the original discs anymore. And honestly, I'm not really looking to go down the shady route with some bootleg version of Office.

So, did you get Windows 7 on a different computer, or are you planning to install Windows 7 on your old machine that currently has XP?
Basically, if it's the second one, then if you manage to pull off an upgrade from XP to Seven, your Microsoft Office should stay right where it is. That's pretty much it!

The installer is telling me I need a clean install. So yeah, forget about an upgrade. Nothing for me there.

Hmm, I guess you might have missed the mark there!
Maybe wait for someone else to chime in just to be sure!

Do you have an original version of Microsoft Office? Are you just missing the disc, or are you without a product key entirely? 😕
If you actually have a key, you can just find the right version online to download and then install it using your key.

Otherwise, if you're looking at Microsoft Office 2010 for home use on up to three computers, it'll run you about $200.

So, I just got stuck with this massive document where I’ve gotta fix up all the math formulas. It’s not even about changing the actual math or fixing errors; it’s just that the formulas are currently sitting there as images, and I need to convert them into actual equations so the fonts and symbols actually look right. I spent way too much time manually rebuilding about six pages before I finally lost my mind—if I keep going at this pace, I'll be stuck here for a month.

Since the formulas are identical to what's already there—meaning I'm not actually changing any values—is there any way to just select all the formulas in the doc and batch-convert them into the equation editor? That way they’d actually get that proper look. I tried doing it myself, but the font stays exactly the same; it doesn't get those clean, professional-looking characters you get when you go through Insert --> Equation.

I know I'm being a total idiot with how I'm explaining this... honestly, I don't know any other way to put it. 🙄

Hey everyone, first time jumping into this forum, but I figured I’d reach out because I’ve hit a bit of a wall here.
I’ve been running Microsoft Office 2010, and honestly, Word was working perfectly fine until a couple of days ago. Everything was smooth sailing, but clearly, I went and messed something up in the settings because now the whole thing is acting completely possessed whenever I try to type a document.
It’s driving me nuts—every single time I hit the spacebar, instead of just giving me a space, it spits out some random letter like a 'p' or an 'm,' and then it starts scrambling the order of the letters in the words I just typed. It's total chaos.
I’m pretty sure I’m the idiot who tripped over some setting myself, but I have absolutely no clue which specific option I toggled on, and I'm lost on how to actually switch it back off.🙂
Oh, and just for context, I'm running this on Windows 7.
Thanks 😁

Look, if the formulas are identical (that’s how I’m reading this: they are the exact same thing), then just build one single formula and copy it over wherever you need it. It shouldn't be that complicated.

p.s.: Honestly, the reason nobody is getting back to you is probably because of that TITLE you picked.

Oh, and I'm running Windows 7.
Thanks! 😁

Try this:
Review -> Language -> Language Settings -> Proofing -> AutoCorrect Options -> AutoCorrect – uncheck "Replace text as you type."

Also check these:
1. Spelling and Grammar check -> turn it off
2. Auto Detect Language -> turn it on

So, it’s my first day on the job and I'm already hitting some walls:

I've got this spreadsheet where I need to figure out someone's gender based on their title—like Mrs. or Ms.—how do I tackle that? I'm looking at about 2,000 entries here.

Also, how can I bulk-delete the "US-" prefix from all the addresses in my table?

I bet their Resume says something like "proficient in Microsoft Office" ☕

First problem->here's a direct fix, no macros or scripts needed, just pure brute force:

1. Add a single column for "Gender" where every row will show either "Male" or "Female"

2. In the first row, pop in this formula: =IF(LEFT(A1,4)="mrs.","Female","Male")
(just swap out that A1 in the formula for whatever cell actually holds the data)

3. Drag that formula all the way down the column

This assumes your data is clean—meaning everyone is labeled consistently as "mr." or "mrs.". If one lady is listed as "madam," you'll need to tweak the formula or clean up the data first...

Pro tip:
If you aren't sure what you're doing, make a backup copy of the file first and just play around with that...

Edit:
That syntax was from OpenOffice, so I might have used a comma instead of a semicolon...

Could use a little help here.
I'm trying to pull a text file like this into Excel.

The data in the text file is delimited by a pipe symbol "|".
I need each piece of data to land in its own cell... and, obviously, one line in the text file should equal one row in Excel.

For example:
This

A|B|label1|

so it looks like the image.

I tried importing it, but everything just ends up crammed into a single cell.
Is there a way to tweak the settings in Excel? Maybe under Data > Get External Data > Import Data... to make it work the way I want?

The first problem—just go for the direct solution, no macros or scripts needed, just straight raw power:

Just add a "Gender" column—keep it simple—so every row shows either "Male" or "Female."

Just pop this formula into the first cell: =IF(LEFT(A1,4)="Mr","Male","Female")
Just swap out that cell A1 in the formula—use the actual cell address where the data lives instead!

How to drag a formula down an entire column?

The fix only works if the data is totally unified—like, everyone needs to be labeled consistently as "Mr." or "Ms." If you have one lady listed as "Mrs." and someone else as just "Ms.", the formula is going to trip up—so you’ve gotta either tweak the logic or normalize the whole dataset first...

Any recommendations?
Look, if you're totally lost—just make a backup copy of the file and mess around with that instead!

Edit:
The syntax is from OpenOffice—I'm honestly not sure if I should be using a comma or a semicolon...

Thanks a ton—it’s just not showing up on my Resume. 🙂

So, one of the guys responsible for all the data entry from Excel just called out sick—and apparently, that's somehow my problem now? I'm strictly on web design duty... what even is this??

🙂

Is there a way to configure this in Microsoft Excel? Specifically under Data > Get External Data > Import Data... to make sure it lands where it should?

Problem solved... just set the delimiter to the "|" symbol.

The goal here is to convert a massive amount of text-based equations into proper mathematical notation. The catch? I’m stuck using specific fonts—either Arial or Times New Roman.
Now, the Equation Editor in Microsoft Word 2007/2010 does a decent job recognizing selected text and turning it into a formula, but the output is garbage because it forces you into a single font: Cambria Math. 🙂
MathType (and Equation Editor 3) handles font variety beautifully, but there's a catch: you have to manually input every single equation from scratch. 🙂
Is anyone more experienced with these tools who can point out where I'm tripping up? Or is there a superior formula editor out there that actually offers both automation and font flexibility? Thanks.
