I'm still wrestling with the software from SS2, though I finally tracked down the right driver. Version 4.4.0 is running flawlessly. Now I just need to hunt down the specific software released alongside those drivers, and then everything should be seamless 😁

As for progDVB, the installation was perfectly straightforward. 👍

Oh, and just one little heads-up: any games you try to play in multiplayer via PunkBuster aren't working right now if you're running them on Windows 7 (at least as far as I can tell, since it's still in beta). It keeps throwing errors at you, saying you've been banned or something about an API function error...

What actually happened? Did you get an error message? On my second attempt—after installing Microsoft Office, Norton, and MSN Live Messenger—I kept getting those "corrupted files" errors on the partition where Windows 7 was sitting.

Couldn't uninstall anything or even run System Restore, so I just wiped the partition.

A week later, I reinstalled Windows just so I could get back to experimenting.

Personally, whenever I pick up a new laptop, I make sure it comes pre-installed with Windows 7 right out of the box...☕

I’ve been running this thing for a few days now and honestly, it's a killer OS. Everything installed just fine except for Nero—tried both version 6 and 7, but neither one would budge. Other than that little hiccup, everything else is running smooth as silk.

Absolutely nothing. Everything just froze solid. I couldn't even perform a normal restart, so I had to force it... once I booted back up, it asked if I wanted to "start Windows normally"... I said yes, it loaded, and then just sat there frozen.
I shut it down, booted into Windows XP, fired up Acronis, and just restored the Windows Vista image back onto that partition.

Nero 8 and 9 actually work just fine. I’m currently running Nero 9 Ultra Edition and it performs flawlessly...😉

After using this for a few days, I gotta say—I don't like this beta at all. Honestly, even if the folks at Microsoft think it’s good, they probably shouldn't even release a public beta.

Windows Vista would be better if it just had decent hardware support [hint: right now, you're screwed without internet]
The taskbar is better, and PowerShell is alright too, but overall, all that talk about how it’s less demanding than Vista? That’s a total lie. It would be great and profitable for users, sure, xD. But Bill definitely wouldn't care about that. So, screw it. I'm done messing around with this until the final version drops.

Based on the benchmarks online, Windows 7 crushes both XP and Vista in everything, even boot time [it's a beta, for God's sake???].
Reminds me of that massive disaster with Internet Explorer 8 beta xD, where it absolutely bombed all the tests. 😁 😁

Somehow, I’ve managed to become the accidental beta tester of the week. I’m getting daily update links shoved into my inbox, and honestly, I’m loving it.

If they keep this pace up, my prediction is that once the final version actually drops, we'll be waiting an eternity before we see any new Windows releases.

Honestly, I can’t help but feel that Windows 7 is still hitting its stride. Think about it—about four or five years after any major OS release, you usually see the developers roll out significant updates or even entirely new versions anyway. It’s just the natural cycle, so there really isn't anything to worry about...😉

As for those complaints about high memory usage... frankly, who cares? If a system is pushing your specs, it's usually just a sign that it might be time to invest in some newer, more powerful hardware. After all, nobody intends to cling to the exact same computer for ten years straight...☕

Try putting it under some actual pressure on Windows XP by running AutoCAD 2009 and CATIA simultaneously, then try doing the exact same thing on Windows 7...

Vista pulls the same amount. So, if your workflow consists of just those two programs, 2 gigs simply isn't going to cut it... ☕

It started throwing minor errors where Explorer would just freeze up, forcing me to kill everything and restart... essentially, it's unstable...🙄
The graphics are decent and the hardware support is solid—everything feels snappy—but this idea that it uses less RAM is nothing but a myth. I'll stick with it for now since I managed to get everything installed successfully, and I'll just keep grabbing updates daily in the hope that they iron out the kinks...

I barely managed to get my Skystar 2 functional; the DISEQC motor control only responds at 18V, and at 13V, the motor won't budge. On top of that, ProgDVB throws ten errors before it finally decides to launch properly. But whatever, it runs...😛
I can only hope things improve. We'll see how it goes. Initially, I was satisfied because I wasn't hitting any walls, but now a string of issues has cropped up, so I'll just have to wait and see...

You’re comparing programs running on two different systems, so of course those applications are going to consume the same amount of memory. The actual point here is how much resources the OS itself demands right out of the gate. In that regard, Windows 7 uses significantly less than Vista. Honestly, I don't see why everyone is making such a huge deal out of this; having 4 GB of RAM is perfectly adequate these days. ☕
We heard this exact same nonsense when XP launched. Back then, people were used to Windows 98 running fine on 32 MB, so there was a massive outcry when you suddenly needed at least 256 MB just to get XP up and running. ☕

You clearly missed my point. When I ran both Vista and Windows 7 with the exact same two applications open, Vista was sitting at precisely 2.22 GB of RAM usage, just like it is now with Windows 7.

So, if my math is correct, Vista and Windows 7 are pulling the same amount of memory from the system...

Furthermore, I should point out that having 4 gigs isn't some magic number that stays relevant forever. For instance, just a year ago, having 2 gigs felt like a luxury, but today... it's practically nothing.

I bumped my Vista up to the beta this week, and honestly, everything is running just fine. This OS absolutely kicks Vista's ass—it’s a massive step up. I’m loving the whole experience; the speed boost is actually noticeable, and I’m genuinely looking forward to when the final version finally drops.

Is there any chance I can get my old drivers from Windows XP to actually work on Windows 7 ??? My rig is pretty much a dinosaur, but I’ve been itching to give this OS a shot and I'm wondering if it'll even hold up on this hardware
