Open Word > start a blank doc > type your name > hit the Home key > hit Tab (notice the indent) > check the image; the arrow should make it pretty obvious.

Thanks for that, but can you also tell me if there's a way to switch the tab stops from inches to centimeters and how to actually do it?

Has anyone successfully downloaded Excel from the web? Any specific sites you'd recommend? 🙂 thanks in advance
You might just lose your mind here too once you actually read the forum rules. Honestly, you're better off just picking up a copy at Best Buy 🙂—at least then you won't have to worry about anything breaking on your computer.

Alright, here's the deal:
I've got this spreadsheet where I've listed out cities along with their zip codes...
For example:
90210 Beverly Hills
10001 New York City, NY 10001
....
Now, I need to split them up—put all those zip codes into one column (column 1) and the city names into the next one (column 2). There are about 2,000 entries total.
What's the easiest way to pull this off?
I tried using the "Text to Columns" feature in Excel, but it's acting up because some cities have multiple names or extra spaces—so it keeps splitting everything into way too many columns.

OneNote formulas in tables
How do I get a table to actually run formulas so the math happens automatically?
Like, if I punch a 2 in cell A and a 3 in cell B, I want cell C to spit out the result—whatever operator I pick, like 6 for multiplication.
I’m trying to build this master template where I just plug in my numbers, cell B stays locked with its own value, and cell C does all the heavy lifting.
I've been digging around for a solution, but honestly, I'm hitting a brick wall here.
Thanks,
Cheers

How do I turn on those "invisible" gridlines in a Word table? The ones that don't show up when you print... I'm using the 2010 version. Thanks!

60601 Chicago, IL

Now I need to split all those numbers and names (there are about 2,000 entries) so the zip code goes into one column (Column 1) and the city name goes right next to it (Column 2).
What's the easiest way to pull this off?
I tried using the Text to Columns tool, but it's giving me trouble because some places have multiple words or spaces, so it keeps splitting them into extra columns.
If your data is sitting in cells A1 through A2000, try this:
- In cell B1, type the formula: =LEFT(A1,5) and drag it down. This will grab those 5-digit zip codes.
- In cell C1, type the formula: =MID(A1,7,100) and drag it down. This pulls out the city names. (The assumption here is that there's just one space after the 5 digits before the name starts. If there isn't, just change that 7 to a 6. As for the "100," that's just the length of the name—it needs to be longer than the longest city name, so 100, 50, or even 40 works fine.)
This should fix almost everything you're looking at.
Once you're done, highlight Columns B and C, then go to Copy -> Paste Special -> Values. (That turns the formulas into actual text so they don't disappear).
By the way, if you want to solve that issue where city names get split into too many columns, you can always look into the CONCATENATE function. There's always more than one way to tackle a problem, which is exactly why I love Excel.

Wait, didn't we already tackle something just like this in that other thread from the previous page?
A little off-topic:
Is that guy who usually handles the Excel stuff actually coming back to work, or is his desk just sitting empty? Is anyone even interested in taking over?

- Just pop this formula into B1: =LEFT(A1,5) and drag it down. That'll pull out those 5-digit zip codes
- Then, put =MID(A1,7,100) in C1 and drag that down too...
Exactly, if he's got both names and numbers crammed into a single cell.
If the numbers are in column A and the names are in column B, then flipping them into rows is a breeze...

Just a quick side note:
Look, I wasn't really paying attention—I mean, I read it, but it totally slipped my mind (was looking at the previous page).
What actually "interests" me more is the Excel Expert who goes on medical leave and leaves behind such a messy pile of data.

Is this supposed to be some kind of brain teaser or what?
Did our resident Expert finally get back from sick leave?

I'm trying to figure out how to calculate a value in a third cell based on two other fields in Excel. Basically, if both A1 and B1 are greater than 80, then the value in C1 should be 0

=IF(AND(A1>100,A1 =IF(AND(A1>200,A1 =IF(AND(A1>300,A1 =IF(AND(A1>400,A1 =IF(AND(A1>500,A1 =IF(AND(A1>600,A1 =IF(AND(A1>700,A1 =IF(AND(A1>800,A1
How can I combine these, or is it even possible? These are the formulas I'm using.
I have an amount flowing into cell A1 (this formula checks the value range), and if that amount falls within one of my specified ranges, I want the midpoint value—the one inside the quotes—to appear in cell C3. Any help? Even just some basic guidance would be appreciated.

Alright, here’s the lowdown on using the IF function in Excel
#1459 ·
Just a little more guidance:
Once you nest everything all together in the formula, that "NOT" function should only show up once at the very end—which I think you already figured out if you've gone through the Ivanov tutorial.🙂
p.s. Is it just me, or is this forum running painfully slow? Everything else on my computer is flying, but this...

I put together my own version based on the LOGIC FUNCTIONS IN Microsoft Excel 2003 - example no. 5 and it’s working exactly how I want with 8 functions included.
The problem is, I can't seem to expand the formula.
Whenever I try to scale it up to 15 functions using the concatenation operator &
things go sideways. For instance, if I input the "highest" amount... instead of just seeing "1500" as the result, the cell where the formula lives ends up merging two different cells... so rather than a clean 1500, I get something like 1500700 or 1400700.
Yeah... this forum is running slow today...
